Random things:
  • I like fandom because it brings me joy and if it can't bring me joy, then I can't be bothered with it. Sometimes I need to rant and rave about things because I need to get rid of the shit in my head that doesn't bring me joy. RTD doesn't bring me joy, he sucked the joy out of Who for me a good two seasons ago and now he's sucked the joy and life out of Torchwood as well. Sorry if that opinion offends you, I don't agree with the opinion of everyone I talk to, and I don't expect everyone I talk to to agree with mine. Let's agree to disagree and leave it at that. If you can't do that, then fine. Go away. Fandom =/= srs bsns. Is telly shit.

  • [livejournal.com profile] kelticbanshee ia looking for transcripts of the pre-CoE interviews at NY ComicCon with Eve Myles and Euros Lyn, and at Torchsong with GDL, JB and whoever else was there (well... there-ish). If you were there, give her a shout, guys. It's important research and that.

  • Things that do give me joy: £480 pounds for a pony already! You people rock my world and I fucking love you. Honestly. THAT'S what I'M talking about.

  • Can I just reiterate for all you people who are all excited about Torchwood Series 4 now: JACK IS NOT IN IT. Mark my words. When it happens and you get all sads about that, I'll point back here at this post and laugh just a little bit. But not AT you, WITH you. And then we will cry and have a drink together like friends, yeah? Because I do love you all. Really, I do.

I am sort of pleased but not overjoyed about Moar Torchwood, in that I would have been fine with CoE was the end of it albeit with occasional wails of "why weren't you good before you all got fired?!" I can't quite imagine it without Jack but I'd probably watch it anyway. Actually I can't imagine how Gwen is going to be in it, what with the baby and all. It's not really the best job for parents, as proved by Jack and Alice.

If Jack isn't in S4, I suppose at least we're not going to be quite as blindsided as it as we some of us were about Ianto's death.

After all, the BBC are surely going to announce who's going to be cast in the show well in advance.

The only thing which brings me joy relating to Torchwood at the moment is hearing RTD having to justify himself and trying to make himself sound unperturbed by all the furore when really he's pissed off that people aren't bowing down and worshipping at his feet. That amuses me greatly because it's akin to a toddler throwing a tantrum on floor of a supermarket.

Then again, I've never been a fan of the direction in which his writing and producing goes, especially when it comes to sickly favouritism of characters made all the more galling when he lambasts us for daring to like a character he's not that bothered about ...

I'm going to take his advice and watch Supernatural instead because he can't bollocks that up. Only wise thing he's ever said ;-)

Anyway, I'd be surprised if Series 4 actually happens. No doubt the Beeb will drop it when the casual viewers who watched S3 forget that Torchwood exists and the core viewers have long since pissed off.

Someone on ONTD is liveblogging the DW panel on SDCC and some very nervous girl asked if RTD had any plans for TW.

Anwer : he has lots he says - but there'll be more about that in the Torchwood panel this afternoon - but "When you're dead you're dead. Sorry".

Nice way to rub it in, bastard.

He is a charming soul, isn't he.

All his recent comments have made for interesting reading. You see, I'd have respect for him as a writer and producer if he had respect for we as viewers and fans. We could disagree on our ideas of what makes good viewing, but so long as there was that respect, it's all fine and we can be adults. But to try and belittle us all for engaging with his creations and daring to disagree shows someone with a little bit of a god complex ...

But bastard is a better way of putting it ;-)

Will be interested in hearing what comes out of the panel. I hasten to disagree with the "when you're dead you're dead" comment. Er, Rhys, Rose, Jack, The Master ... how many more instances can we think of of dead not being dead in the DW/TW universe?

Except, he'll likely become a very dark deus ex machina, killing children and popular character because Gwen is HUMAN and, of course, wouldn't, because humans can't make difficult decisions for the greater good without becoming EVIL.

You and me both.

'No doubt the Beeb will drop it when the casual viewers who watched S3 forget that Torchwood exists and the core viewers have long since pissed off.'
Oh man, the casual viewers would leave in droves if they had to wait 14-months between series 3 and 4.

I don't quite get what's supposed to happen with S4. It's BBC Wales' programme but Gardner and RTD who no longer work for them still talk about it like it's theirs to make and decide to make.

Confused :(

Yeah. I can't help but think that we got a bit played by all of this: we gave them our support in exchange for getting our show back. Instead, we have Children of Earth, and RTD telling us to go watch Supernatural.

I keep hearing that we're supposed to be getting an Americanized Torchwood, which would explain a lot about how this sort of became mainstreamed during CoE.

EXACTLY! That's why I'm a bit upset about it all. I do not like being used for RTD agenda. I also don't like being told what what to read or what to watch. I'm not a Supernatural fan. If watching one season did not do anything, I doubt RTD talking about watching the 'hot guys' will change that fact either.

Yep. I think that's what upsets me the most. RTD basically took everything that made Torchwood Torchwood (he even killed off Myfanwy) in the first two series and destroyed it, and then he got pissed off because we didn't like that Torchwood was completely different.

I've heard that. Wouldn't surprise me.

Sometimes I wonder if the success of CoE has made RTD's and Gardner's plans less certain. BBC Wales may be less than enthusiastic about handing them a megasuccesful show to launch their US careers with especially since they seem to have gutted everything out of it making it harder for BBC Wales to continue it themselves.

Wow, I'm being referenced again *blushes* And labelled "important research". Oh, goodness me, I'll have to document all of this properly. Not that I'm not doing it already, but, you know, more thoroughly. After all, we all know how important it is to be able to walk up to someone and say "on such day, at such convention, you said, and I quote", how it gives a lot of weight to whatever you are saying.

Do I send you the bribing cookies now, or later in private? LOL No, seriously, no bribing going here, I'm genuinely touched that you are broadcasting my requests! :)

And, yeah, I think you may be right about Jack not being in it. Or, if he is in it, it won't be Jack as we know him... :(

'At the risk of sounding crass, this is why I'm glad my interest in all things Who/TW begins and ends with Ianto.'
Glad to see I'm not the only one. I've said that the episode where Ianto gets killed will be the last episode of Torchwood I'd ever watch (and it was).
