Yeah, my brain is English, too. I spent the years between 6 and 12 in America, so I did most of my actual LEARNING in English, and if you ask me "Wat is zeven keer acht" I REALLY HAVE TO translate that into "seven times eight" before I can tell you the answer because dutch numbers mean absolutely nothing to me.
Funnily enough, though, my Dutch grammar is IMPECCABLE and far superior to that of my peers in the same age group, as is my vocabulary, but that's because between those ages I only spoke Dutch with my parents and not with other children, and both of my parents' Dutch is of a reasonably intellectual calibre.
