My thoughts on Eleven..

QUICK ASIDE: Demons! It's Ross Jenkins! Can't get over Glenister's accent, though.



I LOVE HIM. Seriously, I love him. For a number of reasons:

• He's on the wrong side of attractive. He really is, his face is all wrong and I love it. The fact that Who fandom will probably lose a shitload of squeeing fangirls when this guy takes over is making me very, very excited indeed, I will not miss them one single bit.


• He's 26!!! Knowing what we know about Moffat, and Moffat's opinion about a young Doctor, this guy has to have REALLY impressed him, and there's a part of me that can see why. I've actually never seen Smith in anything at all, but there was a brief two second clip of some girl asking him a question about how she looked or something and him answering "... yeah" after something of a pregnant pause that blew me away and made me laugh out loud.


• Yes, he looks like a bit of a toff. Is that actually that much of a problem? I quite like that sort of Pertwee-esque "I'm considerably awesomer than you" vibe, lookswise, and I think that's where he'll go with it. I love him. Have I mentioned that I love him?


• I can totally see this guy wearing a FREAKING RIDICULOUS OUTFIT and pulling it off. And the outfit is IMPORTANT, yo.


• Have I mentioned I trust Moffat? I think I have. If Moffat likes him, that'll do for me. Every opinion Moffat has ever expressed about what kind of guy he thinks the Doctor should be, about his favourite writers and favourite Doctors and favourite stories has always been quite similar to my own tastes and I just generally trust the man to deliver something I think I'll like and Approve Of. Whether or not anyone else likes it is something I can't really predict.


• Yah, I love him... I have happy, happy feelings about this guy. Trust me.

Admittedly, when I first found out who was 11, my first reaction was "Who?" and not really liking him based on his age and seeming lack of any major experience besides minor roles. But then I watched his interview....and started thinking maybe he's not so bad of a choice after all. It was the talking with his hands thing, I think.

At first I was like, okay, whatever. I wanted it to be someone I'd at least heard of.

But now I find myself getting strangely defensive of this guy. I think I could end up liking him a lot. Even though I am supposed to be weaning myself off Who, damnit.

I think I'm seeing people hating on him all over the place because he's not Tennant, and it's giving me the urge to convince everyone of his awesomeness (mostly because I've totaly gone off Tennant, because when I see Tennant all I can think of is Rose). ELEVEN IS AWESOMECAKES.

Yeah, I'm not getting bad vibes either. And he'll probably grow on me after a while too. He seems like he has a large capacity for comedic timing and overall ludicrousness which could really pay off. In a way he reminds me a bit of David Tennant, really. So I'll see what comes of it.

I like what I've seen of him so far. And if Stephen Moffet is saying that 11 will be darker than 10, that's even better. Let's just hope that the companion is also original and not in any way Rose like.

I agree about the Ten/Rose thing. In fact I'm starting to have resentful feelings towards Jack/Ianto for similar reasons. Why've already had posts that go along the lines of "how will Jack react to such a young Doctor and will it make Ianto jealous?" type posts.

OK, I've now watched his 30-second interview and as long as he keeps the finger-fluttery thing and the accent in his Doctor, I shall love him. Forever.

And provided he doesn't go all "ROSE!" on us, and his companion's halfway reasonable (DONNA!esque), I shall probably love him more than Tennant. *le gasp*

I agree with everything you've said. I still haven't seen the Confidential, just the Youtube interview, but from that alone he won me over.

Somebody said the "hands thing." That did it. Totally. HE WILL BE AWESOME!!

Also...Moffat...Moffat likes him...so he must be incredible...MUST!

Seeing Christopher reminded me of how good he acted it, how he played the last Timelord, he played it just on the edge. I have hopes that Moffat will explore the Time part of a Timelord more, its hold on the Doctor, that the Doctor isn't as free as he seems - it was the Doctor's comment in the Master stories, that as a child he looked into the vortex and ran away, that got me. Finally getting to the point of your post - there's something about Smith that I could seeing pulling that off. I'm waffling aren't I, but my brain won't sort it all out, sorry, hope this makes sense, but I think I'm saying I agree with you, there's something about him as long as the stories are strong.

All I watched was part of the Confidential interview just to see who he was and I have very high hopes. I don't care that he's young. He looks like he could be wonderfully quirky. Umm, not sure about losing squeeing fangirls because of him- really? I don't think he's less attractive than Tennant.

I find it highly amusing that this generation of Who fans think they are something special and unique.

The show has survived for 4 freaking decades, over 750 episodes, 10 different lead actors, over 35 different artist as Companions, countless writers... You'd think people would have a little more faith in the show by now.

The Eleven Era is going to be as great as the show always is, with flaws and perfection as always.

And everyone is going to love it and later pretend they loved this guy all along. So, it really is funny to read some OMGNOOO reactions, knowing they will delete these posts in 2010. :)
