CHILDREN OF EARTH: DAY TWO
Jul. 8th, 2009 08:13 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
- Gwen actually leapt out of the ambulance, two guns blazing. That was AWESOME! And then Ianto ran away from what was obviously the world's worst sniper. I mean, seriously.
- Ianto's family ARE LOVE. I have never witnessed such a subtly written, complex set of characters. This means, of course, that Ianto will die and we will not get to keep them. Obviously.
- Okay, the broken leg thing, again, was a subtle bit of characterisation, especially him and his sister's conversation about it and what it was that happened exactly. If I see people running with it and shouting OMGABUSE, and writing loads of fic where Ianto's childabusetrauma is healed by Jack's magicalhealingcock, I will VOMIT. That's NOT what was said. He pushed him too hard, that's a different thing. I'll have some proper thoughts about this revelation later on, I'm sure, I'm still working through it in my mind.
- FUCK YOU ALL and your negativity, I STILL RLY LIKE LOIS. And I want to keep her. The fact that she's a PA, though, makes me fear we may well be keeping her so she can replace a deaded Ianto. Then again, Ianto's like proper gun-toting Torchwood now, so maybe it'll be okay.
- BTW, if Ianto with that HUGE GUN is a publicity shot ruse I shall be most disappointed. I want to see this big gun.
- What I DON'T want to see, ever again, is Jack naked.
- Gwen and Rhys are adorable and excellent together, and I hope this teamwork a la Meat and The Dead Line continues. Contrary to popular opinion, I don't think Gwen's baby is a goner, either. I think it'll be just fine. And Rhys' never ending quest for food is making me lol.
- You know how I think Ianto's a HARDASS, and I once postulated my various reasons why if Ianto and Jack played Dom/sub games, Jack would totally be the hyperenthused "YEAH! BRING IT ON!" sub and Ianto would be the restrained and meticulous Dom? You remember how often I've said that? Yeah? So Ianto goes and rescues Jack by formulating a carefully thought-through plan that involves parking his car in a quarry (We're in a quarry!!), presumably making his way back on foot, procuring a JCB, taking out a wall and dropping concrete!Jack into said quarry to free him from his concrete prison. All in all very nice, yes. BUT... BUT BUT BUT, before doing so Ianto makes sure that he's wearing a hard hat and a high visibility builder's jacket, because even in the heat and passion of the moment of heroically saving one's lover from concretey doom SAFETY IS STLL PARAMOUNT, YO. THIS, DUDES. This. Thisthisthis. I have no words about how much I loved this bit of characterisation. No words.
- I wish I wasn't spoiled for what the 456 looks like. Boo.
- Yet again, as with the Dead Line, I'm not quite sure how much of my love for this episode (WHICH IS MASSIVE) is based around the fact that Jack wasn't in it much. It saddens me to realise that I like Torchwood more when there's FAR LESS Jack.

Date: 2009-07-08 09:43 am (UTC)After Ep. 1, I was about 99% sure that either Rhys or UnbornBaby would die by ep.5. I am less sure now.
I liked "he pushed me too hard. He always did." Because now Ianto pushes HIMSELF too hard, doesn't he, really? With the three-piece suits and the KNOWING EVERYTHING and the meticulous!Dom!Ianto...*nods meaningfully, not quite sure what she's on about*
Yeah I am beginning to realise how much more I tend to like Jack-free-episodes. Encase him in concrete, again, and let's have the Ianto-Gwen-and-Rhys-show, please.
...you know how Jack rebuilt himself from "an arm, a leg, and half a head"? Well...if you have a whole person, and you take away an arm, a leg and half a head, you're left with a torso, an arm, a leg and half a head. If he can rebuild from an arm, a leg and half a head...are you seeing where I'm going with this? I will scream if there is another Jack wandering around now. I will scream if there is not. We do not need two Jacks. I also don't want them contradicting themselves in the space of a single week.

Date: 2009-07-08 09:48 am (UTC)I mentioned this elsewhere, I think the head/brain part was possibly the most important? I've kind of decided to handwave the skience of Jack's regrowing abilities, though my other half maintains that the cock and various other bits are now roaming around Cardiff looking for action.

Date: 2009-07-08 10:02 am (UTC)I love Ianto's family, because they're so like mine and the estate is like one I grew up on, it's so nice for them not to be alcoholic junkies (god, does that make me sound bitter, it's not meant to, it's the usual TV stereotype). I just love them.
I'd like for the 3 of them (plus Rhys) to work together throughout the next episode, because I'd like to see if it could work for S4 or if they need new members, was it right to lose Tosh and Owen, those sorts of questions, but I doubt that will happen.

Date: 2009-07-08 03:14 pm (UTC)ITA about Ianto's family. Ianto really should've given his big sis a hug. Awww...but at least he said thanks...eventually. ;)
Ianto himself was awesome. His amazing super-power of invisibility was really in top form. That can only explain why the sniper was such a crap shot! I mean really...

Date: 2009-07-08 02:00 pm (UTC)I fucking LOVED how Badass Ianto was in the JCB! Also, mirroring of Countrycide with that, anyone?
OMG so fucking badass.
Also, I bloody love being totally unspoiled!

Date: 2009-07-08 02:46 pm (UTC)Is there anything about this season that I don't love?
But one question remains: we've seen Naked!Owen, Naked!Rhys, and Naked!Jack. One name is glaringly absent from this list. It needs to be seen, in bed, with Jack, in action.

Date: 2009-07-08 05:44 pm (UTC)When I saw it in trailer, I wasn't impressed. It was like a bed John-Wu-Rip-off. But when it was put into context, her action actually made perfect sense (timing might be a bit off... might be).
"And then Ianto ran away from what was obviously the world's worst sniper."
Especially Gareth wasn't running that fast... actually I can do w/o seeing that running...
"If I see people running with it and shouting OMGABUSE, and writing loads of fic where Ianto's childabusetrauma is healed by Jack's magicalhealingcock, I will VOMIT. "
You are the second person I saw expecting people do shitty things like that. Just the thought of it makes me want to vomit. But I can totally believe some people will write that...uhr...
"FUCK YOU ALL and your negativity, I STILL RLY LIKE LOIS. And I want to keep her. The fact that she's a PA, though, makes me fear we may well be keeping her so she can replace a deaded Ianto. Then again, Ianto's like proper gun-toting Torchwood now, so maybe it'll be okay. "
My thoughts exactly, except the first part. I know she's spunky, fun, cute and competent and not... but I like my women mature, slutty!sexy, trigger happy and insane, thank you very much. On the other hand, she might be the one end up dead. I like her, I do, really... she irritate me much less after yesterday. However, if one PA must go, I will push her off the cliff myself, even though I do like her, honest to god, I do...
"What I DON'T want to see, ever again, is Jack naked."
Actually when I rewatch that ep, it was not too bad, but the fist time I saw it, I wanted to cry... JB in his 20s was looked very good naked on stage... but after 20yrs, they really should think again before strip him naked. BTW, did you see a cock? I don't think I saw a cock, just a huge black shadow, which looked like hair... which totally debunk the past speculation that Jack's lack of body hair... since the half nudity scene in Small World.
"Yet again, as with the Dead Line, I'm not quite sure how much of my love for this episode (WHICH IS MASSIVE) is based around the fact that Jack wasn't in it much. It saddens me to realise that I like Torchwood more when there's FAR LESS Jack."
I originally thought I favored this one over Day One was due to Gwen is finally come to her own. Then I realized, the reason she appeared incompetent in the past was actually greatly caused by Jack's presence. No Jack = Gwen being cool. A very sad notion, b/c I'm not sure I will actually pick proper gay couple over proper action girl.

Date: 2009-07-09 10:22 pm (UTC)2. Oh I truly adore Ianto's family. They remind me of all the families I knew growing up in neighborhood I grew up in. Yeah, they're ghetto, but they understand the meaning of fucking BEING there and helping each other out.
3. Lois is growing on me. The first episode was too Mary Sue for me, but she's really rounding out as a believable character in the following eps.
4. Team Wales FTFW.
5. Yeah, less Jack equals better dynamic, and that makes me sad.
