I'm not talking about Jack's connections with Gwen here, they don't bother me. I'm talking about the writing. Writing's all about choices, and in TW, the choice seems to have been made to show us Gwen's downtime with Rhys, but never mirror that in any downtime Jack has with Ianto. As you yourself say, we have to presume that Jack spends his downtime with Ianto doing whatever they do, having a beer, not talking about their feelings, man stuff, whatever. But they have chosen not to show us that and leave deliberate gaps in that story, that they have the chosen to fill in in the Captain's Blog, which I would assume is only read by about 5% of the viewing audience of millions, if that. It's the inconsistency in tone that bothers me. The Blog for Adrift especially bothered a lot of people, myself included, because the line "I held onto Ianto as tightly as could..." seemed inconsistent in tone with the level of affection and closeness we'd been shown on screen. It just didn't seem to a lot of people like a thing that would have actually happened between the two people as they had up until that point been presented to us on the show.
