I'm not sure. Where is canonically established that Ianto is bisexual? I don't think his, or the others', sexuality has ever been stated. Apart from the Captain's definition as omnisexual, that is.

That's my main complaint, actually, how convenient it is to the writers to turn everything upside down.

If I recall correctly it was Jack who was trying to get into Ianto's pants for most of season 1 and the first eps of the second, while Ianto had all a set of different and questionable reasons to be "interested" in Jack.

I can even accept the fact that, hey things change and NOW he is genuinely in love with Jack. Or whatever.

The picture doesn't bother me in the least in that regard. Honestly, tell me that from Gareth's expression you don't get the feeling that Ianto is asking himself "what the hell have I gotten myself into?

It's in the books, I know that doesn't count, but still. I understand where they're trying to go with this whole Everyone's Sexuality Is Fluid thing, and it's an admirable thing to try to achieve, the idea that it really doesn't matter or should even be adressed, and the idea that people shouldn't have labels forced on them, that's a really great thing they're aiming for. The problem I have with this particular pairing is the whole idea that Jack has turned Ianto gay with his awesome 51st century cock. There's always, for me, been a bit of an undercurrent in the relationship of Jack manipulating Ianto because he wants to direct Ianto's obviously loyal and faithful personality towards him, and I'd just like there to be slightly more in canon that tells me that Ianto hasn't been manipulated in this way, because it doesn't fit with the Ianto I see on screen, and apart from anything else it makes me dislike Jack.

You mean the bit between Ianto and Gwen in "Twilight Streets", right? But that's not really a groundbreaking revelation, on the contrary I seem to recall that Ianto snaps back at Gwen by telling her that nobody has ever figured him out, not even he has figured himself out yet. That's hardly an admission of his (bi)sexuality, but I'm probably being a bit picky.

I imagine the simple fact that he is in a relationship with Jack at this point defines him as bisexual, and so I see your point. I don't have problems in believing that Jack is Ianto's first man, though.

But in reality, he couldn't ever turn Ianto gay by just using his magic cock, but by being... lovable? Caring? There when Ianto needed him? I remember you wrote a wonderful meta a while back in which you gave an explanation of the possible motivations Ianto may have had into starting an affair with Jack. And they were all more than valid points.

The reason why I love this particular pairing is right because is so complicated. It's everything but boring, simple like that.

But I don't see how Jack could have manipulated Ianto, to tell the truth. First Ianto is too smart for that. Sure after all he went through in S1 I agree he was damaged and consequently vulnerable, but I can't see Jack taking advantage of his state. Hell, Jack would be a sick bastard to do such a thing.

I try to have a more positive vision of their relationship. Maybe Jack was sincerely supportive and caring in those awful moments? Sure thing is they never showed us how things went between them therefore I'm willing to take for gospel the Captain's blog because that's all we've got, but I imagine Jack being THERE for Ianto did the trick if nothing else because as I said Ianto is not stupid, and he wouldn't have fallen for bastard!Jack.
