Speaking of internet haters who should be doing better things with their time, i.e. me, a personal note to the person who made this:



(The one that says ILU) This picture inspired me to use an openface Cooper style font in my header image, because it reminded me how fond I actually am of that font, especially the openface variety. (Mine is Alfredo, but this is beside the point.) Of all the images and messages on the Ianto shrine, I actually quite like this one, because it's sweet, as, to be fair, are most of the others. That's why I mentioned it, albeit sarcastically. That's just an aside, oh maker-of-the-ILU-picture, I am sure your heart and your sentiments are in the right place, as is the heart of everyone else who put something up on that shrine in Cardiff Bay. I have nothing personal against anyone who has done so, I, myself would have LOVED to have put something up on that shrine to Ianto because I miss him LIKE BURNING, I am still angry, I am still sad, I am still frustrated. My problem with the shrine is the same problem I have with the SaveIanto pdf, and the Save Ianto campaign in general, and it's that you, people of the Save Ianto campaign, have hijacked my grief and my anger and my frustration and used it to support your Annie Wilkes-style campaign to pester and bully and spam the BBC and anyone else you can think of with the message that IANTO JONES MUST BE RETURNED TO TORCHWOOD OR ELSE. Just like all the quotes you ganked for your document, just like all the charitable donations made to Children in Need, again with the way you've claimed this shrine as your own you're twisting people's genuine, heartfelt expressions and using them to claim support for your cause. And still, I can see from my inbox, you genuinely don't understand why this upsets and angers people. (People like me, but not just me, I just happen to talk about it sometimes.) Duh, dudes. Double duh.

Speaking of moving on and getting over it, though, Lessons in Torchwood Irony, part one: letiantorest. Hur, hur. I know, let's Let Ianto Rest by starting a community about Letting Ianto Rest called letiantorest. Guys, protip: Letting Ianto Rest: UR DOIN IT WRONG. There is not a smidgeon of irony to be found in the posts and comments, which is funny enough, but the fact that it seems to centre around self-importantly declaring it a space where fans can be Better Than Other Fans, while at the same time expressing a wish to Bring The Fandom Back Together is just... oh, fuck, it's delicious. You never fail to bring the luls, TW fans. Don't ever change.

I am rewatching TW S2 for Ianto and his phone. He is not on the phone enough in S2, I'm five episodes in and already grasping at straws. I may well have to lump it in with CoE, which is full of phoney Iantoey goodness, apart from the part in which he becomes dead. But I don't have to watch that part, because I'm pretty certain he's not on the phone after that happens.

Yeah, that's it, I'm outta here.

I've done S1 already. I know of some scenes that I haven't got to yet in S2 off the top of my head where Ianto is on the phone, Adrift being one of the memorable ones, so I might still be able to salvage enough caps from S2 for a picspam. If not, CoE goes in.

Hey, I didn't fully agree with you (though I do understand your take on it), but they could at least have the guts to come here and tell you why, politely, they disagree. Where I come from that's called 'behaving like a grown-up.'

No, I think that's just all the times I've been mentioned on there, ever, counted by someone who's been tracking who_anon for what I would assume is a very long time. I've not been over there much recently, but I don't think I've been mentioned in recent weeks or even months, so that's good. Unless I'm missing something, or have missed out on deleted personal wank about me. Which might be the case, I don't know, nor do I really care, it just seems like such a high number (and I have a niggling feeling the secretmaker probably tried a few names, and this one got the biggest search result for their picture? Or they're just making it up.) Gah, I don't know.

The shrine is like where fonts go to die, probably deservedly so. That's all I said. Well, mostly.

This letiantorest business is fail on an epic level. They're calling for civility, trying to “get the fandom back together,” yet they are very much not of the “live and let live” mentality.

As wacky as I think the SIJ crowd is, as far as I know, they’re not telling other people how to be proper fans. They don’t tell fans that they absolutely have to campaign, or keep mourning Ianto, or never, ever watch the show again. Since the PDF Report nonsense they’ve mostly kept their crazy to themselves. These letiantorest people, however, are pushing for the mourning and the campaigning to stop, trying to justify their actions with lines like "this grief isn't healthy, rational, sane-person behavior and you all need counseling" and "these over-invested Ianto fans are doing crazy, violent, menacing things so they should all be condemned and stopped because their fannish experience is ruining mine” and blah, blah, blah. They’ve put an embargo on people’s grief because it’s either not as real as theirs or unhealthy and it fills me with rage.

There are some questionable tacks being taken by much of the Save Ianto Jones campaign, but it doesn't really feel like the CoE-loving side of TW fandom is concentrating on the campaign in particular. They seem to come down on any Ianto fan still annoyed or upset by CoE. And, as much as I don't want Ianto back (for fear of a 'The Monkey's Paw' type result) I don't think that my annoyance and (sometimes extreme) dissatisfaction with CoE is ever going to go away. So, if 'bringing fandom together' only means 'everyone accepting the goodness of CoE,' then fandom will always remain sundered (at least, in the way that Who fandom has its pockets of fandoms-within-the-fandom). And after a big change, that only makes sense, to me. Time for everyone to start getting used to that, I say.

Ianto is totally on the telephone post death in CoE. In season 2 there is of course Sleeper, and the balancing on the shoulder mobile phone action in Adrift. I think the bit in Out of the rain, when he holds the ghost vase up to his ear to hear the souls, well that's like a phone.

I think it's really hilarious that fans need to set up a comm to tell people to let a fictional character rest, and then use it to remind people that mourning a fictional character is unhealthy. I think you should set up a comm called zombieteaboy. Let Ianto rise from the dead, yes.

Okay, one thought on the shrine. If people were putting this stuff up in the week or two after the episode, that makes sense, and is cute. Beyond that, I just don't think it's healthy. It's a fictional character. The actor is still around. I just don't get it.

I mean, I don't want Torchwood to continue without Ianto, but a big reason for that is because Tosh and Owen are gone too. I loved the crackyness of the show, and those three characters made it for me. Ianto was by far my favorite, but I loved the show, not just the character.

I can understand why people are still upset, heck, I'm still upset, and it offends me when people like letiantorest tell other people that they don't have a right to be upset anymore. Having said that, no, I don't think people should still be wallowing in their upset to the extent that the saveiantojones crowd are, because they're just circlejerking themselves into a frenzy, and by doing so they're alienating themselves from the fandom, and alienating people like me, who thought Ianto was the most awesome thing ever on the telly, but who don't really want to express that feeling anymore for fear of being labeled One Of That Lot. For me, my upset is that my show was killed. It was a show about five people and a dinosaur driving a freaking embossed car while they tried to be sekrit in their sekrit Hub lair. ALL those things are gone, except two of the people. I cannot express how upset I am that Myfanwy is dead, according to RTD, and I cannot express my sadness at losing the Hub, with all its nooks and crannies and archives and corridors and weirdness, it was a freaking character in and of itself, and all of that has been stripped away. I can't fathom why a creator would want to do that to a show, unless it's for commercial reboot purposes and I feel manipulated by all of it. That's why I'm still angry as well. Phew. Sorry. I digressed.

I am finding Sheldon less likeable this series, and that makes me sad. :(

I completely understand the upset. Heck, I'm still bothered by a character death that happened in the finale of a show ten years ago! I was referring to the wallowing.

Celebrating awesomely written TV characters is totally healthy, and exactly what fandom exists for, but yeah, they've twisted it into bat shit insanity, and that's not okay.

I agree with you. It's the death of the show, not just the character.

Don't get me started on Sheldon. I'm not entirely sure all involved are totally happy with where Sheldon went this season, either. I don't mind episodes like this Monday's, though. That was the best one in a while. Since the Wil Wheaton episode, I'd say.

Have you read the spoilers for the last two taped episodes? There's very, very good, and a little bit of bad.

He's just a bit... grating this season? Like his quirks have piled up and overflowed a bit. And I had this feeling last season too, where it seems like they can't quite make up their minds on how antisocial they want him to be, sometimes he tries to fit in and understand social interaction, and then he does this u-turn and looks down on all social niceties as being a waste of his time. I don't get where they're going with him.

I know. I think it's a difference of opinion between some of the writers. It's gotten worse this season with the Penny/ Leonard relationship. They've done worse things to Penny, IMHO.

Cool, it worked. Just highlight to read...

First, the next episode contains a bit of fan service. Everyone pitches in to help Sheldon, but his quirks get his way. Supposedly this is a good Sheldon episode. Penny takes him shopping, and we get to see Sheldon in a nice looking black suit. He also gets drunk of his own accord, and takes off his pants in front of an audience when he's receiving an award. I'm not sure I buy that Sheldon has issues giving speeches, but supposedly, other than that, he's not OTT in an annoying way.

Upcoming, in the next Wil Wheaton episode, Sheldon and the gang take on Wil, Stuart, and some other comic book store regulars in a bowling tournament. Sheldon was in a league when he was a kid. Totally believable. Trust me. I was too. lol

Anyway, the gang gets screwed because Leonard tells Penny he loves her, and they break up at the end of the episode.

Okay, here's the bad part. In the next episode that they just shot Tuesday...

Penny and Leonard are definitely finished, and it's basically about them trying to share Sheldon's friendship. Apparently the first half is done really well. Sheldon has been invited to Penny's for dinner, and he can't tell the guys, so there's hijinks of him trying to get across the hall.

The second half is where it breaks down. Leonard finds out, and he and Penny talk about it in the laundry room, but it ends up being this whole two parents fighting over the custody of their kid thing, and Sheldon gets regressed again towards the end.

What I don't get is why they can't have Penny and Leonard treat him like a child, but him be an adult and remind then that he's not. It would be so much funnier, and smarter, if they went that direction.

My only hope is that this is the last of that device because the Penny Leonard relationship is over. And may it rest in peace, and not pull a horror movie comeback by the end of the season.

This - almost 100% exactly this! The only place I differ is that the SIJ campaign and other things I wouldn't participate in in a million years don't bother me. But if they were making comments about me over at who_anon, I'd be pissed off too!
