The Satan Pit: HOORAY!!

Yeah, I changed my mind on this one, had I been able to watch it again earlier, I would have changed my mind earlier. I was blinded by Rose h8 and anti-ship.
It wasn't really about the ship at all, and it wasn't about the Rose>Universe thing either.
I concede that I was entirely wrong on that one. I actually quite enjoyed it.
My problem on first viewing boils down to this:
I am really letting myself get distracted by random bits of dialogue that are usually:
1) Badly written and flow badly in teh script resulting in
2) Them having a strangely OOC quality or looking really pastede on resulting in
3) Poor or confused delivery by Tennant resulting in
4) Me flailing about and hating Rose and the Ship and Rose in particular.
I sometimes have the feeling that ALL these bits of dialogue come staight from Rusty. And in this episode it was the "I believe in her" spiel that did it for me, it made me seethe and flail and generally h8 the episode alltogether.
On second viewing: The Doctor just talks a lot doesn't he? If I can just take everything he says with a pinch of salt, I think I'd be a lot happier. There were in fact NO shippy moments in this episode AT ALL. So: YAY for the Satan Pit.
I ignored the cheesy lines and realised that he smashed the vases and for all he knew he'd just condemned Rose to death and he was fine with it, he's made the decision and so be it.
LOL! Yay for decisive Ten.
Oh, and Ten is so goddamned hot when he's being decisive. Hell, yeah.
ETA: By the way: They need to stop making Ten say things like "Go down, go down" so much because it is seriously distracting. In a good way, but distracting nonetheless.

(And I think I got that straight away which is why I LOVED IT.)

Today I am blinded by Tenlust.
This is a better state of affairs.

Date: 2006-06-11 09:13 pm (UTC)I really, really think they make Ten talk way too much. But if you sort of gloss over his words and look at his actions, it turns out a lot better. :)
(Though I do think there was a bit of shippy stuff - the whole 'not-love-but-love' thing, but I have ship glasses, hee!)

Date: 2006-06-12 01:57 am (UTC)But I liked Talky Ten. It was a nice insight into this particular version of the Doctor. Especially when Ida asked him what he believed in, and he said 'That I haven't seen everything yet.'
And yeah! He did save the universe and let Rose sort herself out. And she did get rid of Toby, so, yay for Rose too!
:D

Date: 2006-06-13 01:09 pm (UTC)You know what I don't get in fandom (besides the rampant Rose-hate)? The tendency to cherry-pick whatever everyone doesn't like about the show and blame it exclusively on RTD. What proof is there, exactly, of any of this? Why do we need a scapegoat? And what exactly did he do to kill everyone's puppies?
Nothing personal, of course... but I'm seeing this everywhere and it's driving me nuts. ;)

oh god yes.

Date: 2006-06-13 01:16 pm (UTC)Anything that seems out of place, scriptwise, to me, well, it seems like the only explanation would be Rusty himself, trying to insert some important bits of continuity to fit with an overall arc that he is after all responsible for. Anything out of place scriptwise or plotwise just screams Rusty at me.
