But even before Fragments aired, it seemed very apparent to me that Jack has always trusted Ianto a lot. I twigged to it the moment I saw Ianto locking up the glove in Everything Changes. What Fragments added was that Ianto was trusted that much even though he was the most recent addition to TW3, and most likely had been there less than half a year at that point.
I'm not sure even I buy a 100% the interpretation I used in my story of Jack being aware of some level of subterfuge and allowing it. I've read some wonderful totally oblivious!Jack stories that I found very believable. Both are equally plausible possibilities in my mind, and that is why I like reading fanfic -- I find that with fanfic, it's easier to entertain two contradictory positions at once, while in discussions like this one, I think people tend to end up taking sides.
