Its all a joke, cause everyone is sick of Matheson's angst.
Matheson thinks he's shooting himself, but its a cap gun. The others break in (including daughter) and a pie throwing melee ensues. Everyone is fat and happy.
Then the daughter chokes to death on a cherry pit that the psycho has secretly hidden in one of the pies and activates through the Interwebs.
