Random notes on Girl Number 9 so far. One: 3 minutes 49 seconds is NOT a five-minute episode, James Moran. Once again you're a lying liar who lies. Let's stalk him and call him names, dudes! Or maybe not.

ANYWAY, I had a bit of a problem with this whole endeavour, and subsequently I decided NOT to engross myself in any way in the pre-publicity and twitterings and such. Having not seen the show, I kind of objected to the idea that I might be required to put in pre-emptive effort in order to understand what was going on. It might not be any good, you know? And then I would have wasted my valuable internets time on something that wasn't worth it. Which is why I didn't do it, I wanted to see if it would stand up on its own, which it seems to be doing up to now. (Though I do believe I briefly got the gist that Matheson has kids, so I can see where this might be going, but okay.) So far, it's a thumbs up for me, though it is even shorter than I dreaded, Doctor Horrible's got nothing on this baby.

Gareth's beer belly is kind of mesmerising and wonderfully in-character. I wish I could ascribe it to diligent method acting as opposed to actual beer, but I am more than willing to suspend my disbelief for now. Also, episode one made me realise that I would have probably happily sat through half an hour of GDL swearing at people with that accent, and I'd willingly buy an audiobook of him just saying the word "fuck" over and over. So if anyone's reading, yeah, there's that.

I realise it's supposed to be a thriller, but do they really have to do their policing in a darkened office? You'd think someone would flip the lights on at some point in time. (Oh, and is it too early for me to say that it's all a bit SAW?)

You reckon Moran will dismember a nine-year-old next ep? Come on, he's edgy like that, people. I'm betting yes.

GDL's accent is wonderful, and I'd be #2 in the queue for that audiobook, but the difference between his and everyone else's distracted the heck out of me. I had to shake my head good and concentrate hard. That's not really relevant to anything! GDL was really good in this really short show. All the Ianto hype hadn't seemed to help him much, so I had been wondering about that, but no, he was excellent, and I really hope to seem him in some sort of recurring role on TV before too long.

O...K. I'm worried now. I'm not exactly watching this out of love for thrillers.

Oh, I DO want to see that!

Since we only had 3 minutes last night, maybe James Moran will give us 6 minutes tonight, or maybe not.

I'm loving that I'm loving Gareth in a different role, beer belly and all.

It's not looking good for girl 8, unless there's a twist somewhere.

It's all very Saw. It's all very Seven. And it's way too dark for a work environment! Turn on the frickin' lights already! For something so short, I'm a little bothered at times about the pacing, too--couldn't they have kept the camera on both GDL and the twitcher in their individual moments for longer and stretched the episode out to 4:15 or something?? If you're going to pause for intensity, go for it! Or, you know, for that matter, they could just keep the camera on GDL indefinitely. Do a split screen effect like 24 so we can see him at all times...umm....maybe that'll be in an upcoming episode. What, I'm supposed to be worried about the girl(s)?? Sorry.

I didn't get involved in the intro stuff on Twitter either, since it should be able to stand on its own. I'm assuming that stuff will be out there after the fact, if I want to watch this again.

Mmm.. That's why I listen to the Sin Eaters a lot. Plot's crap, but the voice makes up for it.

Liking it, but not loving it. As others have said, too dark and its really hard to connect with a three minute eposide. (Yep, Girl #8 is toast).

GDL gives a good performance, but I really like the euber-creepy psychopath as he's not over the top. (Though I thought for just a moment that he was going to start talking about chanti and fava beans).

Ah, an actor that specializes in being a wacko!

Think it's pretty good so far actually, though a little on the short side which means it never seems to quite get into gear. But I approve of the darkness, reminds me of Wire In The Blood at times and Joe's facial expressions are wonderfully creepy and in character.

and I'd willingly buy an audiobook of him just saying the word "fuck" over and over.
You and me both heh.

And yes. That girl is going to die horribly, we all know that!

That's why I decided not to watch beyond the first episode. I really don't like torture porn and never had a wish to watch other screenplays of James Moran, like Severance. I hate that genre and not even Gareth and Tracey-Ann would tempt me to continue watching.

A friend of mine got her picture with GDL at a recent con. He was stubbly and unwashed, which made me think of you. You know what I mean.

gdl said in the HW panel that they are hoping it will get to be a regular series after this, so i'm not sure if there will be resolution or not...
i haven't watched any of it yet, b/c the internet at the hotel was shit, so i'm just waiting until friday to watch all of it

If they want it to be a regular series, I would suggest it not be so predictable. Halfway through and they haven't reached any "new" territory yet...

heh! haha, yeah, i don't know how it would work - i've read some good things about it, but yeah, haven't watched it yet - i didn't follow the twitter either

I'm getting as frustrated as when I watched Seven. Just once these types of shows need to have a Randy from Scream character written in to point out the obvious plot twists the bad guy(s) are going to employ.

You do know he's going to be in The Bill in the new year? I can't remember if he's done a Casualty. If he has then his acting career is over. He's hit his nadir too soon.

My sister has just confessed to an appreciation of Captain Jack. I am about to lure her to the dark side of Ianto / GDL. Once she understands the significance of the pressing matter then she'll be much happier.

Oh, and GN9 - i've watched the first one and it got to the end and i was like "oh, is that it then, i was just getting into it there and you ended it" not had a chance to catch up with the rest.

I'm just waiting with moist knickers for Sherlock Holmes and the space-age-dinosaurs-of-DOOM!

Oh no, that's his version of JB's "Shark Attack 3: Megalodon" fiasco.

Doing a Casualty or a The Bill is on every bloody actors CV, though it's better to play someone alive rather than a corpse - looks better in the showreel.

he HAS done casualty, a long time ago, it was one of his 1st tv roles, i think
but EVERYONE has been on the Bill (he's already been on once...)
i mean, even roger daltrey was on the bill!
i hope gdl plays a bad guy!

Problem with long running shows like the Bill and Casualty is that there are only a certain amount of actors in the UK, and not all of them "do telly" so they get to have a go more than once. You're not really going to see Dame Judi pitching up at Sun Hill to claim she's been robbed, are you?

I read he's in a love triangle in the Bill - I hope he plays a right awful sod.

From: [identity profile] kel-reiley.livejournal.com
ooh, love triangle! i was hoping he'd be a serial killer

i haven't watched the bill in about 6 years, so i don't even know who is left - is smiffy still there? inspector gold? phil hunter, the bastard?! is gdl's part just a one-ep or will it play out over a few?

From: [identity profile] caledonius72.livejournal.com
I'm not sure but I think it's a one episode thing. He's playing a civilian. I haven't watched the Bill for a while too but the Asian girl from "This Life" was in it for a while.

Phil Hunter left in 2007, and Scott Maslen (muy dreamy) is in 'Stenders, I think. Inspector Gina Gold left in 2008.

I'll watch the GDL episode(s) - but I'm not a Bill fan.

oh yeah, i'd watch his one episode, but i just won't know who the other ppl are - i will wait until someone uploads just his scenes to youtube

Now you have said it, Dame Judi will so arrive at Sun Hill in a future ep, her bag having been snatched off her in the street. If McKellan can do Corrie, and Derek Jacobi did Dr Who.

You do know Keira Knightly appeared in 'The Bill' several years ago and where exactly did her career go after that - Hollywood. :)

Also why would the police put a serial killer in an unguarded basement room with no one way mirror? Even the Torchwood hub has better facilities.

I did love GDL saying "I'm very fucking flattered" I think that is an essential phrase for work situations.
