Well, I don't know, feel free to join in, anyway. Oh, and if you've been removed from my flist, it's because you're twittering me. I don't care for it, if I did, I would sign up there, and I haven't, so, you know.

My meme:

  • PUSHING DAISIES. I tried with this one, I really did. I did the first few episodes when they were on ITV, but the basic premise of the show bugs me so much and is so far-fetched that I just couldn't do it. And, no, I have nothing against Anna Friel, I think she's quite easy on the eyes, really, nor do I have anything against the dorky guy. What I DO have a problem with, is the voice-over, and that was pretty much the last straw for me when it came to giving up. THE VOICE! The endless "pie-maker" references! EGADS SHUT UP ALREADY!!! Nope. I couldn't do it. I'm glad you like it, if you do. I just don't... get it. Don't hate it, just don't get it.

  • HEROES. I tried even harder with Heroes, to the extent that I watched probably 75% of both seasons one and two. It just didn't grip me on any level, and after watching the first episode of season 3, I gave up. I had that thing with Heroes that's always a big hint for me, which is that after about 10 episodes, I still couldn't remember anyone's name. What a giveaway.

  • LOST. Two episodes, and it just made me laugh and laugh and laugh. Again, couldn't grasp any names and, more tellingly, I had no desire to. Gave up.

  • ANY OF THE STARGATE FRANCHISE. OHGODNO. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. With it not actually being anywhere on my television, ever, I often think that all of Stargate is just a figment of the Stargate fandom's imagination. Why they would collectively want to imagine such a thing is beyond me, though.

  • HARRY POTTER. This one's a no-brainer if you know me. IT'S A CHILDREN'S BOOK ABOUT WIZARDS. Repeat that after me just one more time, would you? In fact, anyone who can say the words "wizard" or "muggle" without laughing uncontrollably just isn't someone whose brain I can quite understand. The worst thing about the children's book about wizards, is that it was then made into series of films starring a bunch of on-the-cusp-of-pubescence children, who turned into some of the most unattractive teens and adults ever to grace the screen. I think this is probably what offends me most, because I LOVE teen flicks, especially if there's pretty people involved. I don't even care if they're about wizards, as long as there's pretty teens being pretty and teenagerish. But, no, there just wasn't a Lindsey Lohan amongst them (Oh, come on, have you seen Mean Girls? You have to admit she's kind of edible in that flick.) Oh, and anyone who tries to tell me that Radcliffe is an attractive grownup can just go stick their head in a pig. And, no, that's NOT his cock in that picture, it's one of the worst Photoshop jobs I've seen in a while. I digress. WIZARDS!!! What the fuck's up with that????

I've just been reminded of LORD OF THE RINGS. Again, NOOOOO!!! Trolls and hobbits and shit? What the hell? I am someone who is actually quite offended that the words "sci-fi" and "fantasy" are so often lumped together in your bookstores and whatnot, because while I care a lot for the first, I care not for the second in any way, shape or form. Trolls. Give me a break.

Those are mine, tell me yours. Just killing time till the Torchwood trailer.

But Torchwood deals with ALIENS!!

Both are as unlikely as the other. It's just how far you wanna let your imagination be stretched, I guess.

Funnilly enough, I didn't go to the films to judge the hotness of the actors. I went for *gasp* the storylines and *gasp again* the film itself. As did many others.

For me, it helped that I read the books first. I was annoyed that they cast a pretty good looking girl as Hermione, but otherwise I was pleased to see a somewhat faithful adaptation of what I read onto the screen.

It's the same reason I went to see The Lord of the Rings films: I read the books first and wanted to see the adaptation of that writing onto the screen. I don't consider the films, though, a definitive version... not for what they left out (which I'm fine with), but what they changed. Freaking elves at Helm's Deep. Grr.

Possibly. I was still in senior school when they were still being published, and because my birthday is the end of October, and the films usedto come out in November, we always used to go and see the films for my birthday party thing.

Getting older, I found myself having more and more issues with JKR's writing, but I still loved them. And I was massively into the fandom, writing fanfic and everything.

I am your age and I sort of loved Harry Potter books. :/ Oh well. Different strokes for different folks.

(am with you on the actors, though)

Lost--I loved the first season, but quickly lost interest after.

I haven't tried any of the others. I am not a strong multitasker.

Hmm. When I first read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, I kept an online journal fairly faithfully. I looked it up: I was 23 at the time and it was given to me by a friendly coworker as something that I would enjoy. I think that having a friend who recommended it to me really helped motivate me to read it. I finished it in one evening and when I came into work the following morning, we spent quite some time talking about it. Four days later, I picked up the second book which was on the NYT bestseller list at the time and gobbled that in one day too.

I tried the first series of Lost and was just completely uninterested in any of the characters. I was quite excited about it, but hesitant as the last series like this that I watched was Twin Peaks (which I was MASSIVELY into) and we all know how that turned out.

I haven't tried any of the Stargate shows, but I am curious about it especially since a lot of my friends are in the fandom. I still love the movie in that "Oh gawd, this is so cheesy but wow is James Spader awesome eye-candy" sort of way.

(I am into Pushing Daisies and Harry Potter and, to a lesser extent, Heroes, but I find myself in the fringes of fandom for them.)

There are points where the plot holes are SO BAD that I start squirming in my seat. But then James Spader comes up on the screen and I'm ok. Hee! My partner recently watched the film again for roleplaying GM research (his current campaign has something to do with portals being opened up to different worlds as a device for the players to take turns GMing with the same characters) and I just kept staring at Spader's eye-lashes. They are so long and pretty! *sighs*

I don't watch any of those either. I ESPECIALLY agree with Heroes and Harry Potter. With Heroes, I want to like it but it's like a big soap opera that goes nowhere. There's never any resolution or reward, it just goes on and on. Good guys are bad but then go back to being good before going bad again. Dead people aren't really dead. Surprise ending. Surprise ending. God, I can only be teased so much!

Harry Potter. I've seen all the movies. Fell asleep during half of them. I don't know why, I just can't get into it.

Here's my contribution - Lord of the Rings. I'm sorry. I was bored out of my skull with all three. I think Clerks II had it right, when Randall says, "Those fuckin' hobbit movies were boring as hell. All it was, was a bunch of people walking, three movies of people walking to a fucking volcano." EXACTLY.

Yes. Now that I think about it, I think I like my fandoms spiced up with a bit of sex and taboo versus "safe" fandoms like Narnia, Harry Potter and LOTR. They're possibly just a bit too juvenile for me.

And my friends do give me shit for not liking Harry Potter or LOTR but I just CAN'T!

Randal!

I'm married to a LOTR fan (With books, films, etc. but thankfully, no sword replicas.)

I don't mind the films and I adore Elijah Wood, but cannot get into LOTR.

Ditto to the five in Tencrush's meme listing. And the series 24. I know it's probably good, but I'd have to marathon the entire thing over two days.

I'll watch the movies; I don't refuse to watch Harry Potter or LOTR, I just don't really get into it. At least I'm not alone because my husband can't get into them either!

I'll agree with you on the first 4. But I rather enjoy Harry Potter and LOTR, and harry potter wasn't for the hottness at all. I don't find them that attractive one. But I guess because I've read most of the LOTR books that the movies just didn't bother me.

I don't watch a lot of television, but I'm generally not too difficult to entertain. I love fantasy as much as science fiction and can deal with huge amounts of cheese if there's anything at all that I like about a movie or a series (hence my love of Torchwood, I'm sure).

But, yeah, Stargate - the various series - left me cold. And I did try to like them, because I loved the original movie. *shrugs*

I have no opinion on Pushing Daises or Lost. I haven't watched a minute of either show. I've seen maybe one episode of Heroes - enough to say I kinda liked the Japanese teleporter, but not enough to make me want to watch any more of the show as a whole.

I don't really care to try any of the Doctors Who that I haven't already watched. I love Four and Nine and like Ten. (I'll probably watch Eleven when his time rolls around, depending on RL, and I'll judge him after seeing him in action.) Past that, I just don't want to get into the Insane Contradictions and Complexity of it all.

I've made a point of avoiding Supernatural. I might love it. LOTS of folks on my flist do. But... *shrugs*

The first season or two of Star Trek: The Next Generation was unwatchable (though I eventually did see most of it). Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise pissed me off for various reasons (that would take forever to explain - I'll spare you). I didn't last two seasons with Voyager, but held on till the bitter end with Enterprise. (I loved TOS and DS9.)

I can't really think of any others (that I bothered to watch) that I actively disliked. Usually I can appreciate the humor in Really Bad SciFi or Fantasy. (And, if not, I guess I just can't be bothered to remember it at all.)

What does everyone else in the whole wide fucking world see in Lost? Because I don't see it.

I have never seen Heroes, or Supernatural, or any of that stuff. TV --with a few exceptions-- delights not me. And the stuff that does delight me tends to be crack-headed dandelion fluff like Torchwood, Rome, and The Tudors.

Sex in the City - never cared to watch it ... ever. Still haven't.

Seinfeld - never thought any of the people in the show were very nice. I couldn't quote a line to save my life. Just not interested.

I'm there with you on Heroes. Just thought it was 90210 with capes. I've never seen it.

Any of the Star Trek franchise AFTER the original Star Trek series. I like the classic. Never wanted to mess with my warm fuzzy feeling.

The Office - have never watched it, never wanted to. In fact all sitcoms are pretty much off my list. Comedy is such a hard thing to write/act/produce - so hard to please everyone. And the laugh track - hate it. I like my humor to come from snarky lines in a drama/scifi/action show.

I really like the Harry Potter series. Wonderful, imaginative, fun. And totally love the Lord of the Rings - great action, fun story, Aragon is hot, great lines.

All of which is to say, my hearty agreement on 1-3. THAT NARRATOR!

i tried with Lost too. but the more i watched it the more I got fucking LOST. a polar bear?! WTF.
