Was Jack REALLY buried for ALL THAT TIME, how often did he die and and how did this affect him?
The possible answers to this question really shouldn't make me have to bury my face in my hands so my colleagues don't hear me laughing!

I think Ianto would be wary, but not outright hostile, with the Doctor. Having less to do with his Torchwood One past, he'd need both the Doctor and Jack to convince him that Jack's not about to take off with the Doctor and leave Ianto behind again.
Agreed 100%!!!
(Personally, I think Ianto would make an excellent Companion. Perhaps RTD needs to make a spinoff of his spinoff.)

Ianto meets the Doctor? Instahate. For the Doctor, Ianto = Torchwood 1. For Ianto, the Doctor = Torchwood's enemy plus the guy for whom Jack ran out on him. The tension culminates in a bit where Ianto was going to shoot the Doctor in an extremely hardcore and manly fashion like he was going to shoot Cpt John, followed by complex makeup sex.
As for the Victorian lesbians: quite possibly a bisexual woman and a straight woman, in which case, they were all at it like rabbits.
I am quite tempted to write the obv Hartmann/Jones filth. (If someone has already done this, links pls pls pls.)
PS Coat = unstable molecules.

I will now march in with no previous affiliation and say your polls are made of WIN and so are your fanalyses and I AM FRIENDING YOU RIGHT NOW.
And:
IF Ianto were to meet the Doctor, how would they be together?
Ditto
thefannishwaldo.
THE FOLLOWING QUESTION AGAIN FOR THE PURISTS: Jack/Ianto, where are they at right now?
NONE OF THE ABOVE. They are committedly shagging and have not yet addressed the fact/concluded that it is (at least somewhat) serious (but know it is, deep down in their squishy hearts).
Was Jack REALLY buried for ALL THAT TIME, how often did he die and and how did this affect him?
I know not. Need to see more fic exploring these possibilities before making a decision, or think on it further. But his coat is magic.

The Doctor would like Ianto, but Ianto would be jealous like whoa and get all petty and put him down and generally remark that he looks better in a suit and roll his eyes a lot.
You have basically just written the outline to my huge fic-o-d00m that's currently at 5,000 words and is only halfway through IN 36 WORDS!!
I hate you ;) *grin*

If I were writing the Ianto meets the Doctor episode, Ianto would eye-roll every five minutes and snark non-stop. The Doctor would be all WTF at this pesky human who's so blatantly NOT impressed with him, then he would get intrigued, and then he would get interested, at which point Jack would get jealous and physically grab Ianto away from the Doctor. At which point Ianto would eye-roll at Jack and send both Jack and the Doctor to their rooms. And they would both go. Meekly. With their tails between their legs. You get the picture.
Okay, I'm going to explain my answer to the Ianto/Doctor question.
Now, I needto preface this by saying I'm very new to the DW fandom, but I've been with Torchwood since day one. This leaves me much more comfortable with Ianto than the Doctor.
From what I've seen of the Doctor, I don't think he'd dislike Ianto, but I don't think he'd really notice him at first. He'd think 'oh, so that's the guy shagging Jack' and move on. I think, after he learns about what happened to him at Canary Wharf, and with Lisa, he'd be intrigued. He'd hate that Ianto took such a risk keeping Lisa alive when the Doctor had sacraficed so much to rid the world of the Cybermen, but he'd respect the humanity of the act.
Ianto? Oh, he'll be pissed of at the Doctor for so many reasons...the top two being.
- I think, rightly or wrongly, he'd be upset that the Doctor didn't do more to end the Cyberman attack quicker or prevent it completely. I don't think Ianto would be all that rational on this subject and wouldn't really be able to see the Doctor's side of things. Grief does that to people.
- I think he would be jealous of the fact that Jack has pined for the Doctor for so very long, and chose to just leave Ianto for him at the drop of a hat. Ianto's smart, I can't believe that he hadn't figured out that Jack was waiting for the Doctor. Jack's changes in the mission statement of Torchwood after Canary Wharf would've been a huge red flag.
Hope that all makes sense, it's early here and I haven't had my coffee yet....

I love these polls!

IF Ianto were to meet the Doctor, how would they be together?
Though I chose 'The Doctor would like Ianto, but Ianto would be jealous like whoa and get all petty and put him down and generally remark that he looks better in a suit and roll his eyes a lot', I don't really think Ianto feels threatened by Jack's relationship with the Doctor, though I do think he'll be jealous and roll his eyes a lot, just like he did with John. I think, all in all, he may be more stand-offish than anything else.
Jack/Ianto, where are they at right now?
I chose 'Committed, serious and monogamous, because I think they are.
I think your choice between being either monogamous or polyamorous is strange though. One does not rule out the other, since you can love more than one person while you're still monogamous. Unless you meant polygamous, of course.
I had no idea what to fill in for the buried question. Personally, I think he died over and over again, but with all the earth stuck in his throat and other cavities, he might not have been 'back alive' enough to notice (am I making sense?)
As for the loopy part ... he's bound to have gained a fear for being stuck in small spaces ...
The rest *shrugs* I really have no idea

They'd immediately bond due to something else I shall explain in the comments.
The Doctor would bond with the whole team. He's made his peace with/bonded with Jack and the team would be, to him, a part of Jack. Ianto would bond with the Doctor because who wouldn't? And also because he would sense an odd kinship with him. He knows that Torchwood's policy against the Doctor was a lie and I think by now he's over Jack's running off in search of, so the remaining option is to bond. Besides, they could compare emo moments from Canary Wharf, something Ianto can't do with anyone else.
Other. Jack Harkness LAUGHS at your silly little preconceptions about time and space. Jack Harkness and all the writers!
These polls are marvelous.

That's my take on Ianto meeting the Doctor too. There would probably be eyerolling and snarky comments (c'mon it's Ianto), but I think they'd get along great.
Re: Ianto/Doctor...
Ianto would be suspicious at first, but not necessarily hostile. (He's immediately suspicious but not immediately hostile towards John, who rapidly earns his ire and doesn't get forgiven even when he turns into something approaching a good guy.) A lot of how Ianto treats the Doctor will depend directly on how he treats Jack. If he treats Jack the way he did in Utopia, well, game on. If he treats Jack with kindness and respect, Ianto will treat him with respect.
As far as Canary Wharf, depends on how well Ianto knows what happened...whether or not he knows (or knows now) that it wasn't the Doctor's fault what happened and that he did the best he could in a very bad situation. I don't see that being a problem; one might assume that he and Jack have, you know, discussed the Doctor at some point.
The TARDIS will love Ianto immediately and give him fresh hot coffee as often as he wants. The Doctor will be vaguely annoyed at this.

Whether Ianto is going to get on with the Doctor is probably going to depend on how much of the End of the Universe incident Ianto knows about. If all Ianto knows is that Jack came back more emotionally available, he and the Doctor will probably bond over Jack's sluttish ways. If Ianto knows about how Jack is supposedly WRONG, he won't be at all pleased with the Doctor. If Ianto knows just how many of Jack's deaths are concentrated into the Year that Wasn't, the Doctor should probably get right back in the TARDIS.
Was Jack REALLY buried for ALL THAT TIME, how often did he die and and how did this affect him?
Jack took advantage of scaring the bloody hell out of a Roman construction crew to escape from the grave. I know I wouldn't be a reliable narrator to the bastard who buried me in the first place. He's probably still a bit traumatized from the burial and the slow path.
Ianto's past as a shoplifting drifter, TRUFAX?
All the cool Time Lords were doing it.
Ianto's had sex with Yvonne Hartman, right? Right?
Please pass the brain bleach.

Two more I forgot to comment on.
Ianto's had sex with Yvonne Hartman, right? Right?
You just undid all the good all those other mental images did. I am now horrified. Had you said JACK I would have been horrified. (Yvonne was such a strangely inhuman character to me...)
Ianto's past as a shoplifting drifter, TRUFAX?
There is another possibility. True but not complete. The records were partially destroyed when the Torchwood One fell, so Jack never got to see how much technical training Ianto had received. Which is why the record didn't impress him at all, something which seems to have confused Ianto until he just broke down and demonstrated it. And why no one suspected him of being capable of keeping a cyber conversion unit functioning. And how he got to know Dr. ? (I am only partway through my first coffee of the day. The Asian fellow Lisa killed in "Cyberwoman.") Really, how would a mere junior researcher have gotten to be quite so friendly with someone like that?
Coat=magic. Glad to see someone else acknowledge that.
Still love the polls.

I have this mental picture of the lusty mad scientists of Girl Genius yelling "For Science!" as they are prone to do whenever the possibility of sex occurs. http://girlgeniusonline.com
Re: Doctor/Ianto
I think the Doctor would treat him the way he treated Mickey. A companion’s boyfriend but not someone the Doctor would be close to. Ianto being from TW1 probably won’t help his opinion of Ianto either.
Ianto for his part, knows that the Doctor isn’t to be blamed for what happened at Canary Wharf, but can’t help but feel disgruntled that he didn’t stay for the aftermath and try to help those that could still be saved (i.e. Lisa), despite understanding they couldn’t really be saved. Also I think it depends when they meet, if it’s soon after losing Tosh and Owen, he would be very apprehensive about anyone that could take Jack away.
I’m guessing he doesn’t know that the Doctor thinks Jack is wrong, otherwise, it’s probably ‘shoot on sight’.
Re: Jack’s being buried: The ring wasn’t only a beacon, when it was combined with the (magic) coat it created a time-delayed-thin force field around Jack, this kept Jack (and the coat) intact and no more damaged then he already was.

OH MY GOD WHERE IS ALL THE YVONNE/IANTO
Hi. I have friended you, because you give great meta and also use super skientific polls in fandom (my real life job is research analyst. I once did a fandom poll and used SPSS on the data (and found indeed that the less educated and straighter a person, the less realistic their pr0n scenes were (het and slash). Which is sort of a "durrrr" but now it is a FACT, at least in my skewed sample in my skewed methodology. *lalalahophop*)
Anyway. Also, you seem to have originated supermanwhorespy thing, also Ianto's family being DEAD, and many other fannish delusions-turned-reality which suggests you are either super intuitive, rilly SMART, or you in fact write for Torchwood and any of those three reasons are reasons for me to read you.
Also your kid is seriously cute.
So hi.
I voted in both polls and both times chose things I don't really believe, just cause I think they could be possible. Me, I'm all about Ianto as a timelord baby with his timelord self hidden in a stopwatch somwhere, raised by dead, welsh people. Or he came through the rift from planet Vintage Nostalgia. Which is why he slept with Yvonne Hartman and went to work for TW, cause if it is alien, it is hers. For real.
As for Jack, I am choosing to believe he died a few times and then stayed dead. However I think Chinball-o-fluff probably did mean for him to die over and over for 1800 years and is leaving that great gaping plothole of missing insanity, drooling, claustrophia and fear of the hothouse to whoever takes over from here. And because it is too much to contemplate it will just be ignored, lalalalala.
And the coat's magic. and as much as the idea of Jack dominating woobie Ianto until he passes out from ecstacy appeals, I saw Ianto's the dom in reality. If they were actually real, I mean.

Another good poll, here are my additional comments on some of the questions :
THE FOLLOWING QUESTION AGAIN FOR THE PURISTS: Jack/Ianto, where are they at right now?
I think Jack and Ianto are both very committed to the realtionship, I just think they don't realize how committed the other is. At this point, I think they are monogamous.
Does Jack sleep?
I answered #2 which I think is overall how I feel. However, I think he and Ianto are spending more time together overnight and I like to think when he is sleeping with Ianto, he sleeps more, not because he's worn out [LOL] but because he is more at peace.
If Ianto were to meet the Doctor, how would they be together?
I answered # 5 which fits closest to how I feel. I think the Doctor would like Ianto but I think Ianto would be wary and somewhat jealous. But, I don't see him putting the Doctor down or making snide remarks and facial gestures.
Was Jack REALLY buried for ALL THAT TIME, how often did he die and and how did this affect him?
I answered #4 because I do think he was buried all that time and died only once or twice....not sure I think it was the MAGIC coat. I just think, buried with no air, he really couldn't have come back to life over and over. If there were air, yes, but no air, I don't think so.
That was fun, thanks !

Re Jack being buried...I like this explanation. Fits with how I was thinking, which is kind of based on the Highlander series - when an immortal dies, if he is still in the same situation that killed him (ie...being buried), he stays dead until the situation changes. I can't imagine that Jack would've been able to come back to life without air, and the air would've been gone pretty quickly.
Which is why I'm not upset over the fact that Jack seemed pretty ok mentally when he came back...if he was dead until TW dug him up then it would just be like waking up. The same is true of being frozen for 100 years. The episode with Tommy indicated that it was just like waking up the next day, instead of being aware that a whole year had passed.
In that case, from Jack's perspective, it's only been like a couple of days since he left and not the 2000+ years it actually was.
No explanation for the coat though...it's got to be magic just to survive that long!

LOVE this set of questions, so funny. My completely arbitrary opinions:
Ianto doesn't really speak Welsh - grew up in Cardiff not the Valleys, doesn't go into as heavy an accent as Gwen when he gets upset.
Ianto would NOT like the Doctor -- took Jack away (Are you going back to HIM?) and Canary Wharf.
Jack/Ianto on the D/s front -- after 2/13 on top of everything else, I don't think Jack's into bondage games any more
On being buried - I went for "the writers are lazy and hate us" because that whole storyline was all kinds of stupid and ridiculous.
On the TW dykes -- oh yes, he was so their sex toy.
Either Ianto tampered with his record to make himself less intimidating, or he got his job at Canary Wharf the same way he tried to get a job from Jack: tight jeans and excellent coffee. I can totally see sex with Yvonne (actually, I think Yvonne outdid Jack in the sex-with-employees department, all the pretty boys)

OF COURSE THE WRITERS HATE US AND ARE LAZY. THIS IS NOT OPINION, THIS IS FACT.
I think Ianto would INITIALLY bond with the Doctor over suits AND Jack's sluttiness, but I think the Doctor's ADHD would bug the crap out of him. All that TARDIS lurching about would make him keep spilling his coffee on his beloved suits, and add to that the above jealousy and eye-rolling at Jack's mooniness over him.
Do The Young Hip Welsh City Kids Of Today generally speak Welsh, or is it just sort of a you-learn-it-in-school type of thing? Because whatever they do, I think that's probably what Ianto does.
Ianto is SO the dom. No-brainer. Jack's really a much better follower (Doctor Who) than leader (Torchwood). Plus Ianto likes being in control, and you know Jack sees his leadership as a big hassle and strain and likes to escape and forget. Plus Ianto's mind is a hundred times more devious and filthy than Jack's. Still waters run deep.
And I think even despite Jack's omniflirtatiousness, there are some people he just wouldn't do, and the evil alien-killing Victorian lesbians are two of those people.

I think he would have gotten at least the basic of Welsh in school but picked up more either through elderly relatives or just his compulsion to know things. The latter tends to tie in w/ my belief that has more than a bit of an eidetic memory.

my mate Jonny reckons Ianto got caught stealing a mars bar... I would so love it if that were true :D
These polls have made my workday a lot easier to endure (real estate, nothing going on, you know the drill...).
Am I the only one that can really picture shoplifting Ianto...after Gareth's portrayal of Ianto saying no to Jack in End of Days, that boy was totally susceptable to peer pressure...I imagine he had one very cool (not totally un-Jack like) friend who was a bit of a rebel and Ianto did it, convinced that he could impress said friend, like the way he tried on several personas in Fragments (I'm picturing cassette tapes from an indpendent music store)
And drifter Ianto...I'm feeling that, he basically said that Torchwood gave him meaning in Adam, I wouldn't be surprised if orphan, drifter Ianto came to London and met Lisa who hooked him up with the job at Torchwood in the first place.

'Ianto's had sex with Yvonne Hartman, right? Right?'
That's how he got the job in the first place- those tight jeans had to come from somewhere. Where is all the Yvonne/Ianto fic, it intrigues me in a vaguely disturbing way.
'IF Ianto were to meet the Doctor, how would they be together?'
I think that is really depends on how the Doctor treats Jack.
I'm convinced that the TARDIS will love him- all he have to do is give her a good thorough cleaning, she'd love the attention.
