Ah, fannish ennui, how I've missed you...

Apart from various and assorted personal happenings keeping me off the internets, there's other stuff, too. I'm not feeling the love no more. This, I'm sure, will pass eventually. (And when I say "not feeling the love," what I actually mean is it seems that people are spitting bile at each other again. Maybe I'm having perceptual difficulties.)
I've seen a few people bidding their goodbyes to Torchwood fandom recently and it saddens me in a way, but it does feel like to many people there's a chapter that's ended for good. That's not down to Ianto, specifically, I think there's a general feeling going around that this show died in July and it's not coming back. Incidentally, I really think we'd have heard about renewal by now, dudes. I am somewhat relieved that we haven't, I have no interest in a continuation of Torchwood, I really do think the story's been told and I wouldn't have watched it. As things have settled down I've come to realise that that's not simply because I find Barrowman and Myles to be two of the most tedious people on television, but also simply because I really don't think there's any story left to tell. I don't think I'm the only one.
Anyway, I think I might perform a friendslist cull in a week or two. I've connected with a lot of people through TW, but some our interests seem to be diversifying, guys. Big time. Having said that, I find a lot of your interests interesting. Unless they involve that show with the Wincest, I just don't care about that show in any way, shape or form. I'll be doing some picspams soon (LOL, I say that every week, and it never happens! That's because I'm lazy and easily distracted by life.) and in the meantime I'll just stick with The Big Bang Theory and Glee, two shows that will never fuck me in the arse in quite the way that Torchwood managed to. They make me feel pleasant and safe, and that makes a refreshing change.
I just saw Barrowman playing a banjo and shouting about pigs on CBBC. I have no desire to work out what the hell I was watching, but it was unpleasant.

Date: 2009-10-13 02:41 pm (UTC)But yes Glee is good.
You know I agree part of me hopes that TW is done, but a teeny tiny part of me wants to see what bull shit they can pull out of their asses for a new season.
I'm not sure if there would have been a renewal announced yet just b/c I'm sure they are waiting to capitalize on some big moments in DW to announce it.

Glad M is doing better, btw.

Date: 2009-10-13 03:50 pm (UTC)His kids show: either a fearless expose showing how animals are enslaved to the human race to work for their petty needs or a cute show about how cute animals are when they do what they do (being cute).
Take your pick.

Date: 2009-10-13 04:23 pm (UTC)Me, I'm in two minds about TW Series 4, there were rumours that it was commissioned but heard nowt since. I actually like Barrowman (it's the Gay mafia at work - lol) but freely admit he's not the best actor in the world. But given the way Children of Arse ended, I doubt he'll have more than a few cameos. Depends if it's a reset to S2 with diff. characters, or more of this EPIC and BRAVE "across five nights" malarkey.
I avoid the ugliness of the disintegration of the fandom as much as possible... Gwack v Janto, ad infinitum and the sheer bile/spew/vitriol that sickens me.
I stick my head in the sand and read lovely fics where all the team are together, and nothing too bad happens.
GDL seems to have gotten over TW, why can't we <-- ooo, provocative!
Re: If it feels right, do it
Date: 2009-10-13 05:12 pm (UTC)I'm starting to look forward to Girl Number 9 almost as much as the last series of Torchwood, if only because I feel that Gareth is going to be used better in this 30 minute drama than he was in an entire episode of Torchwood.
And I now fangirl James Moran for saying that he'd cast Gareth in everything that he did if he could :) and for saying that Gareth will really surprise people in GN9.

Date: 2009-10-13 04:38 pm (UTC)I missed Glee last week, but I think I will watch this week...it is a show where you don't have to think a whole lot, there isn't a whole lot to read into it, just watch and enjoy.
I never got into SPN, either.
Oh, Animals at Work...what a silly show!

Date: 2009-10-13 06:48 pm (UTC)I've seen that too. It's sad that Torchwood as a fandom is dieing, but I knew it would probably happen after CoE; RTD didn't just kill Ianto, he killed what made Torchwood Torchwood and put a Quatermass remake in it's place. Right now I'm so much more excited about the actors new projects than I am about new Torchwood.
By the way, I love The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon is awesome. One lab accident away from being a Super Villain, indeed.

Date: 2009-10-14 04:24 am (UTC)tooprominently.I won't mind if you culled me from your flist, though I enjoy reading your thoughts on TV and life, since they're so different from my own and everyone else I know. I blame my new interest in the show with the Wincest(or, preferably, the Angel/Human) on the lack of DW. There's a need for apocalyptic musings at this time of the year....
Merlin's quite wonderful though.

Date: 2009-10-14 12:34 pm (UTC)I think I realised the other day that I had treated CoE as a 'special' and nothing much is supposed to happen in specials, which is why I'm so angry at what did happen. But it does feel a bit like the BBC, RTD & Co are also looking at CoE and thinking that wasn't supposed to happen, what do we do now, have we got a S4?

Date: 2009-10-14 03:46 pm (UTC)I've been getting into Glee as well! Seeing a show on TV that doesn't take itself seriously is a breath of fresh air to me.
Sorry if I don't post much, but I just prefer to be quiet sometimes (maybe a bit too much). I still enjoy reading your posts; but I'm kind of trying to move on from Torchwood, since I don't expect a fourth season and wouldn't really care to watch it. I've been avoiding the DW specials until Moffat takes over and I don't watch SPN.

Date: 2009-10-14 04:49 pm (UTC)I heart Sheldon, too. What does Penny see in Leonard?? I mean, really... ;)
I'm trying to get into Glee. I've been recording it. It's not must-see, but it is amusing what I've seen so far.
(Just back from a week in the UK and somehow I managed to dodge the Barrowman-on-tele-24/7 bullet!)

Date: 2009-10-19 05:59 pm (UTC)But I digress. I have missed people spitting vile at each other (phew, get enough of that other places, thank you so much) but I too am so ambivalent about the whole TW fandom. I adored it pre-Reset, loved it pre-Exit Wounds, and I think they showed some eps after that but I've blocked them (and their results out). I do hope to get back into fandom - in a positive way - soon, though, so perhaps we can banish fannish ennui around TW together.
AND, I have to say, hurray for GLEE!!!! I literally injure my cheek muscles from grinning during that show, and I cannot wait for each episode. Although I don't know that they won't do something that I hate, I also know that they'll FIX it, in character, in plot (if there is such a thing) and in a way that makes sense. Not just to satisfy someone's god-complex about forcing a character to make a decision that he is otherwise clearly equipped to make. Er, sorry, don't know where that came from...
So yay to Glee, and yay to it making Tencrush happy. I am drooling over Finn and loving Sue, and I even liked the pregnant girl last week. Excellent, brilliant, innovative, funny, painfully moving (without being decimating RTD) TV.
