Okay, so I'm kind of assuming Ianto's dead and Ianto dies in the not-saving-the-world-manner in which I have read and actually nothing much happens between Jack and Ianto on the level of that "relationship development" we were all supposed to be so excited about before Ianto dies, which I'm pretty sure is the case. And even if none of that is the case, this question still stands and really, I'm quite pissed off about it.

WHY, when Ianto makes it pretty clear to Jack that, after all the Jack-rescuing and running-around and looking-after-everyone-and-buying-them-coats-and-coffee and existential-angst-about-what-he-means-to-Jack business, he would really appreciate some alone time with Jack, because he's really kind of acutely feeling like he should make the most of every moment, WHY, at that point in time, can Jack, who is everyone's boss and should be the one taking charge, not just say to Rhys, who knows they're an item and knows what's been happening, "HEY, RHYS, COULD YOU GIVE US 30 MINUTES ALONE? WE KIND OF NEED A MOMENT, IT'S BEEN SORT OF HELLISH."

Why THE FUCK do this pathetic attempt-to-send-Rhys-to-the-shops thing in the first fucking place? I mean, it's bad enough that Jack lets himself get fobbed off by FUCKING BEANS and says "Hey, tough shit, babe, beans!", but why can't he just be fucking truthful in the first place? WHAT SORT OF AN ASSHOLE AM I SUPPOSED TO THINK JACK IS?? Because seriosuly, if this is it and now Ianto dies and this is how far the relationship has progressed, with Ianto desperate to just have Jack tell him, please, are we together-together or are we not, and Jack just fobbing him off and not even making the slightest effort to spend some time alone with Ianto after THE HELL of Days One and Two, seriously, that makes Jack look like the BIGGEST FUCKING FUCKWIT that has ever been the supposed "hero" of a televisual series. FUCK THAT. RIGHT IN THE EAR.

Plot-driven bullshit, is why. So we can have Jack's Enormous Immortal ManPain be more poignant at the end. That's my guess.
