And, um...you can be homosexual and still be homophobic. It's called self-hatred, and gays are not exempt from it any more than straights are.

Not related to fandom at all, but I have been a witness to this exact statement. One of my good friends who was a lesbian who passed away a couple years ago (due to a brain aneurysm)had a bit of self hatred towards herself her first semester of college. She didn't know what she wanted, she found a girl, and realized that this made her feel the most comfortable in her skin.

We had mutual friends in our sorority who in turn became slightly nasty towards my friend because they were afraid. They were afraid of themselves, because each one of them was insecure with their own sexuality.

These girls who were the ones making the homophobic remarks were the ones in turn who turned out to be lesbians or lesbian tendencies, and their remarks towards my friend were worse than anything any of us straight people could have said.
