It's really late and I'm tired and the pilot/1st epiosde of The Killing is on, and I'm sure I saw people posting about it, so I don't know if I should stay up and stick with it (it's a little slow right now and I'm hella tired), or watch it later or not watch it at all.

Advice, oh friends? (Bearing in mind I'm not much of a crime drama person, but I sure as shit don't reckon I'll be sticking with Torchwod after the first ep or two and there's not much on in the summer.)

I watched and quite enjoyed the second series of Luther, by the way. Funny that, because I did't have a SODDING CLUE what the hell was going on, backstorywise.

I could only manage the first episode but I heard the original version was way better. I think the pace was too slow, some things were too dumb and I just couldn't stand the gum-chewing expressionless lead actress: TVWithoutPity nominated her for 'Best performance by an inanimate object'.

There was also an uproar by disappointed viewers at a certain point, but I'm not spoilering it for you in case you decide you want to stick with it.

The Killing was o.k probably not as good as it could have been, but at least worth a look. I didn't like it as much as the original which I would definitely recommend though.

Tough question...

I guess it depends on your expectations. If you expect for this little mystery to be wrapped up anytime soon (like a lot of viewers were based on AMC's promos), then you'll be disappointed. If you loved Twin Peaks and are feeling nostalgic for that, this show isn't going to help. If you love atmosphere and mainly rain, then, yes, this show can be highly recommended. I myself thought the writing was way too obvious at times and relied too much on coincidences. However, I really liked the performance of the male lead and there was indeed some promise between the two cops toward the end of the season; their relationship could continue to be interesting to watch. The showrunner seems to think she's the greatest thing ever (please, she did Cold Case) and has riled a lot of people with her comments about how brilliant and groundbreaking this show is. (It's not.) So, if you're looking for another show to frustrate you and stir up a lot of discussion, this could be it. But so far, it's getting a lot of praise for not a lot of actual good writing. IMO.

Boy, that was a downer of a vague review, wasn't it?

Everyone says the Danish one was amazing, it recently got a Bafta, so I reckon it's better to go for that if anything. The BBC did show it, but on BBC4, which I don't think is routinely shown on the continent, but it may be on iplayer.

I'm surprised you are even watching any of Torchwood.
