While I'm disabled...

God, I have an incredible urge to take a random sampling of Jack/Ianto fanfic and work out the ratio of Jack versus Ianto as to who takes it up the arse. But where would I take a random sampling from? And, mostly, it would only depress me because I think that if I did it, I'd probably prove that, despite canonical evidence to the contrary, Ianto is invariably the crying, helpless, penetrated wife.

I did that thing once where I worked out how many and what sorts of orgasms Rose had in Ten/Rose fic. I think I left it on my work computer, though. I'm sad about that. They were magical and plentiful and vaginal and reading 50 Ten/Rose fics in a day put me off fic for about a year. Which was a bonus.

There's a fic in which everyone, even Gwen and Tosh rape, and then retcon, him.

Oh my God yes, I remember that one.

There's a fanficly fascination with Ianto!rape which leaves me wishing I had an advanced degree in social psychology. Half the time it's Jack as the rapist, the other half it's multiple strangers.

I keep trying to figure out why he's so feminized. Is it because he's an emotional guy? Cries and stuff? But so is Jack. Is it simply that he's physically smaller than Jack? Younger than Jack?

As far as canon itself presenting Ianto as feminine, I think "Cyberwoman" does that as well as any fanfic could.

Side rant point: when Ianto is shown having other love interests, they're invariably male; as if he's been magically de-bisexualized by the magic of Jack's penis. With the side effect of being magically de-masculinized as well. He's not apparently man enough to put it to the ladies any more.

Though I have to say I read a LOT of fic, more or less indiscriminately, and I've seen lots of bottom!Jack. No matter how poorly written, he looks good there. At home.

That's always bugged me too. I think I've only seen one fic in which Ianto's with a woman after Jack. There's an entire series of threesome stories where jack and Ianto are having it on with a woman, but she's sorta there as accessory to Jack/Ianto than an equal participant, no matter how it's written.

When it comes to Ianto in fic, I don't think any of us will really be happy with how he's portrayed.

Yeah, the number of Ianto!rape fics is alarmingly high. Makes you wonder what it is that calls for sadism there, too.

As far as Cyberwoman goes, I'd say that probably Ianto was "harassed" by Lisa as well :D No really, it' would be interesting to know how things were between them, before. Lisa was older than Ianto, right?

Is it just because he's pretty and desirable, so everyone automatically wants him?

The funny thing in canon is that no female character show the least possible interest in Ianto. No Gwen, Tosh or even Suzie. Nor do the guest characters. No, they all go after Owen. Or Jack. Then John shows up and he's all "eyecandy"...

[identity profile] 51stcenturyfox.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point. John admires/hits on everyone though. Including pets.

[personal profile] jo02 2008-12-12 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I love that John hits on pets!
I don't know what it says about me but I just find that so amusing *g*

Ianto is sexy in a young and pretty way, which is probably why many fic writers put Ianto in the female role.

I hate the fact that in both canon and in fan fic, Ianto rarely has another love interest apart from Jack. As much as I love Janto fic, I'd like to read more Ianto/Tosh and Ianto/OFC fic where Jack doesn't play a role. Even in the recent book Almost Perfect I secretly wanted Ianto to have a relationship with someone else whilst he was in his female body, although I know Ianto isn't the kind of character to sleep around like the others.

And the above probably explains why many viewers believe that Ianto's feelings for Jack are stronger than Jack's feelings for Ianto.

[identity profile] fujiko-2708.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
But I don't want Ianto to sleep around. In fact I love that exclusivity between him and Jack.

Only, since Ianto is a hot man, I find strange that none of the girls even look at him, in a sexual way. The most they show towards Ianto is a protective/maternal feeling.

[identity profile] tigercheetah.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all for Jack and Ianto being exclusive, as long as it applies to Jack as well as Ianto. There's a tendency in both canon and in fic for Jack to have sexual tension with several different people whilst Ianto only has sexual tension with Jack - and a tiny bit with Captain John. :)

I agree that it's strange that neither Gwen, Tosh, Suzie, Diane etc showed any sexual interest in Ianto and yet Owen seemed to be sex on legs but that's the Torchwood writers for you.

[identity profile] cionaudha.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd never thought about that before, but... you're right! And yeah! How come!

I thought Emma and Ianto were sweet together for their 10 seconds of shared screen time.

[identity profile] noneinnyet.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But Emma was ultimately there to show us how human Gwen is. Blech.

[identity profile] radiant-pip.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't recall Rhys feeling threatened by Ianto in Meat, either. Just worried about Owen (rightfully so!) and Jack. You'd think somebody other than John and Jack would notice--especially if he's going to live up to "eye candy".

[identity profile] antelope-writes.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, Ianto's never shown any sexual interest in Gwen, Tosh, Suzie, or Diane. The hilariously awkward scene with Martha in Reset, though...she's already told Jack she doesn't want to know, but once Ianto's in front of her, she's all questions. Hmmmm.....

[identity profile] cionaudha.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Side rant point the second regarding the ultra-feminization of Ianto: child-bearing Jack is canonical, so WHY IS THERE IANTO MPREG??????

[identity profile] cionaudha.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my God, the cribs and baby clothes, Hub baby showers, morning sickness and swollen bellies, teary-eyed declarations of really real love, tender scenes of prenatal anxieties...

Oh god, why did I get myself started on this topic. GAH.

And yet I've never seen a fic that attempts to answer the one question that I have: what happened to Jack's child?

[identity profile] venusinchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"WHY IS THERE IANTO MPREG??????"

YES. As much as I love how crack-y Torchwood is, an mpreg!Ianto requires one or two extra dozen steps that canon pretty much tells us an mpreg!Jack doesn't. So why are there so few mpreg!Jacks and a ridiculous number of mpreg!Iantos?

"...what happened to Jack's child?"

Double YES. I assume his team truly believes that his wild stories are all boldfaced lies - and that's why his statement is ignored. But I prefer to believe that all his stories are 100% true - just another part of the crack that makes Torchwood quietly hilarious (imo). And if I'm right, I'm sure Ianto knows. It's just the fans being left out. (As is often the case in TW, for one reason or another. *rolls eyes* But fanfic was invented for gaps like that. *is especially puzzled by this apparent lack in TW fandom* )

[identity profile] cionaudha.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I definitely think that --at least with his team-- Jack is perversely honest. He'll hide things, but he won't say that A is B, and he doesn't make stuff up. With the life he's lived, why the hell would he have to?

[identity profile] travellingone.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I take it you've read that multi-part epic domestic fic of doom?

[identity profile] cionaudha.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe-- there are like twelve of them, aren't there? A just and loving Mod would make a thorough index, for the curious and statistic-minded.

I dip in to a lot of fic I'm sure I won't like, partly for the expected lulz, partly for the seedy thrill of the WTFery, and partly for the hope of finding a pearl amongst the oyster shells.
