Re Jack being buried...I like this explanation. Fits with how I was thinking, which is kind of based on the Highlander series - when an immortal dies, if he is still in the same situation that killed him (ie...being buried), he stays dead until the situation changes. I can't imagine that Jack would've been able to come back to life without air, and the air would've been gone pretty quickly. Which is why I'm not upset over the fact that Jack seemed pretty ok mentally when he came back...if he was dead until TW dug him up then it would just be like waking up. The same is true of being frozen for 100 years. The episode with Tommy indicated that it was just like waking up the next day, instead of being aware that a whole year had passed. In that case, from Jack's perspective, it's only been like a couple of days since he left and not the 2000+ years it actually was. No explanation for the coat though...it's got to be magic just to survive that long!
