As I've been reading around my friendslist, yesterday the Yes on 8 lobby filed briefs seeking to nullify the 18000-ish same-sex marriages that were carried out in California before Prop 8 passed on November 4th. My mind boggles, it really does.
I just can't fathom that Yes on 8 spent nearly 40 million dollars getting this proposition to pass, prompting No on 8 to spend nearly the same trying fruitlessly (and slightly uncoordinatedly, let's face it) to stop them. 80 million dollars in total. I just don't get it. I don't understand how anyone could go into a courtroom the week before Christmas and seek to make 36000 people unhappy because they believe that they have the right to dictate to those 36000 people who they should love and want to be with and take care of and grow old with. And I'm not even talking about being for or against gay marriage, I'm really not, I just don't understand that of all the awful, awful things in this world, all the economic woes, the people homeless and hurting and sick and miserable, why this? Doesn't it strike anyone at Yes on 8, in this Christian season of love and giving and togetherness, that it's just a little bit fucked up to be spending all your time and your effort and your money and your Christian spirit on this? 40 million dollars that could have fed and clothed and housed and cured thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. And what do you do with it? Spread hate, lies and misinformation, bully corporations, hire ever more expensive lawyers, and all to shut people out of a basic right and punish them for loving each other. Merry Fucking Christmas to you too, dudes. You've lost your way, seriously.
The world always depresses me at Christmas.

I have completely denounced Christianity and all those fairy tales in the last few years but I do know this should NOT be what Christianity is about. Not what they claim it's about. My god, there are tons of things in the bible that they ignore but they loooove to focus on teh gays. If Jesus came back, he would be so pissed that he'd rip all these homophobes new assholes, for real. It's about them being uncomfortable more than it is about actual religion. Either way, it's fucking wrong.
I still have YET to hear from a single person that said YES, their marriage was harmed by gays getting married. They need to ban divorce, methinks, if they're so against anything that hurts marriages. Of course I don't really want to ban divorce but if we all tried to ban divorce, they'd change their tune pretty darn quick. Or would at least come up with a different reason as to why gay marriage should be banned.
I think most of them are closeted. Where's a gay bomb when you need one?

Date: 2008-12-20 10:19 pm (UTC)There are much MUCH bigger threats to marriage than gay people, if they're not gonna spent the money on feeding and clothing people who need, at least spend it on ACTUALLY helping marriage.

Date: 2008-12-20 05:53 pm (UTC)Once again, they're going against their own bible by trying to break up these 18,000 existing marriages.
Christianity angers me, period. But cafeteria Christians piss me off even more (those who pick and choose what they want from the bible and leave the rest).
