THERE'S PROBABLY SPOILERS FOR SOMETHING IN HERE. AND RUDE WORDS. DON'T READ.

POINT THE FIRST: Why are we all being so fucking coy about this?

RTD IS LEAVING AFTER THE SPECIALS. Everybody knows it, everyone's read about somebody saying it to somebody else at The Rift and yes, that was possibly not supposed to be said and we won't get into who said it and who heard them say it, because plenty of people did, but surely everyone has by now heard and read about hearing that SOMEONE SAID that Rusty's out after the specials? Let's just take it as read and move on, yeah?

NUMERO TWO: Ditto for the Torchwood/Doctor Who finale crossover/appearance thing. Jesus, anyone who doesn't know about that by now is surely living under some sort of rock. Alien rock. Big fuck-off alien rock.

THREE: GARETH. I don't think even you realise how much Marsters wants everyone to know how fucking fabulous an actor he thinks you are (He's a bit gay for you, yes?). Putting that aside though, seriously dude, I'm reading between the lines of your little lament here, and it's not the first time you've lamented, let's face it, IF YOU'RE REALLY SERIOUSLY OUT OF WORK THIS SUMMER, may I just reiterate that YOU NEED TO FIRE YOUR AGENT. You need to fire your agent ANYWAY for their inability to even update your cv, but seriously, there is NO EXCUSE for you not to be dipping your wick into some Stateside shizzle. SOMEONE'S NOT PUTTING THE EFFORT IN. Cause, fuck me, it wouldn't be that much effort, honestly.

FOUR: THERE IS NO FOUR.

FIVE: I still don't like Martha and if she ends up in Torchwood permanently I may die of ennui.

'Ditto for the Torchwood/Doctor Who finale crossover/appearance thing. '
Who doesn't know about that.

As for number five: I'm hoping that Martha doesn't come to Torchwood (the rumor about Micky turned out not to be true) it will probably happen. The only reason I don't want her on the show is because I was hoping that Torchwood would be a show in it's own right and not JUST a Dr Who spin off. I wanted a Ianto-centric episode this series but I didn't get that ethier (From Out of the Rain DOES NOT count)

The Mickey thing isn't true? Where did you hear that?

I'm of the opinion that Martha is made of awesome, so I'm clearly in the minority here. Plus, anything that will force the writers to do a better job with Gwen, which I think this would.

How do you figure getting Martha will force the writers to do a better job on Gwen? I didn't notice anything in the three Martha episodes to indicate that. But of course, I haven't watched much of Doctor Who, so maybe you see something in Martha in Doctor Who that could play off Gwen?

I can't remember where I heard it. Personally I'm not going to believe anything until the BBC puts out a statement.

'Plus, anything that will force the writers to do a better job with Gwen, which I think this would.'
That is true. I really what to like Gwen, but the way she's written makes that very hard.

By the way, I like Martha, I'm just afraid that she'll get a lot of screen time and Ianto will become a background character like he was in series 1.

THAT'S THE 'KN PROBLEM

From: [identity profile] rowanswhimsy.livejournal.com
I'm glad to hear Mickey was a rumor. If Martha comes onto TW, I fear that really puts paid to getting more screen time for Ianto as she will clearly get more thn her due in terms of time because of her position in the Whoverse. If they create two new characters, I can only hope one of them will get minimal screen time (or both, for that matter) so that Ianto can get more.

Yes, I'm entirely selfish about Ianto.

Date: 2008-04-30 01:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] erinnthered.livejournal.com
If you want Ianto to have a larger role, then two already established characters is preferable. With new characters they will have to spend more time introducing and developing them, and that time will be taken away from the already established characters.

With previously established characters, they can skip a lot of that, and get straight to the stories. Ianto would get more screen time. Given that they had no problem putting Martha in the background for two of TW episodes, I don't see why she would have any larger a role than Burn if she were a regular. She'd just fall into the ensemble. It's not like Freema has a big name outside the Whoniverse. She's kind of in the same boat as Gareth.

By the way, have you heard that the rumor is now six episodes instead of five for the third season? Maybe they will just keep adding more until it's finally commissioned as a full 13. :D

You and me both. If it were up to me he'd have a big sweeping story arch that would span all of series 3. And a lot more love scenes.

Good Lord, I love you, for every single thing on this list is ABSOFRACKINGLUTELY TRUE. Especially the last point. I hope to God that TPTB *aren't* listening to the fans, because Martha was a crushing bore on Torchwood, and she'd cause me to commit seppuku if she became a regular on Torchwood.

FA seems like a perfectly nice, young woman and Martha is a perfectly nice, young Mary Sue, but Torchwood is *dirty* and she does not belong there.

Also, Freema is kind of a shit actor. Leave her on Who. She's fits in there.

3. Dr.Who/Torchwood is a pretty damn big TV show with arguably one of the British shows with the most international presence... and if being a regular on one of those gigantic franchises isn't going to bring you any work during their hiatus, then it's either a) you're not going to make it or b) yeah, indeed your agent needs to be fired

OR, you're burned out from working a season and don't feel like doing anything for a while except play with your band, and joke about there being no work at cons so you don't look like a lazybones.

A break is one thing, but if he's so burned out he needs 6 months off after that, then maybe he needs to reconsider his profession. You're only as good as your last job, and casting directors will wonder. Especially if he continues to protest as much as he has been.

Re

#1 - RTD's leaving? Clearly, I'm not proficient in stumbling upon the latest Torchwood news & rumors in a timely manner.

#3 - Gareth should haunt the offices of HBO and Showtime.

#4 - I second that!

#5 - Oh, I do like Martha. I'd welcome her to the cast. Maybe then, she can be relegated to the light, comedic stuff, thereby giving Ianto the chance to be featured more as the kickass, intense boy we all know he is. No more Ianto as comic relief (I’m shaking my fists at you “Reset“ and “Dead Man Walking”).

On totally irrelevant note, how does one edit posts?

And FX, and AMC, and USA for good measure.

I've been wondering that myself. Is it a premium feature?

Yes, definitely to the FX and USA networks. Could you imagine a Ianto like character as Monk's new assistant?! LOL! And I would love to see Gareth work with Glen Close in “Damages.” With the exception of classic movies, I'm not familiar with AMC's programming.

I do believe editing posts is a feature available to paid members only.

As for Ianto as comic relief, I like it! I'm happy to have him be "the fool," especially if it's done as deftly as it was in Sleeper.

Editing posts has always been a feature on LJ. You just go to the "Post" menu and find where it says "edit entries", then you just select the date of the entry you want to edit. If you made more than one entry on a date, then you'll just select which one.

Editing comments, however, is the new feature and it's only for the paid users. Frankly, I haven't used it much - but it's good for when you've forgotten something or realized you've made an ATROCIOUS spelling mistake.

Shit, man, I seriously hadn't heard that first one, although it comes as no surprise. That's what I get for skimming 100000000 Rift con reports for the dirty bits.

I'd quite like Ianto to be a companion, but then, I'd quite like Richard Hammond and Top Gear Dog to be companions.
