Can't quite work out if that was rly shit or quite good.
Quick points:
I'll try and make more sense tomorrow or something.
SPACEPIG!!!
Quick points:
- Grey's years of torture apparently involved being upholstered until he resembled a sleeping bag, yes? I totally see the family resemblance in the NONSHINY ACTING, though.
- SPACEPIG. And the Hoix. Red bucket, blue bucket hoix, lol.
- Umm... there were explosions? Rhys and Andy were kind of cool?
- Jack doesn't ever change, really, even after 2000 years. Are he and Ianto still an item now, or has he spent too much time underground? I love it when this show gives me NO CLUE.
- I maybe cried a bit? But I knew what was going to happen, so. Gah. maybe next time I'll stay unspoiled, maybe that would be better.
- AS YOU CAN TELL, I AM DRUNK. I NEED ALCOHOL TO WATCH THIS BIG GAY SHOW. SUE ME.
- Oh, and 2000 years underground? What's that coat made of, asbestos?
I'll try and make more sense tomorrow or something.
SPACEPIG!!!

Date: 2008-04-04 10:30 pm (UTC)I know a little bit about the ep, though, even having not seen it, and I have to say, 2000 years? Really? That seems a little... excessive, isn't it? I can only imagine what that would do to the brain and I can't imagine that after all that time Jack would still be... you know, whatever he is, with Ianto now, at least not to the same extent. Of course I haven't seen the ep and don't really know exactly what happens or how he reacts so gaaaah.
I KNEW THAT WHOLE BOSTON TEA PARTY THING WAS A BAD IDEA.
ETA: Also, "I haven't seen the ep" is really code for PLEASE SPOIL ME BEFORE I DIE WAITING. LIGHTLY. SPOIL ME LIGHTLY.

Date: 2008-04-05 02:34 am (UTC)I finally saw it. I didn't find Jack to be overly comforting of Gwen. Gwen sought the comfort. I did notice he tried to make sure Ianto felt it too.
It did bug me that they showed Gwen and Rhys on the couch, but they couldn't show a few seconds for a welcoming hug? It'd been 2,000 years! I know he clearly needed a moment with John. John did save him, after all, but just a moment with Ianto would have been appropriate.
It did strike me though. It felt like, in the end of the show, they kept Ianto back. Separated in a way. I can't decide if that was because Eve and John needed a moment in the sun, or if it was a character decision. I hope it was the latter.
I've gone back to hating Gwen full on again. Will someone please explain to me why any of those police officers would need a pep talk from her? Why they would even listen to someone who had last been seen by them to be a PC? It's not like her talk was that charismatic and wonderful. Eve isn't that kind of actress, and Gwen isn't that kind of character, so why!?! Even the awesome PC Andy showed her up when he made that comment about aliens running amok in Cardiff being all in a days work. So if that's true, why the speech? Ugh. Sorry, rant over.

Date: 2008-04-05 06:32 am (UTC)ianto to john
"if we don't find him i'll kill you -- very slowly."
that pretty much sums it up for me.
oh, and they should have kept tosh & owen and fed gwen to the weevils...
1st time poster, here...
Date: 2008-04-05 07:40 pm (UTC)Honestly, I'm extremely happy to have gotten a very stoic Ianto. IMO, that is what Jack needed from him, not someone who was needy and required coddling (Gwen and to a lesser extent, John were filling that role rather perfectly). Once he saw Jack was alive and well, that was enough for him; he didn't require his attention. Really, it would have come across as super pathetic if the writers had given us an Emo!Ianto in this episode,IMO.
Going by Ianto's body language during the final hub scene, he really did want to be hugged. It was if he was trying to maintain his distance in an effort to retain control over his emotions and just get on with what needed to be done, which included being a rock for Jack. Did you notice how Ianto gave a slight roll of his eyes when Gwen exclaimed she didn't think she could go on? I loved that little eyeroll because I, too, rolled my eyes at her. I wanted to scream Gwen, it's not about you! It's about Jack! He's the one whose world has all but fallen apart...
As for them highlighting Gwen/Jack, well, I expected that. I could see that was coming during the closing shot of "Fragments." It was a shot of Jack with Gwen standing behind him. The shot said to me these are the lead characters of the show, and they would be leading the season finale...

Date: 2008-04-05 10:58 pm (UTC)Yes. This is what I saw too. It feeds into the idea that he's the dominant one in their personal relationship.
And that eyeroll! Yep. Just when I think Ianto - and GDL - can't get more awesome. That had to be the one take scene that didn't have a rehearsal.
Re: 1st time poster, here...
Date: 2008-04-06 12:15 am (UTC)I know :D I feel exactly the same way.
Re: 1st time poster, here...
Date: 2008-04-06 12:21 am (UTC)In Tosh's goodbye video, her I love you to Owen, in style and delivery, very much mimicked Jack's words to Ianto.
Compare:
"I came back for you [Ianto]... all of you [team]"
to
"I love you [Owen]...all of you [team]
I think it’s a pretty good bet that the entire TW fandom will agree that Tosh’s ILY to Owen was of a different and deeper meaning than her ILY to the team.

Date: 2008-04-06 08:50 am (UTC)The thing is, I still see an eyeroll. I went back and watched the entire scene from the start of Toshiko's tape and only watched Ianto's eyes when he was on the screen, and at no time to his eyes get wide at all except in that one moment. I watched several times paying attention to facial expression as well. I even watched it in slo mo.
His eyes went up and to his left for just a fraction of a second. Jack is on his right. And his jaw elongated the same way it has the other times he's rolled his eyes. When Jack starts to speak his eyes stay forward. He's crying, so he's fluttering his eyelashes a bit to keep the tears from his eyes, but he doesn't look in Jack's direction.
I there is one thing Ianto is capable of, it's multi-tasking his emotions. He was sad, but as stated before, pretty stoic. This isn't the first time Ianto has lost someone close to him. It not even the first time he's lost multiple people who were close to him in one go!
The more I think about it, the eyeroll can be interpreted in many ways. Maybe he was thinking "oh great, we just lost two people, and now that's three." It may not mean "shut up you cow, you have no idea what real pain is!" No matter how much I want it to. :)
