'Rhys/Gwen is boring, but also safe and apparently necessary to prove how wonderfully in love they are...' Yeah, it's kind of funny that the writers keep talking about what a 'normal' relationship Rhys/Gwen have, when you consider that she's lied to him (as far back as the very first episode), cheated on him (just because the writers seem to have forgotten Owen/Gwen doesn't mean I have), ret-conned him and used him as a doormat (if Jack had said he wanted her in KKBB, Gwen would have taken that ring off so fast).
