They axed Bonekickers.

:(

Related speculatory musings... as I've said before, I don't think that bodes well for Torchwood either. They're similar in as much as they're both late night (future)BBC1 no-brainer, lightweight, cultsy loldramas, and the fact that the BBC isn't looking to continue that kind of show and with Bonekickers I think isn't the best sign. I was sort of hoping they were looking to create a slot on a certain weekday night specifically for this type of thing, and it looks like maybe they're not.

ETA: I CAN HAS DOLLY FOR ELEVEN NAO???

Wow! It is looking more and more likely the you were right about them canceling Torchwood after mini-series 3. Not that I ever doubted you; you were right about Ianto's manwhorespy backstory. I just hope that if they do cancel Torchwood that Gareth acts in a lot of different projects.

As much as I liked Bonekickers, I knew it wasn't going to get renewed. It had too many things against it (there were too many "professional" archaeologists up in arms over the show, and its inaccurate portrayal of the field of work....swear these people have no concept of fiction or fantasy).

But I worry about Torchwood too.....how they ended season 2 is going to hurt them very badly, in my opinion. You don't kill off 2 major characters in one blow and not do some kind of damage to the show (especially when some of the remaining characters honestly aren't that interesting or enough to support the show **waits for fans of certain characters to come and lynch her**). They are going to have to pull off a miracle with this mini season 3 we're getting for it to survive.

KIDDING.

Man, you're pessimistic. I like to live my life in a pink fluffy cloud of rainbow sparkle glitter ponies and Jack/Ianto twoo wuv and ten seasons of funfunfun. That way, real life seems more of a rich full fucking waster than it already is. You're missing out on the gonad-punching exhiliration of disappointment, my friend.

I know you did. :-( And we never got to see it over here, which is a shame. I'd love to laugh at bad archaeology.

Interesting that John mentions we find out more of Jack's secrets and more about bloody Gwen (what more do we need to know about that woman? She's the only one we've had info on).

'What more do we need to know about that woman?'

Apparently, she and Rhys are going to have some big 'crisis' *rolls eyes* I thought that's what their entire relationship is about. If their big crisis isn't that she's pregnant and she still wants to work in the field (Gwen is known for rational decisions, like that), I'll eat my hat.

As long as it doesn't involve her making cow eyes at Jack or wishing the baby was his, I could stand watching Rhys tear a strip off her.

Would Jack's baby be immortal?

I started to like Gwen when Rhys called her an evil bitch, then she cried over pizza and I admitted defeat. But then suddenly in S2 she's "settling" for Rhys and I'm like "WTF WOMAN RHYS IS AWESOME!"

Knowing the Torchwood writers; Rhys will probably faint during the delivery, Jack has to hold Gwen's hand (whilst she makes doe eyes at him and wishes the baby was his), and Ianto delivers the baby (that way Ianto gets to see Gwen and Jack bonding over the baby).

I want a TW s4, don't get me wrong, but if they actually tell a good story in s3 with a satisfying end then at least I'll be able to sort of move on. I'm not getting my hopes up for either of these outcomes, though.

Yeah, I find I like Torchwood the best when I don't get my hopes up, at all. Not that I'm bitter about Tosh being so underused, or anything. All I wanted was a Ianto/Tosh friendship.

Yeah. How about 'damn the show writers for keeping Tosh as a background character and killing her, damn you!!!' They could have done so much more with her, but instead they just kept giving her 'Torchwood killed my lover' storylines.

I find it interesting hilarious that the BBC statement says that they've decided to move on to other projects instead of writing a second series. Presumably because the BBC said something along the lines of "if you write more Bonekickers we will not only not commission it, we will commission hitmen".

I still can't work out whether Bonekickers was meant to be intentionally lulsy or not. I get the feeling the Beeb intended it to be srs bsns adult telefantasy.

I get a horrible feeling this Apparitions thing is going to be the same sort of thing, only with bonus church stuff to bring in the Dan Brown fans.

I hope there's a S4 for TW, but I know pretty much nothing about the BBC so I have no idea how they do things.

I do have to add, though - if it ends after S3, I want John Hart to work there. Even though it probably won't happen. *has not read spoilers so has no idea who is going to be working there*

I really don't see any reason to fear for TW, honestly. I don't think one slightly-similar-but-not-really show getting cancelled is any reason to fear for this one. We haven't had any really concrete insider's info or anything that the series is in danger and from what I've heard RTD and co. are expecting S3 to be very successful.

The ratings for Bonekickers started out good but soon plummeted. That's why it got cancelled. AFAIK, the ratings for Torchwood have been pretty good, or at least not as bad as Bonekickers.
Not saying that BBC won't cancel Torchwood, but I don't think the cancelation of Bonekickers is any indication.

Okay, decided to check the figures, and it looks like the Torchwood ratings were good, or rather good for BBC3 and BBC2 for the first season, but I couldn't find actual figures for the second season.
I do however remain optomistic.

I make it a point not to believe 70% of what comes out of Barrowman's mouth. He just needs to sit quietly and look pretty :)

But srsly though if they don't air TW soon I'm gonna go on a rampage.
I give them till March 09

Nah, I think Torchwood will be fine. For all its faults, Torchwood is more entertaining and better written than Bonekickers ever was. As long as series 3 gets decent figures, it's almost certain to get a series 4. The fact that it's a Doctor Who spin-off - whilst Bonekickers was a non entity - and the fact that the BBC have promoted it to BBC1, is encouraging.

I'm more annoyed about the airdate being pushed back again. According to JB on Radio London, it could be around June time instead of spring. And don't take that as a sign that the BBC aren't bothered about it. :)

As for the lack of Owen and Tosh being a disadvantage to series 3, I don't think so. Many people who were initially up in arms about their deaths have recently stated that several months later, they no longer have such a huge problem with it.

In fact one reviewer of the book Almost Perfect said that althougth they were initially pesimistic about not having Owen and Tosh in the story, they think that Jack, Gwen and especially Ianto came out stronger as a result.
