Ah, fannish ennui, how I've missed you...

Apart from various and assorted personal happenings keeping me off the internets, there's other stuff, too. I'm not feeling the love no more. This, I'm sure, will pass eventually. (And when I say "not feeling the love," what I actually mean is it seems that people are spitting bile at each other again. Maybe I'm having perceptual difficulties.)

I've seen a few people bidding their goodbyes to Torchwood fandom recently and it saddens me in a way, but it does feel like to many people there's a chapter that's ended for good. That's not down to Ianto, specifically, I think there's a general feeling going around that this show died in July and it's not coming back. Incidentally, I really think we'd have heard about renewal by now, dudes. I am somewhat relieved that we haven't, I have no interest in a continuation of Torchwood, I really do think the story's been told and I wouldn't have watched it. As things have settled down I've come to realise that that's not simply because I find Barrowman and Myles to be two of the most tedious people on television, but also simply because I really don't think there's any story left to tell. I don't think I'm the only one.

Anyway, I think I might perform a friendslist cull in a week or two. I've connected with a lot of people through TW, but some our interests seem to be diversifying, guys. Big time. Having said that, I find a lot of your interests interesting. Unless they involve that show with the Wincest, I just don't care about that show in any way, shape or form. I'll be doing some picspams soon (LOL, I say that every week, and it never happens! That's because I'm lazy and easily distracted by life.) and in the meantime I'll just stick with The Big Bang Theory and Glee, two shows that will never fuck me in the arse in quite the way that Torchwood managed to. They make me feel pleasant and safe, and that makes a refreshing change.

I just saw Barrowman playing a banjo and shouting about pigs on CBBC. I have no desire to work out what the hell I was watching, but it was unpleasant.

Oh god, was he playing at being a farmer? Ew.

oh god, B'man, what now?

GLEE! i am loving it so much

[identity profile] bandgeek01.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to start watching Glee again. I saw it at Comic-Con and there are other shows on that I watch when it's on, lol.

But yes Glee is good.

You know I agree part of me hopes that TW is done, but a teeny tiny part of me wants to see what bull shit they can pull out of their asses for a new season.

I'm not sure if there would have been a renewal announced yet just b/c I'm sure they are waiting to capitalize on some big moments in DW to announce it.

huh

[identity profile] mellacita.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. Yeah, SPN not my thing either. I have been meaning to start on Glee.

As for TW, I wouldn't say I'm divorcing myself, but, well, the enthusiasm is a bit...well, you know.

Glad M is doing better, btw.

I've seen some of that with Torchwood, but on the other hand, I just came into the fandom less than a year ago, and I'm not finished, dammit. :D

Are you excited about the new Doctor Who series, tencrush? Or just... "eh, whatever" about it?

[identity profile] 51stcenturyfox.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...

This too shall pass! I'm actually getting excited about Eleven and Amy, and I didn't think I would.

*snickers at cuntar.*

You know, I was in London exactly a year ago today and despite watching tv, never saw the Barrowman. I think I had a lucky escape. He makes me actually cringe every time I used to see him on the television (CBC's How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria).

I agree. Do you know if RTD is working on anything right now besides the last 2 Dr. Who specials(beyond his claim to be able to write new stories in a nanosecond)?

I can't help but wondering if the BBC finally got smart and told him to STFU about TW if they want any chance of reviving it.

But like you, I'm not interested where the story would go. Benn there, done that.

Animals at Work

Barrowman - Banjo - Pigs

His kids show: either a fearless expose showing how animals are enslaved to the human race to work for their petty needs or a cute show about how cute animals are when they do what they do (being cute).

Take your pick.

If it feels right, do it

If a fandom is getting you down - either from the originating source or the fans themself - then leave with dignity, your time is done ;-)

Me, I'm in two minds about TW Series 4, there were rumours that it was commissioned but heard nowt since. I actually like Barrowman (it's the Gay mafia at work - lol) but freely admit he's not the best actor in the world. But given the way Children of Arse ended, I doubt he'll have more than a few cameos. Depends if it's a reset to S2 with diff. characters, or more of this EPIC and BRAVE "across five nights" malarkey.

I avoid the ugliness of the disintegration of the fandom as much as possible... Gwack v Janto, ad infinitum and the sheer bile/spew/vitriol that sickens me.

I stick my head in the sand and read lovely fics where all the team are together, and nothing too bad happens.

GDL seems to have gotten over TW, why can't we <-- ooo, provocative!

[identity profile] stargazer60.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Seems as if a lot of people are bidding adieu to TW. I'm gonna hang for for a bit longer... It does seem as if an announcement should have been made by now...but maybe they are 'strategically' waiting until after the final DW with 10 (like yeah, is or isn't Captain Jack in it?? **grins**)

I missed Glee last week, but I think I will watch this week...it is a show where you don't have to think a whole lot, there isn't a whole lot to read into it, just watch and enjoy.

I never got into SPN, either.

Oh, Animals at Work...what a silly show!

I fairly strongly adore Big Bang Theory. And Sheldon's mannerisms are distressingly contagious.

[identity profile] eandh99.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
The two specials are done and dusted, months ago. They're well into filming series 5. So yeah, RTD hasn't got anything on his plate unless he and Julie persuade the BBC to let them carry on with TW from California.

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that this isn't very nice, but nothing would please me more than for RTD to have to return to the UK with his proverbial tail between his legs.

""GDL seems to have gotten over TW, why can't we <-- ooo, provocative!""

I'm starting to look forward to Girl Number 9 almost as much as the last series of Torchwood, if only because I feel that Gareth is going to be used better in this 30 minute drama than he was in an entire episode of Torchwood.

And I now fangirl James Moran for saying that he'd cast Gareth in everything that he did if he could :) and for saying that Gareth will really surprise people in GN9.

[identity profile] meleth.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of want to do naughty things to both him and Raj.

I really hope GN9 works out for GDL and gets turned into an actual TV show - at this point I'm more interested in seeing the actors I liked from TW keep working (someone give Naoko a decent job, dammit!)

And well, the actors etc have had pretty much a year to get over CoE, since filming finished last November. The fans, not so much.
