John Barrowman on season 4: "We gotta get Jack a new piece of ass."

Quite.

Link to interview, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] forgiveninasong, here.

I don't really have any words left about the way what we were watching has been twisted beyond all recognition by those involved in making it. I really, honestly, just have no words left for this. I am completely talked out about my rage and my incredulity and my whatever else it is I've got that I can't find the words for anymore. I was watching a different show, dudes, a show with respect for the characters and the relationships and the world that was created and the messages that were sent. How did I let that happen? When did that happen? What a fucking joke that was. Ha ha.

It's no wonder I want to buy the man a pony, really. For fuck's sake, he's been through enough shit.

JB is doing a "look there, shiny" kinda thing, I don't blame him cause in a way, if the fans are angry and saying we won't watch TW anymore, BBC wouldn't see a point investing in it. I think the renewal is just a rumor at this point, to gauge reactions. Actors come out, be witty, do interviews and try to sell us their show all the time, it's just with the way RTD pissed off the fans, JB is having a much harder time winning the fans back.

Personally, I think they still have no clue why the fans are upset, they just saw a lot of "bring Ianto back", which to them probably means they did something right to get such a reaction from fans. When what we're really upset about is the way RTD completely deconstructed the characters and show, and what looks to be a bait and switch from where we're sitting. As you mentioned in your other post, RTD's idea of romantic or relationship is very different from ours.

Hope it's ok to give my 2 cents in your journal.

JB is only jealous because he's not getting a pony (and I donated).

Honestly, I think this proves your prediction that Jack is not coming back and JB might think it's a bit unfair that everyone is all over Ianto's death (and nobody talks about poor Jack's fate), but he will miss out on a fan outcry when Jack makes his exit in Who.

We really should get them to notice "Ianto wants a Pony", maybe. Though the other fans are not helping in their insistence they want Ianto back. We're big girls, we get over character deaths all the time, we just think RTD is a hack writer and need to update himself on his audience, or at least stop telling us he writes to make himself happy.

And they think they'll fix everything by bringing in 'a new piece of arse'. See? See? They were not homophobic in the least.

I already said this somewhere else but I'll repeat it here if you don't mind, CoE was written by karaokegal.

If you're familiar with her, her vision of empty bastard Jack/hate for Ianto/GDL you'll agree what's going on in TW land match to perfection.

You would think, if he spent the panel (by all accounts, I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the vids)acting like a performing monkey on speed to Keep Things Nice, he'd realise that saying that would go down like a lead balloon.

We need to link to larger websites with more traffic, but right now, the TW articles are slowly dying down and people are getting tired of it, it'll be completely dead next month unless BBC makes some sort of announcement.

Didn't you notice the distinctive trait?

Or have the non-official GDL site link to it. I don't think emailing these guys would help, they probably don't read any of the emails flung their way.

You know, I've had this niggling feeling over recent years, as DVD commentaries and creator interviews become more numerous, that maybe it's not such a good thing to know/see/hear so much about the artists whose work we enjoy. Because then you get stuff like this.

I've done a couple promotional interviews myself, and after one of them, my husband said, "You're too normal. They don't want to hear that this is just another job to you, they want to believe there's some sort of magic and glamour going on when you do it."

Whether that's true or not, it does point up the fact that promotion is just another kind of performance, and one that may not fit in with what we see in the art itself (or with reality). Indeed, that probably won't.

They may love playing these parts, they may genuinely love the show, but I really feel they're not as invested in them as we are. It's a job to them, and part of their job is 1) to make the best of what the writers give them and 2) when doing publicity, to act like the work they're doing is the greatest thing EVER. Whether they actually think so or not.

This just makes me feel that maybe this enormous supply of behind-the-scenes info isn't such a great thing.

The fact is, they're not doing a good job ATM.

I really think they should just shut the fuck up because ATM each one of them looks like is making an atrocious effort to alienate people.

Get out of my brain, I was thinking the same thing. CoE would be something she would write. Right down to Jack leaving Earth so he can go back to the only person he's ever loved; The Doctor.

You forgot Eve Myles' statement that Jack and Ianto were the "comic relief" in CoE.

Deffo we're watching different shows.

I really hope John Barrowman goes into the next season(s) to find himself relegated to the role of "bugger of the pieces of arses" while Gwen inflate beyond recognition until she blows up.

And to be honest, at this point I'm happy for GDL who finally got out of this shit.

He can do better, really.

But he's just being funny!

"gassed by an alien fart" -- awww, yes, that was so sad. Really. Can feel the love and respect.

"There would never be a Torchwood without Captain Jack." -- Well, he was certainly emphatic (and serious) about that. Wishful thinking?

Jack will probably be back in episode one with his new piece of ass. An all new happy, shiny Jack. But it'll be OK because he's been traveling for 1001 years. Can't wait...
