I was thinking maybe I could start a community specifically for people who admit that Children of Earth was a well-written piece of televisual drama, but do not agree with some of the creative choices that were made in it, so that we may tell other people that they are wrong for agreeing with those choices. Then someone else could start a community for those people who thought it was a well-written piece of televisual drama, and agree with the creative choices made in it, but also loved Ianto and want him resurrected somehow, as opposed to those who agree with the creative choices made in Children of Earth, but thought it wasn't Torchwood. Then maybe someone could start a community supporting James Moran, but with an anti-RTD slant, where people can go to tell other people that they should be nicer to James Moran, this to counteract the community I just visited where people love RTD, but think Moran's a bit of a prick, and spend their time telling other people how wrong they are to say mean things about RTD. Then a large group of you could bugger off to the community for people who who hated Children of Earth but loved the fact that Ianto died because he was dull, and the rest could join the campaign to bring back Myfanwy.


You know I'm cynical, right, but seriously, there's a small part of me that can't help but think it was Russell's ultimate goal to break fandom like this. Just for the luls.

As much as I LOATHE Ianto's death and that whole subplot, this is a sign of good I mean, provocative writing, and I'm sure RTD's loving every minute of it. It's the sign of good stirring drama, that these characters can move people to such... extremes. That's why booing, throwing books at him, executive ~coffee bean measures~ and sending letters to the BBC is pointless. You're just giving them what they want, a high stirred reaction. RTD is laughing all the way to the bank.

I believe I've seen a bunch of links/mentions of comms for fic which deny CoE, etc, too. (Or I might have dreamed that.) That's fine, but just... label your fic in the header and we'll know if you are writing an AU and everybody's happy.

It's been interesting to read some of the threads on [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and see differing points of view, actually. (Except for the character-bashing views, which make me *facepalm*. Really? Some people can't let any discussion of CoE, the rain or what they're having for dinner pass without bashing that character?)

I think this will probably calm down. Eventually. But a divide will remain between people who hate/deny CoE and people who like/accept it - which is the case among my f-list for sure. I just don't feel a need personally to argue about these things with anyone, since it's totally subjective and you can't win either way. :)

I was discussing last night with lorelei_chase last night about how the fandom just seems to have completely splintered and ruptured, all over Children Of Earth, when just a week ago, we were all together and excited and spaffing out together. It's so fucking horrible. And I hate it.

I've got people NOT SPEAKING TO ME because of my continued belief that, even after CoE, I still think Gwen is stupid, and that I hated that Ianto died, but understood why he had to.

IT'S HORRIBLE, and I want it to end now :( Can we go back and pretend that CoE never happened? :(

Buffy fandom got really fun during S6 in particular right after Seeing Red. Tara's death created a controversy very simlar to Ianto's and there were really vociferous debates about basic facts, like whether Spike had attempted to rape Buffy or not. And things didn't let up until the show ended.

What if you thought it was an unevenly written but well directed and acted piece of televisual drama, do not approve of several creative choices, love Ianto, would rather GDL get an even awesomer role, or, come back with Ianto turning against Jack, are not a major RTD fan or hater, support James Moran just fine but think he needs to toughen up a little and perhaps look at this analytically and realize he got 567545550 positive comments and about 20 negative ones that were uncalled for, and think COE wasn't really Torchwood but the Passion of Jack Harkness, Part 456?

I had comments returned to me from the JB official chat site because I dared to say that I thought the fans were deliberatly misled. Apparently, this ASSUMPTION on my part, was an attack on JB's buds RTD and Moran. (Oh the humanity!).

The funny part, my exact same comments were printed without alteration on RTD's own web site.

Now here's the $64 million question: Who do you think my respect went up 10 points for and who's went down -10 yrds and a 4th down?

JB's Torchsong debacle of telling us "we were gonna see great things from DA GAY GUYS, (which I didn't call him on at his chatsite, but probably should have in retrospect)has now morphed into todays Chicago Tribune Article of "some people will be happy with where the relationship goes, some won't." Nothing like a little honesty after the REVEAL OF DA BIG LIE has already circled the globe.

Hey, he's an actor, he doesn't write the scripts and he's very clear that acting is just a gig for him (There's a quote about how he doesn't get involved in script decisions, etc). In the next breath he says he's like to do Captain Jack for the next 10 years. Poor JB, just wait until he finds out the new writers imagine him in a romance with a weavil. Should be fun.

As for fandom stories, that's easy, canon S3 or AU S3 notation takes care of that little problem.

But if you think this is bad, I predict that the shit will really hit the fan when CJ comes back with a new love interest - female of course.

LOL. I didn't know people were getting mad at each other for differing views on COE! I have trouble understanding some people's reactions, but I'm not MAD at them for it - like Foxy said, it's all subjective. I think this will all calm down when we're all less emotional about it. I sincerely hope so anyway.

I think RTD loves getting a big reaction from people, even if it's negative, as griggharris said. In the Declassified, basically he said he killed off Ianto to make it more dramatic, more serious. As if we didn't get the message that anyone can die in TW in Exit Wounds.

And yeah - in all of this, people are forgetting they're giving TPTB exactly what they want - a reaction. All this in-fighting, crying, begging, campaigning and whatnot is showing them they did exctly the right thing, because EVERYBODY is up in arms. Want to create mass hysteria on the internet? Kill off Ianto! Kill Myfanway! Create an awe-inspiring storyline which makes the critics drool and other people want to kill themselves from the sheer hopelessness of it all!
