Ah, fannish ennui, how I've missed you...

Apart from various and assorted personal happenings keeping me off the internets, there's other stuff, too. I'm not feeling the love no more. This, I'm sure, will pass eventually. (And when I say "not feeling the love," what I actually mean is it seems that people are spitting bile at each other again. Maybe I'm having perceptual difficulties.)

I've seen a few people bidding their goodbyes to Torchwood fandom recently and it saddens me in a way, but it does feel like to many people there's a chapter that's ended for good. That's not down to Ianto, specifically, I think there's a general feeling going around that this show died in July and it's not coming back. Incidentally, I really think we'd have heard about renewal by now, dudes. I am somewhat relieved that we haven't, I have no interest in a continuation of Torchwood, I really do think the story's been told and I wouldn't have watched it. As things have settled down I've come to realise that that's not simply because I find Barrowman and Myles to be two of the most tedious people on television, but also simply because I really don't think there's any story left to tell. I don't think I'm the only one.

Anyway, I think I might perform a friendslist cull in a week or two. I've connected with a lot of people through TW, but some our interests seem to be diversifying, guys. Big time. Having said that, I find a lot of your interests interesting. Unless they involve that show with the Wincest, I just don't care about that show in any way, shape or form. I'll be doing some picspams soon (LOL, I say that every week, and it never happens! That's because I'm lazy and easily distracted by life.) and in the meantime I'll just stick with The Big Bang Theory and Glee, two shows that will never fuck me in the arse in quite the way that Torchwood managed to. They make me feel pleasant and safe, and that makes a refreshing change.

I just saw Barrowman playing a banjo and shouting about pigs on CBBC. I have no desire to work out what the hell I was watching, but it was unpleasant.

If you like TBBT and Glee, I would check out Modern Family and Community. I usually don't like half hour comedies, but they are my two favorite shows this season.

'(someone give Naoko a decent job, dammit!) '
I second that!

'I've seen a few people bidding their goodbyes to Torchwood fandom recently and it saddens me in a way, but it does feel like to many people there's a chapter that's ended for good.'
I've seen that too. It's sad that Torchwood as a fandom is dieing, but I knew it would probably happen after CoE; RTD didn't just kill Ianto, he killed what made Torchwood Torchwood and put a Quatermass remake in it's place. Right now I'm so much more excited about the actors new projects than I am about new Torchwood.

By the way, I love The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon is awesome. One lab accident away from being a Super Villain, indeed.

'And I now fangirl James Moran for saying that he'd cast Gareth in everything that he did if he could :) and for saying that Gareth will really surprise people in GN9.'
I think I love Moran I little bit right now.

everybody's leaving? But I just got here, weeeh!

a trial separation?

Sheldon and Wolowitz. As a sandwich. And I'm the filling.

Something about Wolowitz tells me he'll be very considerate/grateful in the sack, and that persistence is kinda sexy. I am strangely attracted to strange men.

I second your emotion re: GN9.

I'm not feeling the love either. COE may have killed it for me. I really have a sense that TW fandom is shrinking, based on the size of the TW3 newsletter at least. It's not surprising at all. The extreme nihilism of COE, repeatedly killing off major and beloved characters, and no new series on the horizon makes it all rather depressing. I still have some things I want to do re: TW, but I feel my attention being drawn elsewhere (yeah, somewhere without angst - oh, hello, Merlin). If there's an S4 I will watch it though. I have to see what they do with it and I still love Jack. I totally LOL'd at your description of JB on that animal show.

Glee: I loved the pilot in the summer, but I'm having trouble getting into it, honestly. Not sure why.

[identity profile] alba17.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in a similar place. I still read a few TW fics, but I haven't explored any COE stuff at all and I feel my emotional involvement with TW is really dissipating. I'm kind of in love with Merlin now, actually. Often these days I'll start reading a TW fic and then just stop a few paragraphs in - just can't get into it. *le giant sigh*

[identity profile] dick-grayson.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, picspams! Yay, Glee! Yay, Millie! Glad things are looking up on the homefront, and I feel you on the Twood thing. I keep saying I'm going to stop following the few comms I still friend, but I still haven't gotten around to it. I hope the Christmas Who is decent.

It saddens me to leave the Torchwood fandom when I was once so enthused about it, but I think it's rather inevitable after S3. I started watching because of Jack Harkness and I think his "character development" killed whatever original fondness I had for the character and the show in which he features sotoo prominently.

I won't mind if you culled me from your flist, though I enjoy reading your thoughts on TV and life, since they're so different from my own and everyone else I know. I blame my new interest in the show with the Wincest(or, preferably, the Angel/Human) on the lack of DW. There's a need for apocalyptic musings at this time of the year....

Merlin's quite wonderful though.

can I just say, I absolutely love love love your icon?

I'm so much in love with Glee....!

I differ with you. I find Modern Family unwatchably flaily.

[personal profile] jo02 2009-10-14 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a very nice person either, I would dearly love to see RTD fail, but having said that, do we want him to go back to the UK where he can do more damage ... if there IS more damage to do?

[personal profile] jo02 2009-10-14 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
Please don't cut me out - you're the only other non-SPN-er that I know!

[identity profile] takenatwork.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You know I don't post and as TW is my only fandom, don't worry about removing me from your friendslist. Thank you for letting me in for the Torchwood.

I think I realised the other day that I had treated CoE as a 'special' and nothing much is supposed to happen in specials, which is why I'm so angry at what did happen. But it does feel a bit like the BBC, RTD & Co are also looking at CoE and thinking that wasn't supposed to happen, what do we do now, have we got a S4?

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point. We could always send him to Somalia.

He actually reminds me a bit of Bret Easton Ellis, the author of American Psycho. He too rode on a high of critical acclaim...that is until people actually read the book. It too was a nihilistic piece of crap.

He's written several books since then, but none have had much critical success. He has however, optioned most of them into totally forgettable films that again receive no critical recognition. He's making millions, but at least he's not shooting off his mouth about how great he is anymore.

So here's to RTD's new career as forgettable filmmaker, he can make all the dark, poorly plotted sci fi he wants and make lots of money as long as he doesn't crap on my fandom.

[identity profile] kuroi-hemlock.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I live in Canada, so I don't get the special torture of seeing Barrowman sing about pigs, while playing a banjo.

I've been getting into Glee as well! Seeing a show on TV that doesn't take itself seriously is a breath of fresh air to me.

Sorry if I don't post much, but I just prefer to be quiet sometimes (maybe a bit too much). I still enjoy reading your posts; but I'm kind of trying to move on from Torchwood, since I don't expect a fourth season and wouldn't really care to watch it. I've been avoiding the DW specials until Moffat takes over and I don't watch SPN.

And apparently GDL is in an upcoming episode of the Bill. (No idea what it is - cop show?)

[identity profile] radiant-pip.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm expecting a fourth season (although, what's the point now??) and I'm dreading it. They HAD a lot of story potential, but tossed it all for this "wonderful" and "brilliant" and "epic" mini-series. And apparently they don't need a fanbase to have millions tuning in. So, yeah, couldn't care less if I ever see it continued with Jack, Gwen, Rhys, and the mini Cooper-Williams with comic relief by Andy.

I heart Sheldon, too. What does Penny see in Leonard?? I mean, really... ;)

I'm trying to get into Glee. I've been recording it. It's not must-see, but it is amusing what I've seen so far.

(Just back from a week in the UK and somehow I managed to dodge the Barrowman-on-tele-24/7 bullet!)

[identity profile] as1mplegirl.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking something similar. At the end of series 2 they had the potential to go on possibly for several full length series (actors willing) but that's largely been destroyed by CoE. It's like you're going along a one way street and you miss the turning and there's no way to go back.

[identity profile] as1mplegirl.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
with Jack, Gwen, Rhys, and the mini Cooper-Williams with comic relief by Andy

Shouldn't that be Gwen, Rhys, and the mini Cooper-Williams with comic relief by Andy. Oh yeah and Jack. :)

[identity profile] kuroi-hemlock.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think there's any point in continuing. It's like trying to stay on a ship that is sinking. If it does continue, I don't understand where they story can go. Tosh and Owen are dead, Ianto is dead, Jack is who knows where (we don't even know what mental state he is in). As for Gwen she'll have her baby and move on eventually. There's no where to go anymore. They could have done something more; but RTD rather of had an nihilistic, the evil aliens are taking over the world for a billionth time movie of the week.

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of people on my flist have a lot of love for Glee, should I check it out?
