We knew this was a retooling of sorts for the show, designed to attract a MASSIVE new and shiny audience, and it has. There are literally MILLIONS of people watching series three, who have NOT seen either series one or two of Torchwood.

And what have these shiny new viewers learned from Children of Earth? Well, see there's these three people in Torchwood, one's like from the future or someting, one's the married pregnant chick and let's just hammer the point home really quite bluntly with neon signs and anvils and such, that one over there? In the suit, see him? IANTO?? IANTO'S THE QUEER ONE.

Have you all got that? Yeah? Good. Right... let's kill the queer one.

Seriously. It's very tasteful, that, Russell. Nicely done.

I still think John would love a TW series 4; however,he did say Day 5 was written in a way that could also be a finale. Well, with the killing off of Ianto I think RTD has underestimated the reaction. I'm thrilled the ratings have been great; especially for July. The writing and acting has been brilliant.

Now, RTD is being very, very Joss Whedon like. Whenever a relationship seems to be going good..he'll destroy it. Why they did this to Ianto I'll never know.

I'm a huge fan of John and Capt Jack..BUT..I'm not interested in the Jack and Gwen show. Lois will probably come to the revamped TW and be the new PA.

A large part of me wants the ratings for the last day to fall completely flat.

As in, virtually EVERY SINGLE PERSON watching goes "wut? No more Ianto? F*ck this." and switches off.

It's not going to happen. This makes me sad.

The ratings part of things might be what hurts me the most. They kill off my love after not really giving him the story he deserves and yet a bazillion people watch the series. It's galling.

The ratings mean they'll do a fourth series. Although I'm not dreading a Jack-and-Gwen show as much as I was (she got so much more awesome this series), I am just not stoked for any Torchwood episode that doesn't have Ianto in it.

I am going to retreat into Fanon, where Ianto is not dead.

I'll never watch another episode. I'm just at a point in my fandom life where I figure I don't need to waste my time if I'm not happy with the story.

I'll watch tonight's. Then (unless Ianto resurrects) I am done.

Yeah, but I want to see this so that I can be properly hacked off.

I feel similar. I think that they've managed to vastly improve the drama and the capability of the team but after the Ianto death I don't really feel like watching. I'm not devastated the character is dead. I'm not crying about it. I'm not calling RTD a prat because of it (He is a prat but for other reasons). I just suddenly feel meh. I've read the episode 5 spoilers. I know what happens so what's the point in watching?

Yes, it would be nice if RTD & co. could feel our wrath by no one tuning in; but, ah, he's a clever one. People will surely tune in just to see how Ianto will be resurrected. Except he won't. That death and the body scene after was pretty definite. "There's nothing we can do..."

Yep, basically. He's dead.

Fine, I hold out for a ratings flop for next series, if there is one.

I disgust myself, but despite the abomination that was those last ten minutes, I cannot stay away for the hour it would take to appear on iPlayer.
Makes me sad too :(

I would love it if the ratings for ep 5 had started out great, and then just plummeted as soon as GDL's name failed to appear in the opening credits. Because seriously, not only does he die, but he doesn't even get to die in the final battle, and he doesn't even make it to the final ep?

Fuck you RTD.
