MAY I JUST MENTION FRANKLIN AND BASH AGAIN. Malcolm McDowell is cracking me up.

THAT'S NOT WHAT THIS IS ABOUT, THIS IS ABOUT WAREHOUSE 13. Now, I hear that it's kind of like what a Torchwood spinoff show called "Ianto's Archiving Adventures" would be like if it were written by those people who wrote Torchwood before RTD remembered it existed and turned it into po-faced drama. Plus, there are ARTIFACTS in it that sound ALMOST AS HILARIOUS AS THE ONES FROM BONEKICKERS. As you can see, I'm sort of toying with the idea of making it My New Show. Except it's not actually on anywhere over here, but I could always aquire DVDs and such. Apart from that, of course, GDL's in this week's episode, in a suit, but I don't know how much I need to know about Warehouse 13 in order to be able to watch it (this is series 3, yeah?) So... a poll is in order, basically, I'd like to know if I should be watching this show, like, regularly, and not just for GDL's pouty mouth. TELL ME.

[Poll #1767021]

Please to be helping me make my decision.

I've never heard of Warehouse 13, except for in the past week or so with the trailers of GDL, but I think it sounds like a nice birthday treat for you!

You can never mention Franklin and Bash too much, you know. Love that show :D

It's exactly as cracky and fun as you think it will be. And it doesn't have a pterodactyl, but it has lots of steampunk stuff and also H.G. Wells. Who is a woman.

There's some steampunk, but it's not 100%. It's a bit of a blend.

I'm still catching up, almost done with S1. Here's a for instance, though: they break into an embassy using a gigantic firework launched from the parking lot. It dazzles everyone who looks at it for about ten minutes, so the team can go inside and steal the magic sword that allows the person who wields it to become invisible. Yeah, baby!

It's a lovely "Don't think, just enjoy the ride" kind of show. They don't pretend to be gritty reality, and the whole concept of the artifacts and how they work defies known logic.

There's a little angsty backstory for all the main characters, but it never dominates, it just adds enough depth to them to keep them from being cartoons.

Wait, I said nah? I blame getting up at quarter to 5 this morning. They use ray gun-type things and the boss has that steampunk keyboard that's super-awesome and makes me jealous. And it doesn't take itself too seriously, which helps.

I meant to go with option 1.

I've never seen this show either but I've been told that it's very much like early Torchwood, in terms of being about a small group of people who collect strange alien stuff in a slightly chessy not-too-serious way.

Exactly. Except not as dark as early Torchwood. Very cracky. And as lawsontl said, it's definitely a "Don't think, just enjoy the ride" kind of show.

It's interesting that Jane Espenson is also a co-creator (since Torchwood was supposedly a Buffy ripoff).

I mainlined the first two series and the two available online episodes like crack just like I did the first two series of Torchwood back in the days when it had a sense of humor to go with all the angst and pathos. Warehouse 13 is much less angsty, but there is mysterious backstory stuff instead.

I am biased.

(How lucky that GDL's ep is on your birthday!)

Yeah, I'd like to know how that rumor got started--I've certainly never read anything from him saying that was a possibility. As much as I would love GDL in a Victorian/steampunk WH13 spinoff with Sherlock Holmes references, I think people are doing the ol' 2+2=5 deduction. In fact, I'll be pleasantly surprised if he survives the episode (although that wouldn't necessarily affect his appearance in the proposed spinoff, from what I've read about the idea).

Anyway, it's all good. GDL sporting a suit in a good ol' days Torchwood-esque TV show? It's like my birthday came early!

(I voted for #1, but I was tempted to vote for your #2 choice just because of the lovely description! LOL)

Yes, it would be nice if one of his characters did get to live for once. Heck, I say we make this rumor happen! Wouldn't it be great if it got more buzz than the latest chatter about MD?? "Make it so..."

In fact, let me just say I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he needs BG to work on its new album NOW because he's all booked up next year for some mysterious new project he can't mention yet. Yeah... *wink, wink*

No, my power for starting Internet rumors is pretty pathetic. I've been putting it out there for two seasons now that Being Human (UK) should hire him for a guest spot (I mean, it films in his frickin' backyard and plays on Torchwood's former stomping grounds in the USA--how perfect [for me] would that be?!?)...so instead they cast Kai Owen in a bit part. (Nothing wrong with that, but still--not GDL.) And now it's supposedly their last season. *sigh* So, hopefully, you'll fare better with fueling the fire...if you should so choose.

I demand that someone come back here on Monday night US time and tell me whether or not he dies so I can nefariously fuel that rumour if I feel I need to.

So far, he's still alive. His segment seems to be over. (And adorable. H.G. calls him "Wooly"; his last name is Wolcott.) It's 1893 and H.G. Wells' daughter has been gone for two years. He seems to be a relatively new agent, but he's learning some tricks from H.G. and they seem to have a nice, friendly relationship.

For what that's all worth.

Oh, DT sighting--Fright Night commercial.

I was a bit worried when they brought back 1893 in the tag and H.G. and Wolcott were casually walking down the street talking about the case and the Warehouse, but nobody popped out of the shadows or anything so he officially survived! Plus, he got top billing over the 1960's team, who were actually featured in an earlier episode (I think they were both the same actors), if that means anything. However, it doesn't seem like that actual time period (after what happened to her daughter) fits in with the spin-off plans, but maybe it could be a recurring thing in Warehouse 13 for the next time they need H.G. to help solve an old case.

I've never seen it, but wherever GDL goes I will follow. Even though that means I followed him to "Red Faction", which I'm still trying to spit out.

I don't know; my eyes still haven't forgiven me for subjecting them to Sherlock Holmes. At least GDL was much better eye candy in Red Faction: Origins and the camera/production was much more flattering to him IMO. (What, do you think I watch any of this stuff for the plot?! LOL)

But I felt so bad for him! How could he be expected to act when he couldn't breathe! He was busting at the seams! And that cliff climb?!? Oh, the horror of some of those shots! LOL

Anyway, here's a much better fitting outfit for us to appreciate his fine form in...

I fucking loved it. I fucking own it. It's the kind of thing I like to watch when I'm feeling down. Pop in a cheesy horror movie and feel your little serotonins start making sweet love! I've got pretty much everything Vincent Price ever did, for the same medicinal purposes. Fuck yeah!

I was taken in by him looking all gorgeous n shit. It was a terrible part in a terrible production. And I am prepared to say that the only direction he got was "be blander! No, still too much personality. Can you maybe be completely empty? Bland! Bland!"

I decided to give F&B a go after seeing you post about it. While I don't think it's ever going to be a must watch 'my show', it certainly passes the time quite amusingly.

Can't really help you on the Warehouse 13 front, the only ep I've seen was a Christmas ep - and Xmas eps of shows don't tend to be good representations of it. But given that GDL is going to appear in it, I'm definitely going to pick up the new season (hmm, maybe having to stay with my sister and her SkyBox for so long isn't such a bad thing after all!)

but it's the first show in a long while that I can just sit and watch and smile at and feel kind of chirpy for having watched for a day or so after it's on

Hmmm. If it ever airs this side of the water, you should perhaps check out Rizzoli and Isles. The plots can be a bit cheesy and/or predictable, but I love the character interactions and it's good fun.

I watched most of the first season and enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to watch the GDL episode. It does have similarities to TW, but TW was much darker and funnier.

I am late to the party, having not been on LJ for a few weeks, but I sure did think of you when I watched Warehouse 13 the other night. Did you end up watching it? When I found out GDL was going to be on *sometime* (it was all very hush hush) I decided to just dive in and start watching. I agree with everyone who says it's a great cracky, fun, turn-off-your-brain kind of show. Plus it seems to exist in the same universe as Eureka, which I've also been watching. Anyway, GDL's part was pretty small, but yes he does survive and he wears Victorian period attire which is never a bad thing. And while I would certainly watch a spinoff with him and HG Wells, I'm not sure that such a show would fit into the timeline?
