No, I haven't, to answer your question, that's why I'm asking if it's a Torchwood thing or a slash thing or a gay fiction thing. I don't doubt that anal sex is an important part of a lot of gay sexual relationships but I'm also well aware that, especially among the twenty/thirty-something generation, it is most definitely not. If, as you say, it's a formula that even gay male authors tend to go with, then that's cool, but my question is specifically about slash, written by female authors, and whether or not the tendency to revert to penetration as the be-all and end-all of sexual encounters is a heteronormative hangup, and based solely on the idea that being penetrated is the closest one can get to one's partner and implies some sort of spiritual attachment (and the reason I ask that is because in this pairing specifically, it is the romantic attachment, and not the sexual relationship, that is in doubt on screen, as opposed to most other slash writing which involves getting two characters who aren't fucking on screen to fuck each other. I guess I'm wondering if there's a specific tendency in this fandom to use fic as a means of getting two characters who ARE fucking on screen to love each other.)

I'm with you on the tired top Jack trope, I thought it would die down eventually, but Jack continues to be mostly the dominant and indeed penetrating partner in most fics. I find it tedious and unimaginative, because it seems to me to be such an easy conclusion to jump to based on their working relationship, and the idea that their work dynamic would carry on into the bedroom just seems... dull to me. That's why I love a Dom!Ianto fic, myself, yeah.
