I find it quite fascinating the way fandom finds these little tidbits, follows the news around and leaves their stamp everywhere. Some people must have an inbox full of google alerts, and they must jump for joy at every new article with a commenting option.
One day, maybe I'll animate his mouth and make him go MIMIMIMIMI!
You can get Google to alert you to things? I can't cope with all the crap that comes in to my gmail account anyway, never mind anything else.
Unlike the SIJ/SCB crazies (and just in case any are reading this, I know that not all of you are, but the company you keep is giving you a bad name) I don't have the time, energy or obsession to pour over the interwebs for TW stuff - real life gets in the way.
Yeah, just give it a search term and it'll mail you whenever a new webpage pops up with that term. So I'm guessing there's a few "Gareth David-Lloyd" alerts out there. I don't want to try because I'm afraid I'll get inundated with mails, but I'm guessing that's how peeps find articles like this.
Do you include everything? I know that for one of mine I didn't check "blog posts" and ended up missing out on articles. I just check everything, and ignore what I don't want.
And yeah, surprisingly the daily ones are less annoying than the weekly. It takes longer to sort through all the expanding and whatnot on the weekly than it takes me to deal with the daily if added up.
Yeah, I included everything. It's just easy to scroll through it and go oh that looks interesting and click on it. The only alert that is tough is the Doctor Who alert because most of it is saying you know the "doctor who did, blah, blah, blah" so you have to really look through that one to make sure you've got the TV show and not some random stuff, lol.
Hee.Yeah, I got rid of my doctor who one last year after I completely threw in the towel on Rusty. I'll probably start up again in the new year. Clean slate and all.
I think you can use modifiers, but the only one I've used so far is quotes around the name.
Thing is, just to be fair, there are over 1,000 members of that comm, and some are lovely sensible people that we know. Personally I think it's mainly a few well meaning kids, with a couple of crazy adults, like that woman with the degree. God knows if the internet had existed when I was a teenager I could have made a big fool of myself over some pretty shit pop stars.
If only they left the comments field alone. Those Welsh journos will no doubt be enjoying it.
I think you are right, and it's a few people in those comms that are passionate but perhaps blinkered? But those who aren't a little bit over-eager should try and temper that enthusiasm.
How did you guess! Well not Lamahl. I may have liked The Bay City Rollers at one point. I guess I would have been a lot younger than the SCB girls, but there must have been someone I was a fool for in late teens, I just can't quite think who. I think by 16 I decided that I was a rebel and was listening to Bob Dylan and David Bowie.
It's a shame they can't be more balanced really, if the sane ones could temper the over eager and the plain bonkers, but it never works.
David Bowie is a very good person to get het up about. I've been listening to his mid seventies stuff, esp. the work done with Eno, and it stands the test of time.
I want to post a TW vid request for David Bowie's "Boys Keep Swinging" - but not sure where to make the request.
If there are 1,000 members, then it's a bit more than "a few" of anything. The older ones tend to be more ripened in the batshit, and no one would blame them if it was a few teenagers. Saying stupid things is their right. No one should be worried about them because they have the excuse of being age appropriate for their behavior.
As far as anyone is concerned it's a bunch of "old" nutters. The woman who runs it is in her 40s, and therefore everyone else must be older.
Also, if there were well meaning people, why haven't most of them left the comm now that the shit has hit the fan? Not all of them can be trying to salvage things. No, I think more people don't understand how batshit this is, and really do agree with it than any of us want to accept.
I've seen people I thought were sensible act pretty insane. Especially those I've only met "on the internet." If you don't them personally, or have not had personal communication with them outside of a forum or message board, you can't really tell.
See I don't necessarily agree with that, as in if I were a member I may well still agree with the essence of the campaign and stay, even if I thought this was a big mistake. As they have closed the comm we can't tell, but certainly I think even on here there have been a couple of members who said that it isn't representing them at all, and I think from what I can gather that the SIJ people have disassociated themselves.
I suppose it's like being in a political party and not agreeing with a policy, but staying because you agree with the overall aims. I did almost join that comm, there were things I thought were brilliant, such as the shrine, and the charity, but I wasn't that keen on some bits of it, so in the end decided I preferred the ponies. I have some on my flist who are members though, and genuinely seem to know nothing of the report, or what happened with it so it does seem to not be all the members behind it.
I know there are always members who join, then never check their friend's list, or stop paying attention. I'm talking about the ones who do pay attention, and didn't leave. There should have been enough to notice a big de-friending.
There may be a few who are trying to change things, but no matter how much you agree with the idea, if you stay after you know how bad the execution is, then it's on you.
This isn't the same as a political party, and political parties are outmoded anyway. Most Americans identify as Independent these days for a reason. If you like the idea, it won't cost you millions to leave and start another campaign with less batshit. Anyone can do it. Heck, join SIJ and stay away from the coffeeboy thing. Now is the time for sane people to distance themselves.
I bet the little newspaper is getting lots of laughs about this. The bloody story was absolutely fine as well. It was quite calm and if anything very good for their cause, but they had to have a drama in the comments.
I give you a new toy, and look what you've done with it, LOL! No Christmas fruit cake for you! Though it looks like the Christmas nutes are out in full force.

As a sidebar - I always think that your "Do not want" icon makes Ianto look like Beaker from the Muppet Show: http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Beaker

Hmm now I just wonder if I do a Ianto one just for the weekend what kind of batshit would show up.
Oh this could make my shitty holiday a bit lol worthy.
