Children of Earth... again.

I still hold out a tiny bit of hope that I'm wrong in saying that thing I've been saying for the past six months, but then Amazon starts advertising this really quite spoilerrific Torchwood soundtrack and I get all down again. Ummm... it's a combination of all this "Fallen/Good Man/Sacrifice" stuff in the song titles and the fact that "The Ballad of Ianto Jones" is well over four minutes long, and the longest track on the album. And not exactly upbeat. Though, looking at it again... I still think there might be a slim chance it's not death, but voluntary retcon.

I really hope it isn't true, but if it is I will say I told you so for ever and ever.

Through my tears, obviously.

The Ballad is not very down in the bottom, so I recon it's probably some nice moments with Jack/family etc. If they were going to kill him, they would do it in the end. As for "He was a good man", I'm guessing that's for Mr. Frobisher.

As a side note, if there is a season 4, I would really like to see a breakup between those two. Somehow, compare to Tosh and Owen, those two's relationship has been developed a bit too smooth. (Indeed, I read too much fanfic.)

That's exactly what I thought. I'm still holding out hope for Ianto!

Do you really think their relationship has developed too smoothly? Too many parts of Season 2 are hard for me to watch because Jack seems like he's settling for Ianto when he really wants Gwen... that's not "smooth!"

Oh, and I have to agree with later posters: Ianto dies and I'm done with the show!

If Lisa came back to life, do you think Ianto will even hesitate for a moment before he run toward her? (Of course, assume that she's not posing any threat to the world or something, just a simple assumption, no extra sub plot.) From some prespect, I feel sorry for Jack, living lover usually don't stand a chance against the dead one. (Another reason I want to see this is b/c I kind of agree with you, Jack's been an ass for a pretty long time; but I also think Ianto is completely in control in this relationship... except the fact that Jack won't die, but that would be more of a burden on Jack's part. The thing about immortals is that their relationships usually end up with heartbreak; whereas mortals, they will just die.)

Gwen's choice would be a perfect comparison in this kind of scenario. She choose Rhys over Jack, no hesitation.

Jack's lucky only b/c he is the Hero of the show, so we won't need to venture into that part of Angst. If it's a Ianto show, there would be a mile long dead!gf v. current!lover soap coming our way.

Just for the fact that those two are developing in a pretty in sync passe. I would say that's pretty smooth... compare with Tosh and Owen. Another reason I would like to see a breakup plot is for the sole fact that Ianto is a big boy

Gwen's choice is hardly equal to Ianto's situation IMO. Ianto actually has had a romantic relationship with both of his options; whereas, Gwen did not. Easy choice for her to make in comparison.

Ianto and Jack could have many bumps in the relationship; however, it seems the RTD wants to tackle the main one...which doesn't bode well for their "future" IMO.

Oh, that Ianto/Lisa thing...even in the radio show, Ianto was ready to give up Jack and the rest of his life to go to her (and Tosh and Owen but it was Lisa's voice primarily). Gag. So, I think I see what you mean: they're both iffy about their relationship, it's not just Jack being an ass.

But that still feels "not smooth" to me, and I wish I could see some relatively smooth sailing where they were happy with each other, before the writers made them break up...or killed off Ianto!

I don't know if I agree about Gwen's choice having been straightforward. She and Jack were making eyes at each other at the wedding, even. I hated that -- I felt sorry for Rhys. He deserves better.

When I say smooth, I meant in comparison to Tosh and Owens. I like fluff, but I get bored easily and I really think Ianto deserve better than Jack, or maybe I just want to see Jack got his heart broken (again), take your pick.
BTW, if we do a side by side comparison of Lisa/Ianto/Jack and Doctor/Jack/Ianto, I feel like those two got together by some pretty good coincidence a.k.a. they are both sort of each other's second best or bonus point. In Lisa/Ianto/Jack scenario, Lisa's dead, so there is no more conflict (no way he's gonna love another "I would like to settle down with" kind of woman as much as he loved Lisa; even if he can, the dead girlfriend would always be the shadow in the relationship; lucky for Jack, he couldn't care less); in Doctor/Jack/Ianto scenario, Team+Ianto+Purpose out weights the Time Traveling Dick, so he came back; that's some pretty heavy leverage there.

If they actually killed off Ianto... well, if I get to see Jack having a complete break down, I will at least have a temporary rush of satisfactory. Then... yes, I will be pissed. I really like Ianto, and especially found of the idea of aged-boss!Ianto; I just don't like him in a steady relationship (that's boring, should be for old people), and yes, the one he's having right now is very steady, as steady as a turtle with some really hot sex which we will never see on screen.

As for Gwen... I don't think she will give up Rhys, even if she has a go with Jack. She does lots of foolish/blind things in short run, but in a long run she's still a pretty down to the earth kind of woman.
Love is not always fire works; it isn't always exclusive either. I take the wedding thing as their final resolution toward this attraction between them for whatever reason, which in a way we really should give those two some credit; after all, they resisted that temptation. I usually respect that more than those who were not attempted to begin with. That been said, Rhys does deserve better, but that better just might not be as exciting as Gwen... In the end, we can't have it all, but we can always be attempted... when the right thing come along.

Ok, I'm done babbling. As a final thought, they said each characters would need to make some sacrifice in the end... Ianto really doesn't have much to sacrifice except... Jack and his life... unless his family hating him for certain choice he would make can be count as some sort of sacrifice... otherwise, either I get the break up I want or ... damn, they are going to kill him aren't they...

Yep, I think they're going to kill Ianto. I hope not, but signs point that way. About seeing Jack having a complete breakdown: I've wondered whether Ianto's death would break Jack enough that he'd leave Cardiff to travel with the Doctor... The thought flashed back into my head when I saw the song, "I can run forever." I don't actually think it'll happen, though.

Thank you for this conversation. I've enjoyed it immensely!

I enjoyed it too. It was fun.
