Oh yeah, I agree that it needs to move in a new direction-- S2 was way too inconsistent. But I think their relationship needs to get stronger before it ends-- while I don't see them ever having a conventional relationship per se, I'd like some sense that they really are partners who rely on each other, and I'd like them to have a short time, at least, of being genuinely happy with each other. At the same time, however, the show can't sustain itself if everyone's happy, so my hope is that: 1. In S3, Jack and Ianto grow closer. 2. Early in S4 they are happy, and we get to see them together and relying on each other in a way we never did in S2. 3. Towards the middle of S4, they begin to drift apart, as a natural thing, but it doesn't end until the end of S4, when (stealing Tencrush's idea) Ianto goes off with the Doctor. :P (Or dies D:).
