Midshipman Frame is pretty awesome though. Perhaps it's just a meaningless shag for Jack to try and blot out his man!pain. Or just a quick sweeping under the carpet of any kind of emotional fallout. It does indicate that the Doctor had some knowledge of what went on in CoE, and thought Jack needed a "new piece of ass" to help him get over it.

The Master is still there for Moffat to pull him out as a handy plot device if he cocks up royally.
