Lol.

I just saw a trailer for Miracle Day, whatever episode we're on now, I neither know nor care. So, I take it Gwen's doing another one of those talking heads "If anyone finds this video this is what we did and we're SO SORRY... " videos AGAIN? Why didn't Rusty just remake CoE to be longer and have less redeeming charm? Oh, no, wait, he did.

Franklin and Bash, tonight, guys. Not even a trailer for Torchwood can dampen my spirits on Franklin and Bash night.

The man really is a one trick pony.

That's an insult to ponies.

I saw the same advert and was taken aback at how exactly like CoE that shot was. She was saying "sorry Dad", that was the only difference!

Yep, it's the episode you've seen, episode 5 where RTD rips off Schindler's list, that one.

[identity profile] lawsontl.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, haven't seen that one yet. Have more or less just been sitting back and waiting for the episode so I can MST3K it. Or be shocked if it actually did something well.

They've been using a whole lot of webchats, though. And Gwen's got the contact lens camera thingy. Trying to figure out how she got those back since, last we saw them, Bridget Spears had them recording the PM in CoE5.

They're a very handy lazy plotting option, though.

[identity profile] radiant-pip.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently she was on quite friendly terms with the government until she decided they needed to HIDE! Gwen got back Jack's vortex manipulator and the contact lenses. Yes, so much for Torchwood being destroyed so that they couldn't depend on their toys anymore! What's that? They're still using Torchwood servers, too? Convenient....er, interesting...

[identity profile] lawsontl.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, now, it's just the Torchwood SOFTWARE they say they're using, so Gwen is lying when she says the lenses are the only Torchwood tech she kept. Unless Jack had a bunch of media jammed in that greatcoat when he beamed up to the cold fusion cruiser.

So, in that case, it must be the mainframe.

I want that mainframe and the whatever room it lives in. It can survive a bomb with a 2 KM blast radius. Dude, that's some SERIOUS hardware. In MD, they're taking down entire top-of-the-line server arrays with an ickle blow torch (cleverly deceiving the sysadmins who will apparently believe that only ONE server in an entire farm will have fire damage). But not only has the mainframe survived, it has stayed running all this time with no one tending it. Apparently, the worlds most kick ass NOS. It must be a 51st century version of Linux.

[identity profile] radiant-pip.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I assumed they were using the same server Ianto hacked into in COE. I don't recall if Ianto said that it was located anywhere specifically and I didn't pay attention enough to anything said in MD (*yawn*). Still, are they really on their own or do they conveniently have just enough to make the plot work...again, for the second season running? Oh, this is such a fresh series...

[identity profile] lawsontl.livejournal.com 2011-08-11 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
OK, no problem... assuming this wasn't the mainframe inside the Hub, where was it? And why didn't they go THERE to work instead of breaking into a deserted warehouse and using stolen equipment?

Because having a proper hot site would have ruined the theme of stripping them of everything, and they might have possibly had a chance to come up with a decent plan instead of wasting a day setting up. Unfortunately, it also stripped Toshiko's dignity. No geek, NO geek of her caliber, would have left the team adrift like that. Then again, they more or less did that in CoE by having the baddies claim they'd hacked TW's servers already. More likely, Tosh had a honeypot waiting and they just thought they got something. :)

[identity profile] radiant-pip.livejournal.com 2011-08-11 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they dissed Tosh by having the government hack into Torchwood's computers years ago. Dekker seemed unimpressed with what they had found. And yet, the doctor still had the assignment to infiltrate Torchwood, which he was so desperate to do that he was willing to kill innocent civilians? That makes about as much sense as blowing up the only organization that could possibly help in an alien crisis...

[identity profile] stlscape.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
(cleverly deceiving the sysadmins who will apparently believe that only ONE server in an entire farm will have fire damage)

Yes, because we all know sysadmins are dumb as bricks, and each rack has it's own sysadmin who doesn't speak to any other sysadmins in the building. ::eyeroll::

But not only has the mainframe survived, it has stayed running all this time with no one tending it.

And apparently no one's tried to do anything with it since they tried to blow it up. Like you said, SERIOUS hardware. Also, I'd love to know where they were storing the TW software - in Jack's vortex manipulator potassium monitor? Gwen's contacts?

Apparently she was on quite friendly terms with the government until she decided they needed to HIDE!

Well, apparently she didn't really mean they needed to HIDE, based on her actions in the first ep (no disguise attempt at all, going to visit Daddy in Cardiff hospital, visiting with Andy in a nurses' station while using the hospital's computer network, etc.) and she's behaving like the same old Gwen in the fifth ep (she *did* have a passport in an assumed name, but proceeded to be all shouty-make-a-scene-Gwen later, still without disguise.)

[identity profile] radiant-pip.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they haven't been very consistent with the whole hiding thing post-COE and during-MD. It seems only there to cause fake drama when needed. (Oh, that sounds cynical.) Poor Esther gets in trouble for almost bringing them all down over wanting to see her family, but Rex and Gwen (and I'm sure Jack if he had any--ouch!) can go do whatever they want--even if it involves a plane ride! Plus, Jack and Rex can take time out for some sexy fun times when everyone is after them. Bad guys can't work 24/7 after all!

[identity profile] lawsontl.livejournal.com 2011-08-11 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because we all know sysadmins are dumb as bricks, and each rack has it's own sysadmin who doesn't speak to any other sysadmins in the building. ::eyeroll::

Oh, wait, PhiCorp only had ONE sysadmin, that Nicholas DeadParrotkin guy. So now no one will know of their evil plan! *muahaha*

The Gwen video thing was actually a website promo for MD and isn't part of the actual series as far as I know. Jack and a few other characters also did one for the official website before MD started.

Apparently episode 6 mostly focuses on Rex, Esther and Gwen in the death camps and doesn't have much in the way of Jack until the end, so he's definately being underused this year and isn't part of the show in the way that he used to be. Episode 7 focuses on Jack but that's regarding his past - again.

Why are Torchwood nearly always reponsible for the world's problems?

[identity profile] radiant-pip.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but episode 7 on might be heavy Jack, so I think it's premature to say whether Jack's taking a back seat or not for the whole thing. I thought his past story was supposed to shed all sorts of light on the present story, putting Jack basically in the center of it all.

Torchwood? Apparently, it's really just Jack. We'll see...

And is there really a "Torchwood" at this point? Is the Crown cutting their paychecks again? "We're Torchwood." Whatever, Rex.

[identity profile] beesandbrews.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Episode 7 is the one where you find out that IT'S ALL JACK'S FAULT. After that there will be some blather and then he will have a DRAMATIC LAST SECOND MARTYR'S END (?) in episode 10 to set the world to rights again.

Episode 8 and 9 will be reaction shots.

(No, I don't actually know this for a fact, I'm just going off of past performance.)

The video is part of the trailer for episode 5, I can't imagine how it can't be in the episode as it's part of the BBC trailer, which then says it's on Thursday, it features various scenes from the ep, including this video.

Jack is not only diminished as a character, but I just keep feeling that JB wants to go and have a little rest, he seems barely there. It really is pointing to his demise. I keep wondering how long before JBs next book detailing how unhappy he was with the whole thing.

Wow episode 6 sounds like a barrel of laughs, the end of ep 5 seems to have upset so many people that I imagine fewer will tune in, but I wonder how many will be able to stick it out through that one.

It also aired on Starz as part of the pre-season launch.

Ugh. I really hope that doesn't mean the rest of that footage is used at some point in MD. It was all so melodramatic and over-acted IMO.

Someone needs to take the camera away from Gwen...seriously.

[identity profile] tigercheetah.livejournal.com 2011-08-11 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Jack, Oswald and Jilly all did these video things on the official wesbite, which is the main reason why I don't think they'll be featured in the actual show.

What I CAN see happening is Gwen's father dying by the end of the series, perhaps as a result of the 'miracle' being defeated. That's what Gwen could be referencing in that trailer.

I could still be wrong though.. :)

[identity profile] coldwater1010.livejournal.com 2011-08-11 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It was part of the trailer for episode six so I have to assume it's part of the episode otherwise why include it.

[identity profile] coldwater1010.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen episode five so I don't know, but I did see a trailer for episode six and it was in that.Since it was in the trailer I'm guessing it'll be in that episode especially since she was saying something about telling the whole world about what's going on.

[identity profile] radiant-pip.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've heard that one before...but it looks like they might actually do it this time. We'll see...

People are still watching Torchwood?

Not that I'm aware of. We're just discussing that American spinoff.

viewership is down nearly 40% since the first episode so no, people aren't
