tencrush: (do not want)
[personal profile] tencrush
I've let my paid account expire. No, it wasn't an accident or anything, I didn't want it anymore. I've ceased enjoying LJ fandom, Torchwood fandom in particular. Warring factions and wank that used to perhaps have the potential to amuse me now just depress me and make me turn the computer off.

I don't want to harsh any buzz or piss off people who are excited about TW New Whatever (sorry, I've forgotten, enlighten me?) so I no longer comment on the posts of people who are excited about it. I don't want to wallow in the misery of those who want Old Torchwood back, because wallowing is pointless and it won't resurrect the embossed car or the underground lair or the dinosaur, so I no longer comment on the posts of people who are wallowing. Mentioning that you miss Ianto makes you an insane bot, so I no longer comment on the posts of those people who, like me, still miss Ianto. I no longer mock those who send coffee because I don't care. I don't really care about any of it anymore. As a first fandom experience goes, it wasn't a great one. Add to that the bits where it got personal and nah, this journal can go belly up for all I care. I've met some lovely people, there's that. And that's quite nice. I suppose meeting lovely people, some that I would consider personal friends, though I don't know what they'd consider me to be, makes the entire experience worthwhile. And it's probably the reason I haven't deleted this journal.

Also, I can't bring myself to delete it because there's pretty pictures of Ianto in it. Quite a few of them. Plus, you know, two months from now I'll probably spam everyone left on my flist with lines and lines of academic Mad Men meta or something.

More likely, it'll be a picspam of Joan's fabulous breasts and arse and all the rest of her.

But yeah, just so you know. Not dead or anything. Just resting.

Edited to add a gif I stole from [livejournal.com profile] cirrocumulus which makes me happy in the face. Don't ask me why.

Also: Peggy/Don, yes, are you with me? I am going there. And I don't even like Don, but still, it could work for me. See! There's the meta coming out already.

It's been lovely fangirling Torchwood and Who with you, and I'm grateful to the fandom that let me bump into you and have some staggeringly good times. Hope you stick around here regardless and we can find other, happier things to squee over.

Well, nothing wrong with that; that's how I'm inclined to enjoy my TV, too.* I never did go in for analysis much, though I read some of it. When it started to get rabid I'd stop reading it. I did looove your picspams though.

*Vast, involved RPGs notwithstanding. I think that was my evil twin.**

**Evil twins! Did we ever do a proper evil twin?

I LOVE Who still, and I LOVE Eleventy, but weirdly, I have absolutely nothing to say about it. I just sort of go 'YAY, that was fun!' and then move on.

Big "me too" there. It's weird having someone actually competent running the show, isn't it? Better for my blood pressure, certainly, but I feel like I'm getting complacent or something.

Glad to hear you're sticking around, though. And I totally hear you about the LJ ennui...thank god I found the Sherlock fandom, otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to see my own friends page for the cobwebs.

I'm glad you found it as well! It's nice to see a familiar face 'round those parts. :)

I know, right? :) Not seeing too many Who fans over yonder, which is a bit surprising.

Quite! But then, I guess the would be the difference between a literary fandom and a scifi fandom, even if they do overlap slightly. :)

I don't have any TW-related stuff around my journal anymore as well. It's just not worth it. I am perfectly happy with Teh Moff at the helm of Who and everything I enjoyed about TW is, sadly, no more.

But, I will echo [livejournal.com profile] off_coloratura's words: I'M GLAD I MET YOU, BBCAKES. *glomp*

Here. Have some Moff. It'll make you feel better. :)

TW fandom was like a relationship that started out fun and sexy and ended in an ugly horrible break-up, so that you almost forget there was ever a fun, sexy part at the beginning. I swear, it isn't always this bad.

Please don't ever delete this journal! I still miss Ianto (although sometimes it surprises me when I remember he IS actually dead since I've almost completely convinced myself CoE was a bad dream I had for a short period of time last year) and all the wonderful picspams (even the last(?) one from CoE) are some of the highlights of my time on LJ and in Torchwood fandom.

There's been so much dross and negative stuff in this fandom over the past 3.5 years that it would be unfortunate to lose some of really good things (that are on this journal).

you should do the "Ianto wears a tie" picspam... b/c there would be a lot of pretty pics :)

You have to do what you're comfortable with. I know many are leaving LJ due to the cross posting situation that has upset a lot of people. (etc...) I have my usual couple boards I"m on but that's about it. Anyway...sometimes it's just time to move on. No matter what you decide, even w/LJ...all the best. :-)

The other day on a TW LJ I saw someone who I had, up until that point anyway, considered an adult, say in essentially so many words, "my side won, neener, neener." That pretty much kissed off TW for me.

Oh, you're leaving and now you're into Mad Men? Crap, no one on my flist watches it! (or at least, they don't respond when I ask if anyone's watching it). I would totally read any Mad Men meta you posted.

I don't think they're going to go to Don/Peggy. I think Peggy is taking Anna's place as the only one who "really knows" Don and they will remain platonic friends. Whether Don is headed for a stint in rehab (or whatever the 60's equivalent was) is another question. That last episode was awesome.

I'm kind of the same on TW.

Peggy has been great this season. That scene where she and the other guy were working in the hotel room and she challenged him by taking off her clothes? Priceless. Her relationship with Don is pretty interesting. He seems to see her as an extension of himself. I missed the first season, so I didn't know that he was the only one who came to see her in the hospital. I'm really going to have to go back and watch that season. Loved the backstory in the previous episode, about how he got the job.

Don's secretary is hilarious! Don's comment that Joan knows what he needs and that secretary is it - LOL, keep him out of trouble.

I just have to reply to your gif with one of my own.

As for Torchwood, I just don't care anymore. It's a shame that the fandom that first got me into fandom now completely disinterests me but it is what it is and at least I can still talk to my f-list friends about other stuff. Considering that almost no one on my f-list posts Torchwood stuff anymore (thank goodness I'm omni-fandom) that seemed to happen to a lot of people. At least I'll always have Due South. That show has been off the air for over a decade and the fandom is still somewhat active.

Yeah, that happens with fandoms. I had hoped Torchwood fandom would be different but there's a lot of ANGY HAET instead of "hey, okay, we disagree on this one thing but we both like this other thing over there, and that's cool.

Because I don't get into tons of different things, I hold onto fandoms like a Pope hangs onto his job (hence, I am still watching X-Files comms and I got into that fandom in 1997) but I understand why people completely lose interest.

There were a lot of Joan cosplayers at Dragon*Con!

awww~ Sorry you got TW as your first fandom experience, it's not all that bad, I swear there are fandoms with higher sane:crazy people ratio, its been fun squeeling with you. Personally, I'm in Merlin, considering its the fandom that got me back into drawing after a few years dry spell, I'll consider it a good one.

I've gotten out of the fandom mostly as well. Because I wasn't allowed to have an opinion, go figure that one out.

But I've been wondering how you were doing, and I'm glad you've checked in :)

I've enjoyed debating/discussions with you over the past almost 2 years.

Take care, and I miss seeing random posts from you.

Thing is, I need your predictions, because I'm sure you are prescient. I've taken to quoting you. About the only thing that interests me about the new thingy is whether you will prove to be right. About the lame storyline and characters, but also about the fact that Jack will indeed be sidelined.

So yeah I hope you can find it in you to give us the odd cynical comment or prediction, I've missed them.

I also think it's tough out there for those of us not interested in new Excalibur thingy but I also think it's become a kind of silent majority.

Personally I enjoyed the humour and straight from the hip attitude you've displayed. I never was a fan of Who or Torchwood... I just happen to do work in an industry where I end up spending time with the people who are fans, and the people who work on the shows. Your journal was refreshing in the "OH MY GOD YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL" atmosphere I find myself in all too often.

I haven't posted much in the past, but I can understand how you feel. I don't bother with anything Torchwood anymore and feel indifferent towards it now. I've been more interested in watching shows like Doctor Who (with Eleven), White Collar and Mad Men; that I've quite moved past CoE, Torchwood fandom and anything to do with it's future on TV.

Its great that you're into Mad Man, I wouldn't mind reading any comments or opinions that you have on it in the future.
