Finally sporked a Torchwood fic I'd been meaning to spork for about two months now over on badfic_quotes. Again, this is why I normally don't read fic. I just can't take the badfic, no matter how good the goodfic may be.
No, no, you don't get it, the M&Ms and doritos and video games were part of his WELSH childhood. Obviously. At least she could have gone to the trouble of making it Maltesers and Monster Munch or something.
Oh it's always scary when the OCs of fandom are 'SUPAH BEST FRIEND' or former lovers or something that makes them irreplaceable to the cast.
Sue!fic, how you make my headache come back with an impressive strength *sighs* Cause you're right, it's the quantity (let alone quality) of fic like this one out there that DOES deter people from reading the stories that really ARE good and.. that's really too bad.
That is the reason I only read Torchwood fic that's by authors on my f-list or that's recced at torchwood_house. I can't remember the last time I read something off of torch_wood.
And as I observed over on Badfic, she's changed the title to The Adventures of Ianto and Erin, like putting his name first makes it all okay. IT DOESN'T MAKE IT OKAY!!!
These things should be kept STRICTLY to yourself...no writing it down, no posting it on the internet, no inflicting it upon the rest of us...especially not with the typos that invariably come with it, making it impossible to tell which annoys us more: the author, or their Mary-Sue...!
This is a bit late, but when I have never seen a fandom with as much badfic as Torchwood. (Well, badfic that's not on fanfiction.net) Except maybe Harry Potter. I've joined fandoms lots of times, and I have never had such a hard time finding quality fic. It's mind-boggling to me.
I think part of it is - and this is also part of why I started reading slash - people who have to actually plot out ways to bring their characters together are usually the ones who write fic worth reading. If a pairing is already there, there's no work involved in writing about them. (That's not always the case - I love gen fic in fandoms - but most of the time it is!)
