If I were to say that the Buzzcocks Doctor Who special, and Tennant in particular, made me cringe with its unfunniness, that would make me a bitter, whiny bitch, right? I'll shut up, then.

Cribbins was awesome, though.

Cribbins kicked ass. The 'written' stuff they gave Tennant to say was hideous; he even acknowledged at one point that Cribbins' riffing was putting his lines to shame.

And I'd rather have heard him finish the whole 'Right Said Fred' song than sit through that weird-ass 'guess the ex-musician' segment.

I felt so embarassed for Phil and Noel last night. They must have been wondering what the fuck they were doing there...

Noel was lolarious! He kept being out-surrealed by Cribbins and Tate and cracking up. I loved his answer to the "Doctor, doctor, there's a strawberry on my head" thing. "Get out of there, that's ridiculous". Universal punchline for all "Doctor doctor" jokes! :D

It was all a bit rubbish (especially the God-awful Doctor Who gags) but with moments of stress-incontinence-inducing hilarity. I would say "Whatever Catherine was on I want some" except that I suspect it was SHEER PANIC.

Thing is, when Tate and Tennant took over Wossy's Radio 2 slot last year, they were hilarious. They're doing it again this year, and I'll be tuning in.

You can be bitter and whiny if you like, or gleeful, or raging. Emote, darling, emote!

Ooh, when is that, then? They were fabulous last time!

It's like porn, you have too much of it and you go off it. Leave it for six months and it's fresh again.

I suspect Tennant won't be on screen as much, plus we'll all get to squee/disparage* Matt Smith when he graces our screens next year.

Trying again...heh

Nothing happened to you. He's the idiot. He seems totally oblivious to what RTD has done to Who, and he claims to be a fan. The character he's playing is a shallow, woobie husk of his former badass self.

Now, if, and big if here, but if once all his DW episodes air, he decides to be honest about much of his tenure being shit, then he'll be worth loving again.

oooh, porn...

Well, I think anybody is an improvement compared to Wossy, but I heard a little bit of that radio show with Tate and Tennant in April this year and I wasn't overly impressed. I did listen only to the part which had Barrowman coming on, so perhaps I'm not being fair!

In this Buzzcocks episode the only part I liked was when Phil was mimicking a Dalek having sex with the Doctor.

We heard the whole thing (in April) and there's a great back-and-forth between Tennant and Tate - genuine friendship. And they worked well with those that called in to the show for the competitions.

Me and Himindoors are travelling from London to Gloucestershire on Boxing Day, so we'll be tuning in to enjoy the lulz.

I think it depends on whether you enjoy Catherine Tate and David Tennant when they're not being Donna and the Doctor.

So, not worth bothering with then? (Still trying to find a chance to watch Misfits.)

Cribbins and Tate were funny. Tennant was awful only because he was stuck reading material that was forced and trying too damn hard.

Thing is, hosting that requires excellent ad lib skills, it's why Simon Anstell was so good. DT is an actor and it's not really his forte, bad choice. I know you may disagree but JB would have been better, he was hilarious on Buzzcocks, and is very quick witted. OF course Catherine Tate and Bernard Cribbans would be good, it's closer to what they are known for.

Yep I think it's when JB is at his absolute best, it's why he shines on talk shows. I also think that JB isn't disingenuous. The thing with DT is that he is always acting, even when being interviewed. Which is fine, it's his call and God knows that they have the right to not let their real selves show, but that works for an actor, not for comedy and ad lib things, they need to let the barrier down a little bit to be genuinely funny.

Yeah, Buzzcocks really is an improv actor's gig. JB is witty, but he'd run out of replies pretty quickly, or devolve into nothing but dick and fart jokes. You need someone who's had training. Lamarr and Amstell both had it, so did Hughes, Bailey, and Fielding. Jupitus is the music expert, but he's funny in his own right.

I don't think they're looking in the right places for a replacement.

I had no idea this was happening! I need to see this, even if it's awful. Heck, RTD has prepared me for anything.

I saw it. Eh. I think some of blame has to go to the writers. If they'd cut out a bunch of the DW stuff it would have been a good episode. The "ask the Tardis" was the worst.
