Wow, what a busy busy day at my eljay it's been. I'm in a right bitchy mood today, so may I just say that if you feel the need to bitch about me, don't do it your flocked journal, that's just silly, do it HERE! I want to share in the hate.

Some bitchworthy opinions I have:
1) I think John Barrowman is obnoxious. I don't hate the guy, I don't really actually have an opinion on him one way or the other, but if I had to veer in a certain direction, obnoxious would be that direction.
2) Gareth David-Lloyd, in season two of Torchwood, was a chubster. Chinless, beergutty tubbyboy. He's looking better now and even in season two of Torchwood I'd have fucked him silly, but yeah, he was a fatty.
3) Freema's a shit actress. I got defriended over that one. Any other takers?

GO ON, YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

This post was brought to you by my fucked up hormones and my SCREAMING CHILDREN.

1) He can be. That's part of why he's so funny to watch in con vids. If you're going to do fan service, why go half-way?

2) Yup. My favorite Hub Con quote is still Gareth saying: "Little pickers wear big knickers." I think he is well aware of his changing status (and what to do about it, if he so chooses).

3) Meh. DW and TW don't seem to lean too hard on stellar acting skills. (With notable exceptions, like GDL and CE, imo.)

Maybe this will cause some wank: I don't think GDL is such a good actor. His delivery of his one liners often fall short. He often doesn't really nail Ianto's deadpan humor.

I don't think Ianto would be so popular if GDL wasn't so attractive

only then did I really kind of notice that GDL was sort of hot.

It took me the longest time to realize GDL's hotness too, somehow. Now I of course think he's a total babe, but I distinctly remember that when we first saw Ianto in the first episode I immediately thought, "ack, him? It's too bad he's not very attractive." And of course he spent most of Cyberwoman making entirely unattractive weepy faces so that didn't help his case. I don't even know when I started to pick up on his hotness, but now I'm convinced that my heterosexuality must just have been on lunch break every time Ianto was onscreen the first few episodes. Strangeness.

I think his hotness is directly related to the quirkiness of his character (and a good deal of that quirkiness is thanks to GDL's sly talent). That's why so many fans zoomed in on him after Cyberwoman (as unattractive as he looked sobbing constantly). Plus, that episode gave him so many interesting parallels with Jack; hello, Janto! And that's part of the character's appeal as well: he's perfect boyfriend material.

Virtually every producer and writer on Torchwood will disagree with you there. Generally, Gareth is quite good at delivering one-liners but I do think the writers give him too many sometimes, Sleeper immidiately springing to mind.

What's great about Gareth and Burn Gorman as actors - rather than JB and perhaps Eve and Naoko - is that they are genuienly playing fictional characters rather than themselves. Burn delibrately over-plays Owen and Gareth delibrately under-plays Ianto. Even Burn has said that Gareth is nothing like his character.

I kind of agree about too many- I love Ianto's oneliners, but I think it's come to the point sometimes where it's all the character has, and that not only takes away the element of surprise!funny, but also the element of, well, character. Like in Lost Souls, must as I ROTFL'd dutifully over the bell line along with the rest of fandom, he pretty much only had gags. I just wouldn't like to see him relegated to purely comic relief.

Still too me he some times comes of rather stiff and not getting the humor that Ianto is supposed to have.
A lot can be the bad writing itself I guess, because some episodes he is in charge and strong and others he's like a shy girl

Yeah, but then when has Torchwood ever been known for it's continuity. Depending on who is writing which episode you can have Ianto/Jack (KKBB), Jack/Gwen (Something Borrowed) or neither (From Out of the Rain).

I think Ianto - and to a certain extent Tosh - suffer at the hands of Jack, Gwen and Owen needing to be front and centre of stories most of the time. It must be difficult for Gareth to really get into Ianto's head when he's given 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there. Gareth's done well to make Ianto popular considering he gets a fraction of the attention that Jack and Gwen get. S3 should finally give us the end product when it comes to Gareth and Ianto.

Since the writers have created a female lead who strongly divides opinion - Gwen Cooper - the writers clearly do sometimes get it wrong. :) It certainly isn't Eve Myles's fault that Gwen divides fandom.

Yes - I'm also hoping that he'll go from being 'the quirky guy with the zingers' to a character of some depth on the show in S3.

I think fans assume a lot of that depth based on the quirkiness, and there's plenty of meaty meta within fandom on why he must be brilliant (that makes sense if you're of a mind to look at it that way), but it's all so sketchy overall. I want to see something deeper spelled out on the screen.
