I agree with siding with Gareth on Jack being Ianto's *first* real experience with a man.
We know from the books that he has been attracted before and that his mother suspected when he was 14 that he was interested in boys too. The books are canon, it's the timeline as to where they fit that is debatable, as they are looked over by the producers.
It's the same with the Captain's Blog on BBCA - it has been confirmed (I can't find the link though, but I have seen it... honest....) that they are supplied by the TW Production staff so we can take them as canon background as well.
