I'm sure it was aimed at fandom, maybe to goad RTDs supporters into poking his detractors along with him. Good times. (Though it may have been Moran doing the goading. I'm kind of confused right now about who actually wrote and/or gave the acceptance blurb.) But, as it looks like GDL did get his own award - for the Ianto character - immediately after RTDs Episode 5 award, could it also have been intended to give GDL an extra boost? If so, it's a completely Jackass way to go about it.
I hope more than one person comes forward to lay out exactly what happened, with possible interpretations. The showboating of Egotism and Clout makes for a lousy joke, on its own. And if it was intended to be followed by a 'Ianto' award, it's really not much better - especially when most folks are going to see that acceptance blurb without the follow-up/real?punchline.
