It seems to be partly a GDL thing, doesn't it? I mean, that deliciously obscene icon of yours with his hand holding the mike wire at the top of his thigh... ngah. But he's an intelligent actor; certainly it's partly a decision.
I agree that Ianto is not the woob he is often taken for. He's got some bad emotional problems, sure, but he's not a tender violet. He cries when he needs to, but so too does Jack, and no one makes Jack out to be a woobie.
Ianto is a bit toppy with Jack, which is wonderfully flavored by all the times we've seen Ianto drop his head to Jack's shoulder in embraces: End of Days, Adam, Something Borrowed, Exit Wounds.
It would thrill me to see the embrace turned around just once, with Jack burrowing into Ianto's shoulder. I dream of just the tiniest hint of h/c in the next season, of Ianto taking care of Jack after 2,000 years of torture.
