Coulson's blind optimism and faith in pretty much the being goodness of every person and situation makes me love him yet also lol at him in equal measure. I think the whole being-goodness of SHIELD itself will become a Thing this season, because the whole setup, the team, the bus, the absence of a fishtank, every single thing that is said and done by these dorks on a plane pretty much hinges on Coulson's absolute unshakable faith in the fact that SHIELD are the good guys. 'Sorry, ma'am, we're the good guys.' That was back in Thor, ffs, that sentence is pretty much the essence of what Coulson is. If anything, Skye's parents, What Happened In Tahiti, whatever, were to cause a chink in that blind faith the whole bus would go boom. Oh, Coulson, let me hug you better so that never has to happen.

I wouldn't put it past Coulson to have snuck the fish tank in somehow anyway just to annoy Fury.

There are those who think he's a robot. And the series keeps dropping clues ("extra iron in my blood", etc.)

I'm pretty sure he Came Back Different, but I'm willing to keep an open mind as to how.

He's not a robot, I don't think. There's some sort of nanite or nanotech thing to do with Tony Stark that could be being hinted at in the extra iron remark, but I don't quite recall what the tech was and who used it,. I'm actually more drawn towards the theory that Fury didn't in any way make any effort to bring Coulson back, but Coulson revived on his own somehow regardless. Coulson has stated unequivocally that Loki stabbed him through the heart, so basically Coulson's been stabbed through the heart, on a midair aircraft carrier which is under attack, half broken, with plenty of other casualties, in the middle of what is essentially a war. The idea that SHIELD and Fury would put that amount of effort into reviving someone with such a fatal injury seems implausible. Unless Coulson's not what we think he is, which is possible, or, as I said, Coulson revived himself. Either way, I need to hug him better.
