Much like Rose, I think Gwen actually suffers a lot from what you said earlier, which is the over-the-top PR about how great she is. Gwen was very much the focus of the S1 promotional machine and she didn't really live up to the hype surrounding her character. She is in that respect not the most helpful example of what I mean about RTD's telling-not-showing tendencies, though, as I've said, my point about Jack still stands and my point about RTD's writing is still one I adhere to. I might write something about it laters, because RTD's dependence on the other-characters-who-idolise-the-main-character-and-tell-us-how-great-they-are-method is one of the prime reasons I think Ianto's going to cop it.
