This is why he's so bloody hard to work out. Each time he meets Jack, he tries a different approach: confidently mysterious, openly needy, snarky professionalism. I'd say each one is real in turn, but where the overlap is and which one is closest to Ianto if he stopped constantly editing himself is a very difficult question.
