Okay, so first, I get this HUGE teal deer comment over at Ninja Teaboy about how I'm being derogatory and "rude" about the Save Ianto jones campaign because, wait for it, I referred to the people involved as "kiddoes" in the sentence "those Save Ianto Jones kiddoes are handing out postcards and shit and I feel really lazy," in which I was referring to my own half-arsed approach to the pony campaign, which mostly consists of me shouting "PONIES!" every once in a while and not much else. The comment is promptly deleted and its author has a whine in her journal about how I told her to fuck off, which I did not, and seriously, once again, I get the feeling that my fandom dealings all seem to be with 12-year-olds lately. Grow the fuck up already.

Then this appears at the anon meme (yes, I was trawling the anon meme for gossip from Hub 3 OF WHICH THERE IS NONE, dammit), and IT'S THOSE FUCKING BEARS AGAIN. WHAT THE FUCK IS IT WITH THOSE FUCKING BEARS??? See, for me, it's not even so much the bears, but that strange juxtaposition of these chicks with the bears who I would assume are also the people who write and devour NC17 m/m porn. That combination just does not compute with me.

And then of course, I get a fucking story posted to the Teaboy which is about fucking sentient infant towels?????? What the fuck am I supposed to do with that sort of shit? Am I just supposed to go around telling everyone to piss off out of my comm? Because that's what it's coming to, honestly. I am on the verge of giving up on life.

Well, to be fair, a lot of people are still living in a place where Torchwood is the sort of show that Jack and Ianto could concievably fuck on a pile of sentient baby towels... but this does not appear to be the case here.

You could always go to moderated submissions, but a) lots of work and b) people would probably want some sort of reason why their story was rejected.

Um, at the risk of pissing you off, you're not going to change idjits. The learning curve is just too steep. As for the NTB comm, it is your comm. You can post the rules again. Write a drabble about Ianto and a really big gun - metaphor or metal - and post it as a 'see, this is what I mean'.

I personally know the author of that fic you are commenting on, and it's all in good fun. Ianto isn't being woobie or anything of the sort, just being domestic, and being domestic isn't woobie or emo.

It's just not my kind of fic, and that's a problem for me in that community, because frankly, I dislike about 98% of the fic that's out there on the net. By starting that community, I've created a place where I only dislike about 50% of the fic posted, but that's still a hell of a lot of fic that just isn't my cup of tea. It's not reason enough for me to take it down, just to rant about occasionally, I guess. It's nothing personal, it's just not my cup of tea.

Yes, it does serve me right for going to that laugh-a-fucking-minute meme, but I've not even seen a single con report anywhere, so I thought maybe that was where the goss was at. It wasn't. But there were bears. I just can't bear the bears for some reason. They offend me, deep inside.

This is the primary problem I have with the teaboy comm, which is that I'm not the greatest fic fan in the first place, and there's an awful lot of fic out there that I simply don't like, but perfectly adequately meets the criteria of the community. Which was the case with the towel thing, which I just though was incredibly childish and twee. But it's not called ninja-fic-that-whelk-likes, so there's not a lot I can do.

I did try to reason with the woman who deleted her comment. I think the least she could have done was respond to what was quite a reasonable argument. We were saying that both are good causes, and let's just work together. There are a lot of members on ninja teaboy that are also members of the saving campaign.

I find the bears very odd, and I don't get them. Especially as they seem to belong to grown up people?

As to the fic, well that other one you took down, it had to go. It was actually offensive, still makes me shudder to think of Ianto batting his eyelashes in a frock. Mostly though i think that if they meet the guidelines then there isn't much you can do. Bad fiction has to be a risk on any comm, unless you become elitist about it, and that causes other problems.
