Okay, so I'm kind of assuming Ianto's dead and Ianto dies in the not-saving-the-world-manner in which I have read and actually nothing much happens between Jack and Ianto on the level of that "relationship development" we were all supposed to be so excited about before Ianto dies, which I'm pretty sure is the case. And even if none of that is the case, this question still stands and really, I'm quite pissed off about it.
WHY, when Ianto makes it pretty clear to Jack that, after all the Jack-rescuing and running-around and looking-after-everyone-and-buying-them-coats-and-coffee and existential-angst-about-what-he-means-to-Jack business, he would really appreciate some alone time with Jack, because he's really kind of acutely feeling like he should make the most of every moment, WHY, at that point in time, can Jack, who is everyone's boss and should be the one taking charge, not just say to Rhys, who knows they're an item and knows what's been happening, "HEY, RHYS, COULD YOU GIVE US 30 MINUTES ALONE? WE KIND OF NEED A MOMENT, IT'S BEEN SORT OF HELLISH."
Why THE FUCK do this pathetic attempt-to-send-Rhys-to-the-shops thing in the first fucking place? I mean, it's bad enough that Jack lets himself get fobbed off by FUCKING BEANS and says "Hey, tough shit, babe, beans!", but why can't he just be fucking truthful in the first place? WHAT SORT OF AN ASSHOLE AM I SUPPOSED TO THINK JACK IS?? Because seriosuly, if this is it and now Ianto dies and this is how far the relationship has progressed, with Ianto desperate to just have Jack tell him, please, are we together-together or are we not, and Jack just fobbing him off and not even making the slightest effort to spend some time alone with Ianto after THE HELL of Days One and Two, seriously, that makes Jack look like the BIGGEST FUCKING FUCKWIT that has ever been the supposed "hero" of a televisual series. FUCK THAT. RIGHT IN THE EAR.

Date: 2009-07-09 07:47 pm (UTC)And where's Rhys gonna go, besides? He'd feel like he doesn't belong again. Maybe Jack doesn't want to sacrifice the team for the bit of nookie. And maybe he figures they can squeeze in a bit of time in an hour or two.
Those were my thoughts when I saw it. That and that we were cheated out of seeing the beginnings of a hot scene.

Date: 2009-07-09 08:17 pm (UTC)This isn't high school. There are times where you don't simply belong because it's couple time, not friend time. Unless Rhys is incredibly insecure (he isn't), he's going to understand Ianto wanting some comfort in this dangerous situation. They are in a dangerous situation where the world could be ending in a hour or two, that's why Ianto wanted Jack to at least acknowledge his feelings. Instead, he gets fobbed off with beans.

Date: 2009-07-09 08:14 pm (UTC)It's no wonder Ianto's all uncertain and dancing around their relationship if Jack considers Rhys being able to eat hot-off-the-stove beans more important than taking a short break to comfort the person he supposedly cares about.
HE SAVED YOU FROM BEING SEALED IN A CONCRETE BLOCK. HE FOUND YOU A NEW RAF COAT WHILE BEING ONE OF BRITAIN'S MOST WANTED. YOU CAN AT LEAST TAKE FIVE TO GIVE HIM A HUG.
And then running off without telling Ianto /anything/ about the pictures. What was the point in that? Other than being Dramatic.
If they didn't want to have to spend time on a big moment, there were a lot of scenes where they could have done little things to show closeness. For example, when they were sitting on the sofa in the warehouse, have Jack sit in the middle and have him put his hand on Ianto's knee/thigh while they talk. Not sexually (much), just comforting. Gwen can sit on his other side and he can do the same with her, I don't care, just something that makes it seem less like Jack only cares about Ianto when he's in the mood to.
