The Rift report and other shizzle...

THERE'S PROBABLY SPOILERS FOR SOMETHING IN HERE. AND RUDE WORDS. DON'T READ.
POINT THE FIRST: Why are we all being so fucking coy about this?
RTD IS LEAVING AFTER THE SPECIALS. Everybody knows it, everyone's read about somebody saying it to somebody else at The Rift and yes, that was possibly not supposed to be said and we won't get into who said it and who heard them say it, because plenty of people did, but surely everyone has by now heard and read about hearing that SOMEONE SAID that Rusty's out after the specials? Let's just take it as read and move on, yeah?
NUMERO TWO: Ditto for the Torchwood/Doctor Who finale crossover/appearance thing. Jesus, anyone who doesn't know about that by now is surely living under some sort of rock. Alien rock. Big fuck-off alien rock.
THREE: GARETH. I don't think even you realise how much Marsters wants everyone to know how fucking fabulous an actor he thinks you are (He's a bit gay for you, yes?). Putting that aside though, seriously dude, I'm reading between the lines of your little lament here, and it's not the first time you've lamented, let's face it, IF YOU'RE REALLY SERIOUSLY OUT OF WORK THIS SUMMER, may I just reiterate that YOU NEED TO FIRE YOUR AGENT. You need to fire your agent ANYWAY for their inability to even update your cv, but seriously, there is NO EXCUSE for you not to be dipping your wick into some Stateside shizzle. SOMEONE'S NOT PUTTING THE EFFORT IN. Cause, fuck me, it wouldn't be that much effort, honestly.
FOUR: THERE IS NO FOUR.
FIVE: I still don't like Martha and if she ends up in Torchwood permanently I may die of ennui.

As for number five: I'm hoping that Martha doesn't come to Torchwood (the rumor about Micky turned out not to be true) it will probably happen. The only reason I don't want her on the show is because I was hoping that Torchwood would be a show in it's own right and not JUST a Dr Who spin off. I wanted a Ianto-centric episode this series but I didn't get that ethier (From Out of the Rain DOES NOT count)

Date: 2008-04-30 11:51 am (UTC)I'm of the opinion that Martha is made of awesome, so I'm clearly in the minority here. Plus, anything that will force the writers to do a better job with Gwen, which I think this would.

Date: 2008-04-30 03:43 pm (UTC)I can't remember where I heard it. Personally I'm not going to believe anything until the BBC puts out a statement.
'Plus, anything that will force the writers to do a better job with Gwen, which I think this would.'
That is true. I really what to like Gwen, but the way she's written makes that very hard.
By the way, I like Martha, I'm just afraid that she'll get a lot of screen time and Ianto will become a background character like he was in series 1.

Date: 2008-04-30 12:59 pm (UTC)Yes, I'm entirely selfish about Ianto.

Date: 2008-04-30 01:54 pm (UTC)With previously established characters, they can skip a lot of that, and get straight to the stories. Ianto would get more screen time. Given that they had no problem putting Martha in the background for two of TW episodes, I don't see why she would have any larger a role than Burn if she were a regular. She'd just fall into the ensemble. It's not like Freema has a big name outside the Whoniverse. She's kind of in the same boat as Gareth.
By the way, have you heard that the rumor is now six episodes instead of five for the third season? Maybe they will just keep adding more until it's finally commissioned as a full 13. :D

Date: 2008-04-30 03:39 pm (UTC)You and me both. If it were up to me he'd have a big sweeping story arch that would span all of series 3. And a lot more love scenes.

Date: 2008-04-30 07:32 am (UTC)FA seems like a perfectly nice, young woman and Martha is a perfectly nice, young Mary Sue, but Torchwood is *dirty* and she does not belong there.
Also, Freema is kind of a shit actor. Leave her on Who. She's fits in there.

Date: 2008-04-30 10:50 am (UTC)#1 - RTD's leaving? Clearly, I'm not proficient in stumbling upon the latest Torchwood news & rumors in a timely manner.
#3 - Gareth should haunt the offices of HBO and Showtime.
#4 - I second that!
#5 - Oh, I do like Martha. I'd welcome her to the cast. Maybe then, she can be relegated to the light, comedic stuff, thereby giving Ianto the chance to be featured more as the kickass, intense boy we all know he is. No more Ianto as comic relief (I’m shaking my fists at you “Reset“ and “Dead Man Walking”).
On totally irrelevant note, how does one edit posts?

I've been wondering that myself. Is it a premium feature?

Date: 2008-04-30 01:02 pm (UTC)As for Ianto as comic relief, I like it! I'm happy to have him be "the fool," especially if it's done as deftly as it was in Sleeper.

Date: 2008-04-30 02:08 pm (UTC)Editing comments, however, is the new feature and it's only for the paid users. Frankly, I haven't used it much - but it's good for when you've forgotten something or realized you've made an ATROCIOUS spelling mistake.

Date: 2008-05-02 09:12 am (UTC)I'd quite like Ianto to be a companion, but then, I'd quite like Richard Hammond and Top Gear Dog to be companions.
