I lied.

I am still holding off reading your comments and reading most of what other people have posted on CoE. I woke up from a sleepless night yesterday and I thought I had salvaged some good from the ruins, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised I was wrong. All I do is just get angrier and angrier the more I think things over. I wish I was able to articulate the thoughts I have as quickly as others are, but my head's a fucking mess at the moment, I feel like I've been retconned.

I'll get there eventually.

I understand exactly how you feel. And I am just enraged to the point of speechlessness by all those mealy-mouthed toadies of RTD who are gushing on about how great it all was(the series, I mean). I suppose it was great, but then again, viewed in another light, it was a complete load of pants.
I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better.

Honestly (and this is me totally admitting my denial and insanity), I really didn't come to terms with it UNTIL I wrote it out in my head. I know it sounds delusional, but if this is the end of Torchwood as we know it, it IS possible for it to have an open ended... ending where Ianto magically comes back to life and remains awesome. I started roleplaying the possibility last night with a friend and it really did throw a blanket over how I was feeling beforehand. Don't get me wrong, it's totally hard to forget what you see on screen, and it's going to take the jaws of resistance to not throw a book at RTD's head. We rely on canon to make us happy, not slap us in the face and kick us in the privates. But this has always been the track record with Torchwood - inevitable disappointment.

I was thinking, before CoE aired, that it could lead to a revamped TW. Now it's obvious that CoE was the revamp. But, every little thing that made it "great event television" for non-fannish viewers subtracted tenfold from the joy the original gave me. (I love Dark. I don't care for Depressing.)

As a result, the "good" I've been finding in it has been very, very harsh.

I'm dreading Jack's eventual appearance on Doctor Who.

You are so right!

The more I think about it, the more I believe that RTD offed Ianto and destroyed TW3 in a bid for a different kind of show on BBC1.

That way, the new fans don't have to deal with all those inconvenient little truths about the old characters (Ianto's bisexuality, Gwen's infidelity, Jack's omniwhatever.). The new fans will be just fine with a new series, with Mommy Gwen.

And I'll bet anyone a Retcon pill that if Jack comes back, they'll mention his omniwhatever once and then he will conveniently fall for a female character.

But I really feel sold out as an original fan. Its kind of like those of who watched from the beginning are the ugly children RTD would like to forget about. Hey, he doesn't need us now, he's got a BBC1 for his new trophy wife.

To be honest I think this was the end. RTD's off to the US and has decided to kill of the show (possibly as some have said to have a big event TV showcase he can show to US producers etc). It may get remade over there possibly but I doubt they'll make another series here.

I know how you feel. Not only did the kill off Ianto by making him a women in the fridge but they had to make Jack really dumb to do it. I still believe that Jack knew about the whole Debenhams thing (why else would he have had that 'what the hell are you talking about' look when Ianto said his dad was a master tailor).

At least Ianto belongs to Fanfic now.

I'm only able to read or comment on general pieces about the quality of the acting, the overall plot etc, and one or two pieces on Jack, but I can't go anywhere near anything about Ianto. I can't read any fic yet either. I've tried re-watching some of it, but when I see Gareth trying to act around the script and show us glimpses of what Ianto should have really been in this series, I cry again. I am stunned at how upset I was on Friday. I should have gone into town for the shopping, but my husband actually wouldn't let me go, he said I'd just end up crying in the street. Crazy isn't it, but it's like you say, it's the anger most of all that eats you up and won't let go.

I hope it is o.k to comment here as you don't know me. Feel free to ignore.

I pretty much did nothing else for the last 4 days than reading reaction posts (so I spared me the viewing of Day 5). I even went to Gallifrey Base that's how masochistic I am.

I really hope you will be soon be able to post your thoughts, though.

Someone posted a link (http://hotfile.com/dl/8394523/4397f2c/Torchwood.Declassified.S03.Children.Of.Earth.DVDRip.XviD-W4F.rar.html)to the Declassified file of the DVD box (can't bring myself to watch it)and it seems that it proves exactly my worst fears how RTD is spinning this around. I pretty much confirms that Ianto's death was just a plot device to get Jack to do what he did to his grandson and therefore can leave the earth (to meet the doctor), my words not his.

And now I'm drinking bear, because that's how we Bavarians cope.

I wish I could be retconned. Finally got a good night's sleep last night, thanks to kids sleeping in. Every moment I get to myself, I inevitably start crying. This is just ridiculous. I did manage to read one fix-it fic, by [livejournal.com profile] such_heights. I have to admit, it was therapeutic, but of course, I was crying by the happy end. *sigh* I have an idea for a Jack COE vid, but I don't know when I'll be able to look at Day 4 and 5 again.

Umm...is this supposed to make us feel better?

Yes, a retcon pill right about now would be welcome...

(I've spent way too much time reading reactions this weekend, and I hardly feel better for it.)

Has everyone seen the "save the coffee boy" campaign?

There are plans to protest at comic con and send coffee packets to BBC wales.

I love this fandom

This is not going to be any sort of comfort to you at all, but I have to say that in a horrible, twisted way it makes me feel better that you're still upset about it. Because I am too, and I'm getting tired of reading about how it was such a great series and we should all be grateful to the writers for giving it to us. Fuck that. I'm never going to "come around" or feel better about this, and I frankly don't give a shit that the writers are (OMGZ!) getting negative reactions. They're grown men, I'm sure they can handle it, FFS. They don't need to be fawned over and pampered by the fans. Especially as certain people are coming across as fairly condescending anyway.

Erm, that turned into a rant halfway through, somehow. Sorry?

any reaction from the cast?

I realize that they probably can't comment until after it shows on BBCA, and other locations, but has there been any word from the signings in the UK this week that GDL and EM attended about their reactions?

Did they do any signings yet? I thought that was at the end of this week.

Anyway, GDL posted a note on his Web site today. Sounds pretty final. At least as far as Ianto is concerned.

Should have looked first: GDL's web site has a 'thank-you' to his fans.

Ok, Gareth, if we take you out and buy you a few pints, will you tell us what you're really thinking?

I realize he has to be careful, given that he's a young actor and can't afford to piss of any BBC bigwigs, but I can't help but believe that he's not unhappy about the fan response.
