Oh, I haven't buried anything, I know the rumours of which you speak, and I'm secretly hoping the entire relationship will redeem itself in the next two episodes and possibly even some of the issues being discussed here will be addressed.
The downplaying is one of the things I have a problem with, though. I see the downplaying on Ianto's part as embarrassment and a reluctance to admit how he feels, possibly because he knows Jack doesn't feel the same way, that's how it's coming across to me. Jack's joking about Ianto is the one that really gets me, though, because I feel it puts Ianto firmly in the "I had a boyfriend whose nostrils would flare"/twin acrobat sexual conquest category. It's the ones Jack DOESN'T joke about, or even bloody mention (strangely all women) that seem to be the people he cares about. Making it seem to me that Ianto is not a candidate for a serious relationship, and Jack is stringing him along despite knowing full well that a serious relationship is what Ianto is after.
